What are the top five cities you want to visit?

Anything and everything (outside of the stuff on the above forums) can be discussed here.

What are the top five cities you want to visit?

Post by RoastedTwinkies » Sat Jul 03, 2004 12:59 pm

If the money you had was unlimited, and during a vacation you were limited to visit five cities anywhere in the world, what would they be and why?

Here goes...

1. Tokyo, Japan- Because although the city is extremely crouded, I think it's a beautiful city. I've always wanted to go on a hanami (cherry blossom viewing trip). Another thing I'd love to see are the huge department stores. Department stores in Japan are huge and you could spend the entire day there. And they've got everything you could think of. I would head straight to the floor with all the books and manga ^_^

2. London, England- I've always thought this city was so beautiful and elegant. I've always wanted to use one of their red phone booths and go on a city tour on one of their red double decker buses. I really want to see Big Ben with my own eyes ^_^

3. Paris, France- I wanted to visit this place because I think it's elegant and beautiful like London. Also, because it goes back to my roots. I'm French, and I can't speak French that well anymore, but I'm proud to be French!

4. New York City, USA- This is the capital of the world! I'm not really sure why, but I just think it's a great city. Mainly because the city has a lot of history, and because it's a major center. That's where all the big names are like Bill Gates and Donald Trump. Also, I think it's safe to say that every major band has preformed there at least once.

5. Victoria, Canada- I wanted to go there because of the scenary- the mountains and ocean. It's beautiful. Also, since I'm limited to the one city in Japan, it's the next best thing. I have friends who have been there and they tell me that there's a ton of Japanese shops there.

Now, it's your turn!

Hmm...

1)Tokyo, Well, I'm going there in August for two days, so I might as well put it down ~_^

2)London, I like British culture (and British guys). It'd just be nice to go see the different places there.

3)Las Vega, Because it's bright and shiny and there are crossdressers everywhere ^____^. That and the Liberace museum is there and it has the world's largest rhynstone and a rhynstone covered piano.

4) Athens, because I've always wanted to go to Greece to see the ancient sites there (statues, colosuems).

5)Montreal, Canada. Even though I do NOT like Quebec, I'd like to see the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival there.

0___o I used to go to Victoria a lot when I was young and hated it because it was so boring. I don't remember anything nice there, but it might just have been the place where I was staying, so I'm not completely sure.

1.) London, England - this will be a repeat visit for me, but the visit I had was so rushed that I'd like to pay it a second visit to do it justice.

2.) Paris, France - again, repeat visit, but I'd like to go with David. :)

3.) Dublin, Ireland - I'm part Irish on my mother's side, and I've always wanted to visit Ireland.

4.) Sydney, Australia - because I've always wanted to see the Opera House up close.

5.) Venice, Italy - one of my silly dreams is to go on a gondola ride there. :)

Looks like a fun topic. ^_^

Let's see, these are in no particular order:

1. Vancouver, British Colombia Ever since I saw a video package of it about ten years ago, I've wanted to go there. It's been called North America's most beautiful city, and just from the pictures I agree.

2. Sydney, Australia, just to see the Opera House, IMO the most beautiful piece of architecture ever. And maybe to arrange a trip to Ayers's Rock, which is a pretty cool mystical site on the order of Stonehenge.

3: Osaka, Japan. Just to be different, I'll pick a different Japanese city. ^_^ Really, if I ever go, I'd like the "Lost in Translation" tour, but I'd also like to see some of the countryside more.

4: Las Vegas, Nevada. I've actually been there twice, but it's so much fun that I want to go more often. I don't gamble, so that's not it, it's just a wonderful city. The best way to describe it is that it's almost a joke on the world. A whole economy built on luxury, with almost nothing of necessity. That's cool.

5: Boston, Mass./Chicago, Ill Yes, I'm cheating here and putting in two cities, but for the same reason. Before they close them, I want to see a baseball game in both Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. I'm a big baseball fan and it'll be something to get that old-world, 1920s feel. For Fenway in particular, I want to sit on the first base side where James Earl Jones and Kevin Costner sat in Field of Dreams.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

ERrrrrh. I HATE LONDON. HATE HATE HATE LONDON. I'm kinda like Homer Simpson in that one episode where they go to New York. That's me. With the trash on my face and everything. For more info please go see my Finland thread ^^;;;;;

And *pose* *lives in Las Vegas* It truly is a wonderful city. I love it. My house has a great view of the whole valley.....and yeah, go back to the finland thread and you can see pictures *POSES AGAIN* I love living here.

Anyways, so i don't get yelled at by Anthy (yes i know i'm an admin, but this is her area....*wears an I love Anthy t-shirt*) I'll post my top 5. These are in no particular order (just cause I haven't really thought about where i'd like to go).

1 - New York, NY. I've always wanted to see Manhatten. On the way to Finland, I stopped at Newark airport, and saw Manhatten from there. It was really cool. I wish i had a chance to go in the city.

2 - Sydney, Australia. AUSTRALIA! How cool is that? Although, on the other hand, I though England would be pretty cool too, but boy was I mistaken *glare*

3 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands - I stopped there briefly on the way to Finland, and it was such a pretty city. I wish i had more of a chance to see it (AND NO, NOT BECAUSE OF PROSTITUTION AND MARIJUANA)

4 - Meh, all of New Jersey and Delaware. In fact, that whole area. The only reason I say this is cause 2 of my closest friends are from there, so I'd like to see it one of these days. Along with DC.

5 - Athens. Greece, what else can you say? (although I hear organized crime is ridiculous there).

Other cities (or places) i'd like to visit are the south of France, Italy (rome venice etc), Sweden.

Notice I didn't include Japan. I find Japan to be too crowded for my taste. Maybe if there was a backwater town that was isolated and small I'd go, but do those even exist on that tiny little island? Maybe i'd visit okinawa. Or the one that's on a tiny island WAY south. I think that's Okinawa.

Also, I didn't list Finland cause I've been there and i plan to go many more times (that's my #1 foreign place I'd like to be).

1. La Romana, Dominican Republic. The city is very beautiful and very historic. It also has the most beautiful beaches in the world.

2. Paris, France. I've always wanted to go to France ever since I started taking French class way back in 5th grade. They make it look so nice and pretty in class.

3. Miami, Florida. It's so beautiful down there. The beaches are clear, the ladies are hot...ah, Miami!

4.Tokyo, Japan. I would like to visit the country where the best video games and anime.

5. New York City. It's where I'm from. I love to go see it whenever I can. Too bad my parents are so lazy that they end up going there only once or twice a year. I'm so close yet so far away...

Other cities: Rome, LA, Rio de Janeiro, and Orlando.

Yes it is ^_^ I live an hour away from there and it is one of the most beautiful places ever (if you ever go, tell me and I'll give the address of a sweet ass comic book store. It looks small on the outside, but has three levels and his pretty cheap. Plus, a whole shelf of manga.)

1. Singapore. Being a city-state thing, the whole city is the country. It's just a place I've always wanted to visit since I can remember.

2. New Orleans, Louisiana. It's supposedly a gorgeous city.

3. Paris. Just to say I went.

4. London. Umm. The Spice Girls.

5. New Zealand. I can't name a single city, but I've heard the countryside is lovely.

Amen to that.

Here's my list:

1: New York City. But I don't want to just visit. I want to live there. It's the only city in the entire United States that I would love to live in.

2: London. I adore the United Kingdom, and I would love to visit London. I don't want to live there, but I would kill to visit it for a few weeks or so.

3: Paris. Because of it's beauty? No. Because I love the French language? No (though I do love the language, that's just not the reason). Then why? Simple. The Champs-Elysees. It has the absolute best shopping in the entire world. However, I will never have enough money to visit Paris, because, as Champs-Elysees is the best shopping in the world, it's also the most expensive. ;_____;

4: New Orleans. But only during Mardi Gras. The entire festival just seems like so much fun, even if it is out of control. Plus, I could make fun of all the annoying teenie-goths who believe themselves vampires.

5: Kokomo, Illinois/Indiana (can't remember which). So I can spend time with teh Anthy and go help her beat up all the st00pids there.

Yay for traveling! <3

1) Kyoto, Japan - I really want to see the traditional aspects and history of it. Also, every picture i've seen of Kyoto has been absolutely breathtaking, and I'd lvoe to see that beauty up close.

2) Yokosuka, Japan - I was born there, and I"d like to see it someday before I die.

3) Copenhagen, Denmark - I used to live there, but I was in kindergarten and far too young to appreciate its beauty and history. I would love to go back and relive the memories.

4) London, England - sorry, Bob. I've always been fascinated with going there.

5) Sidney, Australia - I've also got a bit of fascination with this, too. The opera house, and just the fact of seeing Australia.

3. Vancouver, British Columbia-Absolutely beautiful! I have rented videos and books about the city and it looks wonderful. I would love to actually move there.
4. New York, New York-New York is my birth state but I have never been to the actual city. It looks stunning.

Several people have mentioned New York City, and Parakiss has the right idea--you have to live there to get the full experience. I did so for four years, and will tell you that the well-known tourist attractions are the least significant parts of the city. The real New York is in out-of-the-way places that you have to be shown by people who know them well, and to go there you must have the New York personality, an odd mix of cynicism and optimism--the credo of the New Yorker is that bad things will always happen, but if you're a New Yorker, you can handle anything. In New York, you can get just about anything the human race has created, but everything carries its price; nothing is given free.

I don't really care for cities too much, they're too big and city-ish. But there are a few I could list that I would like to visit.

1.) Giza, Egypt - I have to visit Egypt someday. What better place to start than Giza? Not to far from the delta region, and not too far from the step pyramid of Djoser, which IMHO, is much more interesting than Khufu's pyramid.

2.) Kyoto, Japan - Like Tiff mentioned; great history, splendid beauty. And, it's also less intimidating than Tokyo. *p33rz Tokyo*

3.) Rome, Italy - *imitates Homer Simpson, badly* Mmm. Italy.

4.) Sydney, Australia - It has nothing to do with the Opera House, I just really want to go to Australia.

5.) Dublin, Ireland - Oddly enough, for the exact same reasons Ni-ban Neko mentioned. I'm part Irish on my mothers side and I would love to see the beauty of Ireland with my own eyes.
NameGoesHere - Now made with 100% more ingredients.

Here goes my big nothing.

1:Tokyo, Japan. I always wanted to visit that city. :)

2:Kyoto, Japan. Same reason.

3:Hiroshima, Japan. I want to experience Japanese culture firsthand.

4: London, England. Just to meet the Royal Family.

5: Los Angeles, California. To see the Pacific Ocean and to meet other relatives in my family.

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Sydney, Australia: believe it or not, I've never been there for more than a few hours, which were all spent in an airport.

Perth, Australia: Was born there, would like to see it before I die.

London, England: I have some friends in the vicinity.

Tokyo, Japan: Name me one otaku who wouldn't want to go there...

Stockholm, Sweden: Ancestral country. I'd probably go all over it, actually, as I also want to check out Malmö, Åmål and Trolhättan. I might also get out Fucking Åmål while I'm at it...

I don't want to go to Tokyo. In fact, that is one of two cities that I never want to be near (San Francisco being the other). Being in a gigantic city that is as over-crowded as Tokyo, the obvious language barrier, the lack of desire to be just another gaijin.... I have no desire to be there.

I've been listed. Kickass. <3

Have fun on the trip, though. I can't believe you're only bringing $2000. I need at least $5000 to go shopping here.

I totally agree. Tokyo is not a place for me. I'd rather go to someplace less crowded. Cities around 500,000 - 2 million are about the perfect size for me, and Tokyo greatly exceeds that....
