One point that I thought was important was the "If circuses are banned, what's next ?" . I think this implies something. It doesn't mean (as you all said) that every single circus has to be banned. Only the ones who don't treat the animals well. But, in that sort of events, if one "part" is bad, all other ones seem bad. You know, it's like when you get bitten by a dog as a kid, and when you grow up, you're scared of all dogs cause they might bite you.

So what might happen is that not only the bad circuses would be banned, but all of them would be. Then, any animal-related entertainment will be banned. Or any animal-related event. It could go way too far.
Actually, those are two entirely different things. When you are traumatized by something like a dog bite, you psychologically become afraid of all dogs becuase you associate the dog with pain. That's not the same as saying, "hey, some circuses treat animals bad..SO ALL CIRCUSES MUST BE BAD." That an opinion based off of a lack of research, and has nothing to do with association, like the former example does.

Yes, it COULD go too far. But it's HIGHLY unlikely, for several reasons. One is simply that nobody takes PETA seriously, as proven by this thread. Another is that people simply don't take heed of this sort of thing going on in circuses and zoos, again proven here by the lack of knowledge a lot of the posters have about it.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Thank you for making this point, Tiff. You must know more about that than I do anyway since I'm an outsider ;)

And my comparison could fit in, maybe, if I changed it. Just maybe o.O ... what if, as having been bitten by a dog, you go to a circus one day and see (by "chance" o.O) an animal being beaten... you'd be traumatized and such, and you might not want to go back to a circus ever...

But even if I say this, you're right anyway. It's sad that there's someone (PETA) caring about the animals, but does it so stupidly that noe one cares about PETA...

Banning all circuses for the moronic and depraved actions of some would be ridiculous. It would be akin to banning fire because some people like to burn down houses. One of these things is quite a bit more extreme than the other, granted, but the basic concept is there.

If this particular circus is suspected of abuse, then they should be investigated. Should any proof of misconduct be discovered, then I would be in full support of intelligent protests against them. But what PETA is doing is not what I would call intelligent. Not by a long-shot.

It's poorly thought out actions like these that make it hard for people to legitimately stand up for the welfare of animals without being immediately labeled an extremist. And for that, I think that the actions of PETA (and other similar groups) are hurting more than they are helping.

In other words, it would be a little late to call in an airstrike against PETA. Too bad. :( :!:

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Parallax, please calm down a little bit. Most of your posts involve wishing violence done to something, or callling something that weird "p" word you use. Besides, it's really rather hypocritical to wish extremist violence on an organization that is not supported due to it's extremist actions.

Sorry, I was joking. I wouldn't actually want to hurt them, just use a lot of tomatoes in a mock "Bombing run" on them. I should have specified what I wanted to say in my last post.

No more violence from you, Parallax. That's a waste of perfectly good tomatoes.

I know this thread is four years old but PETA strikes again. I recently read an article that Alec Baldwin (also a PETA supporter) is coming to Chicago to promote a documentary that talks about the horse drawn carriage rides in cities and how the horses are abused.

As for my view on PETA, I understand that they want animals to be treated fairly but like mentioned before I don't agree with their tactics.
