A good majority of the world's population believes in some form of religion, so obviously it's not "so repulsive" as you make it out to be...besides, not all religious people are as closed-minded and literal as he is.
I was refering to those who aren't religious: particurlarly those who despise religion due to the fact that their only exposure to it are through people such as that Chick person. I'm a Christian myself.

I just avoid Chick's comics in general. He has the right to believe whatever he wants to believe, and the right to express that however he chooses. I don't agree with him, so I don't read his stuff. It doesn't really bother me. As long as someone doesn't personally come up to me and tell me I'm gonna burn in Hell forever (which I always think funny, since a few people told me that I was gay because Satan had sex with me, and that I was going to Hell forever. I smiled and said "Ooh! Sex for eternity!"), they can write/draw whatever they want. It's when it's actually forced into my face that I get offended.

...I read them and laugh. Hysterically. I find them to be a source of deep amusement. I don't agree with him, and I think he's completely ignorant about most of his subjects...but as Parakisu said, it's his right to say these things. They don't bother me, either.

After reading that, can anyone Christian answer my question? Aren't some people born gay? What if a gay (who is not married or in love with another gay) believed in Jesus? Will he be saved?

I don't consider myself Christian, since I'm still figuring out my religion, but whether or not people are born gay is YOUR belief. No Christian can give you that answer. If you believe people are born gay, then so be it. If you believe homosexuality is something that comes through happenings around them and in their environment, then fine. It's up to YOU, not the bible or Jesus.

That's a huge debate, and one most scientists and Christian denominations don't agree on.

I personally think a gay person that believes in God will be "saved",though.

Sakuya: It really depends on which Christians you ask. I think a good number of them believe that, while BEING gay isn't a sin, homosexual acts are, and so things like gay marriage and the like are frowned upon big-time by the Church. In Catholicism, the Pope has, himself, said that while gay people should not be persecuted, they should not get the same rights straight people get when it comes to marriage and so forth. So yes, if a gay man was not in love or married with another man, he would, according to them, be saved.

NOTE: Let's not start a religious war here, or begin flaming the beliefs of some Christians. This is a topic to discuss Jack Chick and his latest little pamphlets, nothing more. A more detailed discussion about homosexuality can be found here.

Okay, I've actually read Chick's work. The first two I read were cute and nice (I almost shed a tear at the Somebody Loves Me tract), but the rest of them were pretty much pure bashing, and drastically exaggerated everything that was portrayed as wrong in order to attempt to make their points make sense. That lil' Susy girl was annoying to say the least, and the article explaining why he wrote the tract was sickening. He doesn't really bother me though- I've gotten used to reading absolutist material such as his.

whitewolf05: If you bothered to read the very first post of this thread, you would know who he is, what he does, and why he is somewhat hated by the majority of people who read his propaganda. You really need to do some more research on your own before blurting out questions that have obvious answers.

whitewolf05, read the thread before posting!

OK...last time I started a thread about Jack Chick, I did it debunking a tract on Witchcraft. I figure that since there are so many myths surrounding the religion (no, witches do NOT wear black pointed hats).

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5012/5012_01.asp

In the story, Bob Williams (the last major character before Susy Barnes) casts the Devil out of a witch with the help of the story of King Saul.

FIrst off, the Fangwatch notice: he's on the shelf in the second panel, posing as a stuffed toy.

--Now Sam has good reason to fear Bob: one minute with him and I'd be heading for the door too. Plus, he has one heck of a bank account and he doesn't even use it that much.

--Holly tries to take him down with a love spell. If Holly were a real witch, she'd know how futile such an endeavour would be. Besides, there are no degrees of power to spells--they're simply prayers.

--Holly's "Witches Rule" speech is hateful and most definitely not representative of Wiccans in general. Spells are done to help people, not take them down. THe images in the background are ridiculous and pointless.

--What did Sam expect? Bells and whistles? A crash of thunder? Were Holly's hands supposed to glow? Because if nothing was happening, she wouldn't be able to tell. Besides, as I said before, spells are just prayers with a bit more focus (and a tad more preparation).

--On that note, if Wiccans have to do it like that, they're not in pentagrams that have been painted on the floor--it's usually just a circle of salt with some candles and things marking the compass points.

--"Praise God! I never want to sin again!" Then I take it she'll be casting the first stone at a stoning? It's impossible to not sin. By the way, that was a terrible pun, Holly.

--OK, it's official. Bob is God incarnate. So...what does that make Susy? Anyway, Bob should not have heard Holly's line here. It's called a contrived plot device.

--Bob, the story is nice, but that doesn't stop it from being completely useless. Witches do not resurrect the dead.

--I love the "@!!!**" that Chick inserts in place of a swear word. I recently noticed another chick tract that had it replacing "My God". how do I know that? They @!!!** said so! Anyway, Holly has some MAJOR issues if she hates everything other than Witchcraft. Usually Witches aren't um...Grimoire thumpers. Especially since Grimoires are just collections of spells.

--Uh-oh. I hate to say this, but Bob is actually half-right about the curse. It will harm him, but it will also go back to Holly with a vengeance.

--Obviously, neither Bob nor Sam have seen The Craft. Any abused power is revoked in that movie. It would be much the same in real life.

--And once again, the old "Harry Potter is evil" argument (that has probably been applied to any fantasy work since the dawn of time) is used. Not only that, but an unresearched video from a group that likes Bill Schnoebelen is used as reference. Their work has been debunked too.

--I like the two figures in the smoke. Nice touch, Jack--but who is the second one?

--How can the KJV be the only Bible Satan hasn't messed with? How would people be able to filter out all inherent evil from the previous versions?

--And finally, God points to Hell. I should note that God's directions are screwed up here--He has been known to point to Hell with the other hand too. Not only that, but He's pointing with His right hand, which would point to Christ.

New tract! New tract!

The Peace Maker

It's an unusually light tract with almost none of Chick's hatemongering--indeed, the appropriate term would be more "glurgy". Think of it as being force-fed a lot of M&Ms--it may taste sweet, but it's not too pleasant an experience and you'll want to vomit afterwards. And it's knocking Susy from the top spot as Chick's recurring character. Is that a good thing?

Let's watch what we say here. someo f the comments in this thread (and the christian movie review thread) are becoming borderline Christian-bashing. Please watch what you say, as many of our members are christian.

Actually, Parakisu, Chick doesn't offend me. At least, he's nowhere near as bad as Phelps (and I don't visit the WBC site).

And guys, as others have said, let's keep the bashing to Chick and his particular brand of Christianity. It can be done.

There should be no bashing of ANYONE. Having a negative opinion is one thing, but don't outwardly bash ANY kind of Christianity or any particular person.

I'm confused now. ^_^ What exactly constitutes bashing? Can someone point out an example? Because I too have further negative feelings I'd like to talk about, but I don't want to upset anyone here.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."
