Bomb threat at my school today.

Post by Artemis » Mon May 03, 2004 11:16 pm

During school, someone found a note that said that there were three bombs planted in the school...we all had to evacuate...it was pretty damn scary. We were stuck out in the track field for the entire rest of the day. I still don't know if it was actually true. It also happened to me once in third grade.

Has it ever happened at your school? :?:

During my senior year, someone called in a bomb threat, and we had to evacuate outside for about two hours...it was insane. I wasn't scared moreso than annoyed, becuase of course it was false, and it was so stupid of somenoe to do that.

About two days later, we had another one, but the evacuation only lasted about half an hour.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Last year my school had one of those regular fire drills. The next day during lunch it went off again and no one thought anything of it. Suddenly my vice principal gets on the PA and yells "THIS ISN'T A DRILL! EVERYONE EVACUATE!!" It was a false alarm and we were back in the school in ten minutes. Then when lunch ended we went to our last block and it rang again and every ignored it, and again the Vice Principal came on and told us it was another false alarm

-_-; people can be so stupid (however it did make the day interesting :D )

I guess no one here heard of the CNY Bomb Threats of 1998. A few years prior to that mini-era, we had kinda had one in the middle school. I say kinda as the whole thing started with a "suspicious package" which had the administration worried, when it was really nothing at all, I forgot what it was, and am suprised I remember that much.

But yeah, 1998, Freshman year of high school (though that grade level was in the junior high building) was just ridiclous. Bomb threat was called in for a certain area, so the initial fears and evacuations outside as the building were checked and stuff were rampant, and the school let people go home if they really felt unsafe. Then it happened again a few days later, and again not long after, we were averaging 3 - 4 a week for nearly a month actually. It was almost a "cool" thing to do in the area to phone them in with how common they were. Then people started getting caught with penalties for distruptions, and they eventually died down to nothing. Which was good since there was a huge issue on if something like that were to happen during the state tests, but since they stopped before the regents (NYS final exams), it wasn't an issue thankfully.

That's the two reasons right there why idiots do stupid things. They think "Hey, let's scare people to death and make them think they're going to die and then laugh at them. Then we can go home and miss a few days of school". There are idiots at my school who try crazy shite just to "be cool" and skip class. I wouldn't be suprised if sooner or later someone called in with a bomb threat.

I hope that the people who were caught were expelled. Their's nothing funny about making people think they're going to die.

I remember back in 6th grade at my middle school, I was in the middle of english class with the mean teacher -_-. All of a sudden, all the teachers are called, and we start to get shoved out of the classrooms. It is very hard to go down stairs with mean people shoving me to fall.

We went over to the high school, which is right next door (and it was 110 degrees outside), and we sat in the auditorium for about 4 hours O_o They told us NOTHING. And my brother was a Junior and he could have come in to get me, but security was a bitcha ><

Eventually, it turned out that some 8th grader had a tennis ball and it was smoking badly and either they thought it was a bomb, or they thought it was a fire. Either way, it was odd to see men in suits and briefcasses with those sunglasses and the weird FBI stuff.

Kid got expelled. Ruined hs life, idiot -_-

Someone called in a bomb threat to my high school about a week or so after the Columbine shootings. I was at lunch at the time, and they pulled us all out of the cafeteria to a parking lot a short distance away. It was a good two hours before they let anyone back in. They were totally serious about it all, given what had happened the week before.

In my sophmore year of high school, someone called in a bomb threat while I was in orchestra class. An announcement was made stating that we were having a "special fire drill" and that everyone was to meet outside at the football field. That was pretty stupid to call it a "special fire drill" because no one ever met all outside in the same area. We all met in our designated meeting areas just outside the building if it was a fire drill. Rumor started going around that someone had called a bomb threat, but we found out later that it was a prank. The same thing happened year after year until they finally caught them in my senior year. Their big mistake that got them caught was that they called with a cell phone.

I remember when I was in school, we got a false bomb threat, and basically the attitude was, ok, we know there's no bomb in the building, but we have to get everyone out of the building anyway. This was a few years before the series of school shootings that culminated in Columbine. So all the students basically thought it was a fun time and a break from class. I miss those idyllic days.

There are so many problems with the school system that breeds the kind of pranksterism that causes these events. I wish our schools were more like the Japanese system, with entrance exams at every level.

I think we had a bomb threat in my high school back sometime in 1998. Everyone had to evacuate the school and meet in the parking lot. My friends were so irritated that some of us thought of just going home after we had been standing in the cold for an hour. Afterward they had us going through metal detecors and having our bags searched as we came back in. It was frustrating, but I know the administration was just trying to keep us safe. Later that year we had to wear IDs all the time. Everyone complained that it felt like prison. The year before the principal had banned backpacks for about a month because of a weapon or something being found in a locker.

Back in 1994, (I was in eighth grade) my middle school had us all evaculated after some pepper spray was used in a classroom. Several students were sent to the hospital and others had some breathing problems for a few hours. We were split into groups and sent to different places to wait it out. Most of us were sent to the local high school gym. Mom came and got me after a neighbor heard about it on the news.

It really irriatates me how some people can think that doing stuff like that is entertaining or exciting. It's not. I was really worried about my friends and it's scary to think that something that bad can happen to you.

I'm going to reply to this politely, unlike someone else on this board...

You do NOT want a bomb threat. Yeah, it may sound cool and all and you get to miss class, but believe me, it sucks balls. I remember we had 7 both in my softmore and junior year of HS, some of them were like 3 days in a row. When you have a bomb threat, they make you sit outside for 3 long hours in the hot sun because they have to call the bomb squad in to check every single nook and cranny in the school. It especially sucks when your school is huge. Our school, being as sucky as it is, decided that whenever we have a firedrill or a bombthreat that we were to go to an assigned area and sit in a single file line with our homeroom. We were not allowed to get up, we were not allowed to talk to our friends in any of our other classes, and they were very strict on sending people to use the bathroom. I remember 9th and 11th graders sat at the track whereas 10th and 12th graders sat on the baseball field. I remember having to sit on the baseball field for 3 hours or so really sucked, especially when there is still dew on it. The WORST part about bomb threats is that you have to make up the time lost during them, meaning that because of the bomb threats, for a week they would extend school by an hour, or if there was an upcoming holiday (usually a teacher holiday), they would use that day to make up for lost hours and make everyone come to school. And yeah, the threats are usually caused by stupid immature freshman who leave notes in the bathroom. I agree with whoever said our school system should be more like the Japanese one where you take enterance exams to get into HS, because I remember 30% of my class got held back during my freshman year, and it was the same for the freshman year the next year. Well I'm glad I'm out of high school, so I don't have to worry about any "crap" like bomb threats.

Yeah. it was ME. So the hell what? As both a student and an upcoming teacher, I don't take kindly to someone WISHING that the entire staff and student body be inconvenienced mentally and emotionally just so they can have a little excitement.

I have a question about bomb threats. Why do they make the students wait right by the school? I mean, if it's a real bomb and goes off, wouldn't it cause damage in the area surrounding it, obviously hurting the people sitting around it? I'm not sure on this, I'm not an expert on bombs (I can't even get a lighter to work -_-) but that just seems a little weird to me.

I oftend wondered that myself while waiting outside. I said to my friend, "uh..shouldn't we be fleeing for our lives, or something?". I mean..I would think the radius of the explosion would reach us if we're just in the parking lot...

I can't speak for any other schools, but I know my old school district had a set radious that no one was allowed inside of during the time of bomb threats, I forgot the excat distance. I remember it was a good medium between being away from the school but not so far away as extremely long walks to and from with the chance of students running away.

My high school made us all gather at the football field for, well, everything (fires, shooting threats, bombings, etc.), which I thought was stupid, because if those types of people wanted us all dead, they'd know that they'd have to attack the football stadium. There is a Junior High across the street from that school to go to, though it might not be much safer.

There was a shooting threat at the high school I went to once. I think it was my sophmore or junior year (after Columbine). The people who made the threat told someone over the internet who was in Pennsylvania that they were planning the shooting, and that person called the FBI office in New Orleans, who contacted the local police (of the town I live in) and they arrested two boys. They had treatened to target football players, band members, and anyone wearing a white shirt(don't ask me about that, I still don't get it.) I was a band member, and so were most of my friends.

And about bomb radiuses, I would think they wouldn't want you so close to the building if there was a bomb threat. They would make you move farther away from it.
