.ogg files

Post by sailor53 » Fri Apr 02, 2004 8:16 pm

If I copied .ogg files to a cdr would they play on my cdplayer? Or Do I have to convert them to .mp3 or .wav files? Thanks.

You can burn them right to a CD-R and they will play, but your CD Burning software has to support the OGG files for that to work. I use Nero Burning ROM, and I downloaded a plug-in for the OGG files, and it works great.

Nero Burning ROM is not free. If you are using the CD burning software that came with your CD burner, I suggest user a MP3 converter. You can use the free dBpowerAMP.

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

First download the program. Then go download the OGG plugin so it can input OGG files. That's it.

Since we're on the topic of OGG files, I'd thought I'd ask this question here. I'd like to be able to burn OGG Media files that I've downloaded to VCD so I can watch them on my tv with my DVD player. Yes, I know that VCDs are crappy but I prefer being able to watch anime on my tv than on my computer. I don't mind watching it on the computer, but it's just something I prefer. I had been using the program VirtualDub to convert the files to AVI so Nero can then convert the file to MPEG for me and I can burn it to VCD. I managed to convert the video, but not the audio and the file comes out with no sound. So, my question is if somebody can help me convert both the video and audio for OGG Media files. I have been following this method with Virtualdub, but so far it's turned out no good:

1. File> open up the OGM
2. Streams> Streams list> Demux OGM audio stream
3. Select OK
4. File> save as
select AVI and DIRECT STREAM COPY
5. Load up the OGG file in GOLD WAVE
6. Save as WAV and 24 bit Stereo
7. Close GOLD WAVE
8. open up the AVI in Virtual Dub Mod
9. Streams> Streams list> Add Wav
10. Select OK
11. File> save as
select AVI and DIRECT STREAM COPY

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

I'm with you on the VCDs--low-quality video on a big-screen television is still better than high-quality on a PC monitor.

Have you tried using TMPGEnc to take the .ogm files directly to VCD-format mpgs? Theres a guide here which spells it out pretty well:

Thanks for the suggestion, SailorAsteroid. I tried out that program and it worked perfectly! Thanks again!

You're welcome. I've found that if you're going to be an anime fan, you've either got to be a minor expert in digital video or have a lot of money for professional DVDs/tapes. But the dvdrhelp.com site is a godsend.

I'm having some new problems with OGM files and the TMPEnc...I was able to convert sub-only OGM files to MPEG no problem, but bilingual is another story. When I convert the bilingual OGM file to MPEG, I can hear the sound, but there's no picture. Anyone care to help me with this?
