Garfield: The Movie

Post by Jed-kun » Tue Mar 30, 2004 6:36 pm

Yes, that's right, they've made a movie AND it's live action... 'cept for Garfield, he's CGI. I don't know wheather it'll be anygood or not, but I'm a HUGE Garfield fan so it better damn well be. It stars Jiniffer Love-Hewit and that guy from Married to the Kelly's [He's the young guy who just married into the family] who play's John. You can catch a preview at moviephone.com and it's shedualed to come out June 11 [my b-day :D ].

Personally I think that It'll be cute, but the J-Love thing kinda worries me, and the screaming children which will enevitably be sitting behind me throwing sticky half-eaten milk duds into my hair.

....wow. that's just idiotic. the garfield comic makes me giggle, but to make a movie out of it is just STUPID, imo.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I personally also think it's a bad idea. Garfield looks like a big puffball to me, and Odie...Isn't Odie. At all. Even my friend (Big Garfield buff) thinks that it looks bad. Like Tiff, I think that it's stupid. A great comic strip should remain a comic. What next, the Peanuts live action??

oh gods... that will be AWFUL. I am a HUGE Garfield fan, trying to read EVERY single collection book. but this will just be dull.

Span of movie:

Maim Mailman
Steal food
Annoy the heck out of john
Piss off odie
Sleep
Hang on door
shove food in mouth
etc...

lame.

*shakes head* No. They'll probably spend about 30 minutes on those hijinks you listed, and then think up some idiotic, random plot that has NOTHING to do with the comic...like the specials they made (ie: garfield goes hawaiian, etc), and then squeeze that into the last hour of the movie.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Live action except for a CG cat? Well, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever. . . wait a minute. . . :D

(Seen the first 4 eps of PGSM, downloading the rest for an eventual marathon.)

I like the Garfield comics, but I don't like the idea of a live-action + CGI cat movie. Hmm...where did this idea come from again? John Davis must be rolling over in his grave (is he even dead?). It's just a throwaway moneymaker movie, but how much of Garfield's life can you stuff in to 90 minutes and not get boring? I just hope that a few gags are put into the movie (The Nermal getting sent to Abu Dhabi gag, for one), but I probably won't watch it until it's shown on digital cable.

John Davis is alive. they must have talked him into it when he was half-asleep, and not knowing what was going on. ugh. how stupid people are these days...

Actually, I've always been curious to see what a live-action version of the Peanuts Christmas special would turn out to be like....^^;;; This is just stupid, though. Garfield doesn't even have a plot and is just random sillyness, so why make a movie about random sillyness unless it's going to be a random sillyness movie? I haven't even looked at the preview to see what it looks like, but I'm sure it'll be horrifying from all the reactions every once else has been having.

As a big Garfield fan, I have to see it. If I could tolerate BOTH Scooby-Doo movies (and seeing the first one a billion times, it seems), getting through this will be nothing. ^_^

Also, I think Bill Murray as Garfield is funny (in a weird, disturbing way).

What the HELL?!!!

I was a huge fan of the Garfield comics and the cartoon show when it used to air. I loved the idea of a cat who eats lasagna and everything in the house. But after I saw the previews, I so believe this movie is going to hit rock bottom for the following reasons...

1) Garfield doesn't even look like Garfield in this movie. Instead he just looks like some orange puffball with bulging green eyes.

2) The whole CGI thing can really make a movie look corny

3) Since when did Garfield eat mainly just junk food? I thought he ate hamburgers and roast hams and whatever, but not cheese snacks.

4) Every movie that starred Jennifer Love Hewitt ended up sucking. I seriously doubt that this movie will be any different. I thought The Tuxedo was going to be a great film because Jackie Chan starred in it and I highly enjoy just about every movie he stars in. JLH ended up making a type of movie that's almost impossible to go down in flames suck. At least JLH looks hot (that being her only redeming quality), yet she doesn't look as hot in the Garfield movie, especially with shorter hair.

.....
Wow.
That was, by far, one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/garfield/ has been up for quite some time now, and has a trailer for the movie. I watched it a few months ago, and was quite saddened.

I have all of the Garfield books (some are in the new 3-packs, but 19 onwards are all singles), and I follow the newer cartoons online (http://www.garfield.com posts the new ones every day). I also love the cartoon (YTV stopped airing it here in Canada, so now I can't watch it). However, this movie seems ... just odd.

Aside from what everyone else mentioned, it's just not going to be the same without Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield.

I'll probably still wind up watching it, but I don't know how good it's going to be.

I think Jennifer Love Hewitt is suppose to play the nurse that John always hits on in the comics/cartoon.

I have loved Garfield all my life. My dad used to collect all the books and I used to get all kinds of Garfield toys and stuff. When my Garfield sheets finally got worn out, my dad made them into curtains for my room. Currently I got a Garfield alarm clock.

I looked at the trailor at the offical Garfield website. Garfield himself isn't too bad looking. I mean, in real life that would probably be about what he'd look like. I do admit, Odie doesn't really look like Odie although....he probably would look similar to that considering that's the closest dog I can think of to his breed.

Ok, it doesn't look like anything all that special in the trailor. A lot of movies that I like now weren't all that fantastic in the trailors. So I'm gonna try to be optimistic that this one is gonna be better than it looks at the moment. I know that Jim Davis's company has been trying to make this movie something really great. It's not easy to make a live action movie from a cartoon/comic. Nothing is gonna look exactly perfect, but you never know. It might surprise us. But then again...maybe not. In June we'll find out.

Here is a summary of it that I got off of Yahoo's movie summery for Garfield: Garfield is forced to compete with a dog named Odie for the affection and attention of their perpetually single owner, Jon Arbuckle, when Odie is introduced to their home--much to Garfield's disgust. However, when Odie is kidnapped by a mean dog trainer, Garfield feels responsible, so he gets off his favorite spot and gets into action to rescue his fellow pet in crisis.

You're forgetting that JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT is in this movie. The fact that she's there lowers the probability that it will be a good film.

Actually, that's not entirely accurate. There's an old garfield cartoon I have on tape, where Odie gets sent to the pound, and Garfield tries to be happy of that fact, but he ends up missing him terribly. He goes to the pound to get him, but gets caught, too...They try to put Odie down, and Garfield feels horrid, and he rescues Odie. It's extremely touching, becuase Odie is sleeping and Garfield pets him while a sad song plays.

In another cartoon, Garfield's Nine Lives, after their ninth life, "God" asks Garfield if Odie is a cat, too, and Garfield lies and says he is so that they can have another nine lives together.

They're almost like Rei and Usagi...He acts like he can't stand Odie, but if he were to lose him, he'd feel horrible.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.

ok....no one has seen this film yet except for trailors and yet i'm hearing negativity about some actress. No, I'm not forgetting that Jennifer Love Hewitt is in this film. I'm just saying that there is a possiblity that this could still turn out great. Every actor/actress has a successful film at one time or another. Just like every good actress/actor can have a flop once and awhile. You don't know till you watch.

I have watched the cartoons and read the comic strips all my life. Garfield enjoys tormenting Odie, but he doesn't flat out hate him. I've never seen true hatred from Garfield. There's been plenty of times when he's shown Odie that he cares about him. The film "Here Comes Garfield" had a similar plot to this. The fact is that they are really good friends. they have played together often. even gang up on Jon a few times. It's a love/hate relationship. In the end you know that Garfield would do anything he could for Jon and Odie.
