Stupid characters in good shows
What tv shows do you like, but have one or two characters that always irk you? Here are some of mine:
Stefan, Family Matters- he was supposed to be cool, but I thought he looked and sounded dorkier than Urkel, IMHO.
And when he became a seperate character from Urkel later on...ugh.
Topanga, Boy Meets World- I can't STAND her. She's always yelling at Cory, who's incredibly nice and sweet to everyone, blaming him for being the least bit indecisive. The off-and-on boyfriend/girlfriend relationship she and Cory had SO got on my nerves in the final seasons.
Mindy, Animaniacs- poor Buttons...he doesn't derserve the abundant amount of shit he goes through to save that clueless girl's life. This was, and always will be, the lamest segment on Animaniacs. Period.
Helga Pataki, Hey Arnold!- just rename the show Hey Helga! already..
Philip J. Fry, Futurama- I love this show, but Fry himself is just so irratating..and it doesn't help that every time I see him, I'm reminded of Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy (same actor, btw). He has his moments, especially in the first and last seasons, but not enough for me to like him.
Flim Flam, Scooby Doo- who needs Scrappy Doo when you got this kid? Compared to Flim Flam, Scrappy Doo is akin to Bugs Bunny in terms of coolness.
NOTE: I know there's a topic similar to this onje (about character you don't normally like), but I thought this was just different enough to make a new topic about. If not, I'll just merge this with the older topic.

"With this candle I will..set your mother on fire." - Victor, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Everybody Loves Raymond: Amy, who is Robert's fiancee. Everything about her annoys me. Her voice, the way she talks, and she's just..UGH. Annoying.
Looney Tunes: Porky Pig and Tweety. Can't stand either one of them. Porky's stuttering makes me want to hurt things, and Tweety's just an all-around irritating character.
The Simpsons: Maggie. I know there isn't much to her, but I think that's why I don't like her..she's POINTLESS.
Reba: The ex-husband's wife...I can't remember her name for the life of me...Dear god, she is the most annoying character EVER. I just shudder everytime she comes onto the screen.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Oh, man. In the early seasons, Topanga Lawrence was a great character who was into all this New Age stuff and was an A student to boot. when they turned her into an actual female and had her going with Cory, I turned it off and still refuse to watch even a second of this show.Topanga, Boy Meets World- I can't STAND her. She's always yelling at Cory, who's incredibly nice and sweet to everyone, blaming him for being the least bit indecisive. OK, some other stupid characters in good shows:
Law and Order: Nora. While no one could have been as good as Steven Hill, this sappy, molly-coddling grandmother type as head DA just didn't work.
Star Trek:TNG: Deanna. Useless eye candy whose only two emotions are worried and hysterical.

Animaniacs: Yakko Warner. I hate him for all the same reasons I do Seiya and then some...he's like Seiya without ANY redeeming qualities. He's obnoxiously suave, thinks all the girls love him, always the leader, gets the most songs, only gets tired/beat-up-ish twice (in the All the Words in the English Language segment and in the Wakko's Wish movie). At least Seiya does have true compassion for Usagi and gets beat up more (so he's not a male/female Mary Sue). Yakko, on the other hand, is
!
I do like Wakko and Dot, though, so they save Animaniacs for me. If they weren't in it, I'd probably not like it that much, since I've never liked Yakko since I first saw him when I was 11.

I beg to differ. Seiya was an ancillary character in a serial show of relatively complex plot. He should have been nuanced and fallibly human (Whether he is or not is beyond the scope of this discussion). Yakko Warner was one of three main characters in a series of comedic shorts, each in its own continuum. The purpose of the shorts was to portray the Warners as righteous, if not through their moral perfection, through shear power and force (i.e. their command of cartoon physics). Also, in general, the "Special Friend" of the day was often not particularly evil (Abraham Lincoln and Albert Einstein leap to mind). So Yakko showing weakness defeats the point of his character. The same concepts apply to the Warners' spiritual ancestor, Bugs Bunny. If he had any compromise with Elmer or Sam, or showed humanity in any way, the shorts cease to work.Rainbow wrote:Animaniacs: Yakko Warner. True, but I still have the right to dislike him greatly. Hating Yakko may be irrational, but at least it's more harmless than hating real people. Also, the Warner kids have one HUGE difference from Bugs--they often (not always, but often) initiate the troublemaking, while Bugs is usually relaxing in some way or another when someone sneaks up on him.

This is the same reason I hate Tweety..almost. The second he sees Sylverster, his first thought to mind: beat the shit out of him. It wasn't funny the first 30 or so cartoons the two were paired up in, and it isn't funny today. At least Tom and Jerry's Jerry had a formidable opponenet for him to go against to level the playing field...Sylvester stands no chance against a little friggin' canary. It's just plain stupid!Rainbow wrote:Also, the Warner kids have one HUGE difference from Bugs--they often (not always, but often) initiate the troublemaking, while Bugs is usually relaxing in some way or another when someone sneaks up on him.

Loonytoons: I too cannot stand Porkey nor Tweety and that Road Runner's days are numbered too.
Highlander: Richie. The kid whined so much! And Amanda was such a tramp, I can't believe she got the spin-off insted of Methos.
Duck Tales: Gizmo Duck. Ugh, such a goody goody and I couldn't stand the voice he used when he was in the suit. Then he has to go and intude on Darkwing Duck. At least Darkwing got some good cracks at him.
Family Matters: Urkel's girlfriend. Her obession with Steve was disturbing, did anyone else notice she had Steve pictures all over her room and Steve printed sheets? ::shudder::

Boy Meets World-Topanga I liked her when she was a New Age hippie. Then they turned her into a shallow Valley girl, and then she became a whiny b*tch.
Family Matters- all the characters introduced in the later seasons Urkel( in any form), although being a nice-looking man, was straight annoying, and his voice!
Waldo was too stupid for my taste, Myra was annoying, and 3J...the worst last minute cute kid ever! (They had Richie from the start..why did they need to replace him with something twice as pointless and three times more annoying!) Why did they get rid of all the FUNNY women, i.e Grandma Winslow? I lost interest in the show around the time Jamie and Rachel left, and stopped watching when Grandma Winslow left.

The gay guy from NYPD Blue. NOT because he's gay, just because he's...just there. He's like "obligatory gay guy." Most pointless character ever. I do get a kick out of him getting tiny little shots during the show, tho. It's like they have to give him a certain amount of screentime per ep, so they just do lots of little cuts to him answering the phone or making worried faces.
The girl with braces from Invader ZIM. She reminds me SO MUCH of this girl I used to know from junior high. I don't like her braces or her hair or the way she talks (tho she does get some funny lines). The show would be better without her. I'm glad she's just a background character.
Joseph from King of the Hill before he went through puberty he was okay, but now he's just a big dumb goob. Apparently, puberty makes you a moron. *shrugs*

I dunno...Bubba the Cave Duck was a lamer addition to the series, IMHO. He did nothing to add to the series, and that voice got annoying really quickly. At least Gizmo Duck was sometimes fuuny.KoiNoVash wrote:Duck Tales: Gizmo Duck. Ugh, such a goody goody and I couldn't stand the voice he used when he was in the suit. LOL! You mean Barbara Jean? I think she's stupidly funny (though annoying, I agree). I love it how she fights with the other characters. TANGERINE! lol.....Tiff wrote: Reba: The ex-husband's wife...I can't remember her name for the life of me...Dear god, she is the most annoying character EVER. itchy from the simpsons: seeing scratchy tortued for no apparent reason episode to episode just isn't funny to me. i could see if scratchy was constantly instigating fights with itchy, but 9 times out of 10 he's simply minding his own business.
chopper from making the band: i guess he's not really a character with a script to read, but still. he is so cocky, and he acts like he's a big shot even though the second this show goes off the air, no one will recognize him and anyone who does won't care.
sally from 3rd rock from the sun: i don't know; she's just annoying. it's probably because she always acts like she's so hot even though, in my opinion, she's just goofy and looks like a lumberjack. also, don is so crazy about her, but she just completely takes the guy for granted.
emma from degrassi: i just hate that condescending, self-righteous attitude of hers.
goku from dragonball z: i can't stand the way everyone hangs around and gets beat up waiting for him. i hate the way he is just impossibly strong. that's all i can think of at this moment, if something else comes to me i will mention it.

WWE Raw: Triple H - one of the most powerful people on Raw (in terms of political power), along with Shawn Michaels; here's his list: hogs up too much TV time, given the (worthless) World Heavyweight title, necrophilia, reputation for burying the more talented wrestlers, and he lets his faction, Evolution, do all the dirty work for him. Now he gained more power by marrying Stephanie McMahon (in real life, BTW)
Sheldon (My Life as a Teenage Robot)-- Every fan of the show seems to adore him and think he and Jenny make the cutest couple ever, but I hate him... with a burning passion. While he gives me a good laugh every once in a while, I still consider him to be one of the most annoyingly clingy, drippy, over-protective, and disturbingly obsessed nerds to ever hit TV screens. He shouldn't have become a reoccurring character after his introductory episode.
Cindy Vortex (Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius)-- She's not so bad in the movie, but in the series, I'd like to knock the b*tch flat. I just don't see how Jimmy, the boy genius himself, can be deeply in love with someone who does nothing but degrade and humiliate him on a daily basis. It's pathetic.

I forgot one. Drew Carrey from Whose Line Is It, Anyway?. I LOVE that show, it's hilarious, but I can't stand the host. I like Clive Anderson much better. He's British. Anyway, I hate how Drew has to somehow get himself involved in the show he's hosting. Damn, he hosts the thing, he should be satisfied. I tuned in to see Ryan and Colin do "Film Noir," not Drew doing something that isn't even funny. Grr. He should just keep is fat butt behind the desk and give out imaginary points.

Jimmy is NOT IN LOVE with Cindy...yet. Granted, it's hinted that the two have feelings for one another, but they won't actually fall in love unless the characters in the series get older or something. And even if the two were in love, there's no way at the current rate the series is at that they'd admit it.Rindesayu wrote:Cindy Vortex (Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius)-- She's not so bad in the movie, but in the series, I'd like to knock the b*tch flat. Jacquise from Real World San Diego. He's there for no reason. He only had one problem in the beginning and then that's it. Then he became irritating. I hate it when he assumes things about the other people in the house and how he calls hiself a Bootyologist.
I hate JT from Degrassi. He annoys the hell out of me because he thinks he's so damn funny when he's not.
Can't think of anymore right now...
