Gas Prices

Post by Chibi Son Gokou » Fri Mar 12, 2004 11:18 pm

How much does gas cost where you live? Here in Florida, it currently costs $1.74 a gallon, which is pretty ridiculous.

On the news, whenever they say gas prices are going down, it takes a week for them to actually lower, but when they say they're going up, they go up even before they announce it.

Blame the problems in the oil industry and the affairs our nation becomes involved in when it shouldn't.

Right now in Texas I think it's about 1.60. We have really, really, cheap gas, what, with all the oil and all.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Where in Florida do you live? I'm in the Daytona Beach area, and our gas is cheaper than that. I don't really pay attention to prices seeing as I don't drive (even though I'm old enough :oops:), but I do know that prices start to go up as one gets closer to Orlando.

Well, in AZ, it keeps changing ^^; I think I saw it around 1.60$ last month. I don't drive that much with my car, so I don't have to get gas :D

Or you could blame a colder than average winter on the east coast. Or you could blame a pipe rupture in Arizona. Or you could blame OPEC for reducing oil output in the middle east thus raising gas prices. Not to be rude, but there are far more factors involved than the US being in 'affairs our nation shouldn't be in'. But i'm getting into a subject that should be saved for another topic =)

Here in Las Vegas, Nevada, we've reached an all time high for gas prices. The low I've seen (arco) is $2.04, the high is around $2.15. We've NEVER broke the two dollar mark before. The sad thing about it is that I remember when i used to be upset about gas getting above $1.40.......Just 3 years ago. Lately i've wet myself over seeing prices in the $1.60 range. It's all a ploy really. Gas companies are just selling gas so high because they have an excuse to do so. I wager to bet that production costs aren't too terribly much higher than they were say 5 years ago. Bleeeeh.

I live in Titusville, which is surprisingly close, lol. But yeah, gas prices just went up this week.

Just curious, is anyone here from Canada?

I have a friend who is and considering how everything there is more expensive than it is in the U.S., she says that Unleaded gas there is 74 cents a gallon! I could not believe that.

Around where I live, the lowest I have seen it has been $1.52. And this was very recently.

And everyone I know is complaining about our prices here. Now I can tell them not to feel bad.

I live in Canada, and currently the gas prices are around 70 cents where I live. But these change very drastically, and I've seen the prices go up from 60 cents to 70 cents in a day.

Wow, didn't know gas prices were such a hot topic here.

I'll have to ask my g/f, she works for Exxon-Mobil and (now PLEASE do not jump all over us for this) she actually does the pricing analysis for the mid-atlantic region, used to do New England region.

I obviously don't drive (being only 12), so I don't keep a close eye on the gas prices, but from what I recall, I think that the gas prices around here are about 1.80.

I'm sorry to have to do this to you, but you should be well aware that under COPPA laws, people under the age of 13 are not allowed to use services on the Internet such as forums. This little piece of documentation was the first thing that was mentioned in registering, where the option to continue registering had text that said something along the lines of "by clicking this link, I agree to the terms noted above and that I am of the age 13 and older." Since you just freely admitted to being 12, which is not 13 or older, I cannot allow you to continue using these forums until you're 13. Since I can't find anything on the forums telling me when your birthday is, I have no choice but to ban you for one full year from this date as one year from today you will be of age to use various Internet services. It's cyrstal clear violation of US law, and that cannot be allowed, and I'm dead serious and will not hesitate to enforce this as I am now.

To everyone else here on the forums, if you have gotten away with not being at least 13 and using these forums, do the right thing and come clean to me telling me when you turn 13 so I can disable your account until that date.

If, however, you are caught lying at some point, I will not hesitate to ban you not only from the forums, but from phobos completely. Situations where you're 12 now, say you're 13 to use the forums, and at some later date you either slip up or say outright proving you were lying back then, will not be tolerated. If you use the forums before you turn 13 and when you turn 13 and brag thinking you got away with it, you've screwed yourself over. ANY shit like that happens, and I will prevent you from ever using anything on phobos. This means not only have you earned no usage of the SMU forums for life, you have earned the inability to access SMU altogether, as well as MKBO, and any other projects I might do in the future.

I'm dead serious about this, don't think I won't. Follow the law and just wait until you turn 13, or break the law and screw yourself over. It's your choice.

Minna, sorry to have to intruppt this thread like this, but as you can see, this was a serious issue which had to be addressed.

I'm going to miss Hino_Rei552 ;-;

Anyways, yeah I don't think gas prices are going down anytime soon, and the oil producers don't worry about reducing the prices since the demand for gas is inelastic. If gas was 10 bucks a gallon, people would still pay for it.

If gas were $10/gallon, and wages stayed the same, I would think that you would see a lot more mass transit, or people walking the mile to the store. I believe that automobile sales would diminish as a result, therefore showing a drop in automobile prices.

I also discovered that gas in the area I live is around 5 cents cheaper than where I work, which is about 10 miles apart.

Not necessarily true. Not everyone lives in the big city; in fact a majority of people live outside. Most people commute to their jobs nowadays, and a lot of them don't have the advantage of the metro or other things. Buses are powered by gasoline as well. Therefore, people need the gas and would pay for it even if it was ridiculously high. In our complex modern society, if gasoline sales were to fall, the economy would land in the hugest slump it has ever witnessed.

I wasn't doubting that they wouldn't pay for it, I was saying that you'd see a lot more "social driving" diminish, such as going to the store a mile down the road. Instead of driving to the store, I think that people would walk that distance.

And I know a lot of people live outside the city. I live in a spec on the map, and you need a microscope to see the spec...

offtopic:: you are not the only one who lives in a small town like that.::/offtopic

anyway, you are right. I have to commute 30 minutes to the University I go to from my house, and the citites nearest me take between 30 minutes and an hour to get to (depending on whether I am trying to go to New Orleans or Baton Rouge.) And gas prices do vary from small town to bigger town to city. So not every one can just walk when they needed to go somewhere.

It's around $1.65 for reg. gas at an Exon or Mobile... but in places like 7/11 its around $1.85-.95. And for Diesel, wow..it's around $1.80-90ish at Exon, but $2.10-.15 at 7/11. o_o;
