Martha Stewart Living... In Prison

Post by Jeff » Fri Mar 05, 2004 10:36 pm

Well, the verdict is out on Martha Stewart's highly publicized trial. And she's GUILTY! On every charge. She faces up to 20 years of prison time, although it's doubtful she'll get that much. Her daughter was crying as they called the verdict and Martha apparently grimaced and her eyes widened. She plans to make an appeal. Sentencing is scheduled for June.

And did anyone else know she was 62?!

[By the way, weren't there 2 other Martha topics? What happened?]

I believe those topics were on the old forum, before the crash.

and I don't know enough about the trial to comment...i'd just come off sounding like a moron. I must say I do admire her knowledge of certain things, though.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I don't keep close tabs on the Martha charge, but I do know that she's guilty-I saw it when I logged into my email account on yahoo. Do you really think that she'll get 20 years?!?
62?!? Wow...I didn't know that she was that old. I always thought she was around 40 or 50 something.

I don't think she'll get 20 years for this. She's a celebrity, and they usually get off easy...And this is nothing too, too big, she wasn't as corrupt as most of the head C.E.O's out there. (But she's pretty close) And since she's planning to appeal, that's going to take awhile. I doubt it that in the end she'll get more than 5 years.

Eh, I don't really care about it that much, but I don't think she's going to get the maximum either. Celebrities and other rich people with high powered lawyers abuse the legal system.

Charges:

Homemaking diva Martha Stewart is facing a prison sentence after a court found her guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements in connection with sale of stocks of a bio-tech company, ImClone.

And I don't think they abused the legal system here; if they did, she would have walked away from this, like OJ did. Instead, the defense played a too-cautious game, one that cost Stewart in the end.

[OBLIGATORY MARTHA JOKE]

"Now, I've found that if the prison food is bad, you can heat it by placing it under your cellmate's ass. And, tying your pillow sheets to the walls makes for a pleasant homey touch. Next, I'll show you how to make Rutabega Casserole from soap!"

[/endjoke]

If you can't tell, I'm not a big fan of Martha. She irritates me to no end. Granted, I don't think she should be imprisoned for this, but I've only heard about her supposed "stock fraud" or whatever. How is it wrong to get advice from someone? Isn't that what brokers are there for?
