Grad and prom ideas
Ok, as I mentioned earlier, since I am graduating from high school this year, I really need ideas for formal attire. I don't have a clue as to what I'm going to wear or anything. I'll give you a good description about myself:
~my hair is straight, falls in layers, just past my shoulders, and it's dirty blond or light brown, I don't know which or how else to describe it ^^;;. (exact same hair color as Hanson's if you look at their recent pics at www.hansonhotel.com sorry to bring them into the picture again ^^)
~I'm only 5'4 and I have a full figure. My bra size is only a C cup and I'm about 15 pounds overweight, so I want to hide all that, unless I can hopefully lose it before grad.
~I like things that are simple. I don't mind a little sparkle here and there, but I don't want anything too gaudy looking
~I may want to braid my hair in some way; new or unusual braiding ideas would be awesome
~As far as the whole style thing goes, I'm a big fan of Michelle Branch and I think some of the outfits she wore were pretty cute, I also enjoy Japanese fashion and some of my favorite colors are blue and white
Or, just state what you wore on your high school graduation/prom. The more/variety ideas, the better. Thanks, everyone!

I'm full-figured like you, and the dress I wore for prom was perfect for it. It had a boned top, which basically keeps in your "stomach fat" lol, and a full skirt. Get something that flatters your good parts, or what you consider to be your good parts..for example: I have nice shoulders and neck, so as you can see by the pics, I chose a dress that showed that.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Eeee! Fashion advice! *is in heaven* Sorry, I but I just love doing this...
If you have light brown hair, then I would suggest a light blue dress, aquamarine or the like, and get your date to wear a white tuxedo. They look really weird (that's what I wore last year) but it matches the dress better than a black tux, so the together "cuteness" overpowers the white tux's stand-alone "tackiness."
To match your figure, I would go with something similar to what Tiffu wore. Don't wear something strapless, because a person has to be super-skinny to really pull off the strapless look. But don't go with the super-huge straps, either. You want to show off some of your body, after all. Since you're 5'4", get a dress that matches your height, but that still hides your feet. One thing you'll quickly learn: prom shoes do not stay on, because they hurt. So, you want something to hide your feet so you can take off your shoes and not be noticed.
As for the hair, braids and the like don't really match the whole prom idea. Talk to your hairstylist, and let him/her give you ideas as to what would go best with your "look." Maybe show him/her your dress one day. He/she can give you better ideas than we can.
Now, for make-up. When it comes to make-up, prom is different from other events. You have to pay more attention to make-up than at other times. You defintely want to accentuate your natural beauty. Prom is about making yourself look beautiful, and making all the boys want you. Don't use make-up over-excessively, but don't use it too sparingly, either. Another time when you need advice from someone close to you.
And Tiffu is right. Graduation means wearing the cap and gown they provide you. Don't get your hair done beautifully, but don't let it be a hideous mess, either. Wear casual clothes that you feel comfortable doing things in. Cause after graduation, you get to go to parties!
I hope that helped!

Hey you don't have to thank me, you ARE cute, dammit XD
I want recent pictures! Of everyone!
XD XD XD Me wants!! Gimme!
Even you when you get to choose your dress, RoastedTwinkies. Oh, that will be gorgeous.
And I agree with the brown hair/blue dress: cause if you choose a red dress, it might look too much, and if you choose white, depending on which shade, you could get that dirty wayyyyyyyyy too easily! (hey, I should try to contribute as well to the topic after all).
But I need pictures, lol. GAH! XD

......ChuChu, I think you just proved that you have 800 times more estrogen than I do. I would have recommended her to "Wear a pretty dress, look pretty, and find a nice hairstylist who doesn't have any grudges or homicidal tendencies toward you. Oh, and be confident and have fun."
Actually, I would recommend searching through websites and teen-girl mags to get ideas of things you really like. They generally have makeup and clothing recommendations for different skin tones and body types. Unfortunately, Seventeen is translated from Korean into English by monkies, as is Parakiss's post, so I'd recommend a person fluent in teen-girl-speak to help you understand if you don't yourself.
OOOH! And Tiffu has the cutest smile ever~!

Flipping through Seventeen and the like is a good idea, too. And, if need be, I can translate my post. Looking back, I realize that I used a lot of teen-girl-speak. If anything needs explained, let me know.Anthy wrote:......ChuChu, I think you just proved that you have 800 times more estrogen than I do. Weeeeeellll...I was going to start a new topic, but then I remembered that Twinkies-chan had a topic on the same subject, so I thought "Why not just steal her topic?" :P
I am having my grad/prom thing in May. I don't need advice on what to wear since I'm making my dress (and by making it I don't mean I saw a pattern at Wal-mart and picked out some material to go with it, I drew up an original design and gave it to my sewing teacher who made a pattern out of my drawing).
I need advice on what make up to wear, what shoes to wear and how to do my hair. First, to give you an idea of what my dress looks like, it's royal blue and white. The top part is blue and kind of goes in a toob top shape, but I have a gold ring that'll sit on my throat. The toob top is sort of gathered and goes through the ring. Two strings are also attached to the ring and will tie around my neck to hold it up. It has white ribbons on the outside of my waist that are part of a corset.
As for the sleeves...the only example I can think of is that they look like Jasmine's from Aladdin, except they droop slightly more and'll be royal blue too. They'll have these three blue straps that will be twisted slightly and cirlce my arms and be gathered in a cuff on my sleeve. The cuff will be covered with a large gold braclet (like Galaxia's, but without the purple and green gems).
The bottom part is sort of like two skirts over top of each other. The top layer is royal blue and the one underneath it is white. To give you a better idea of what it looks like, you'll have to find a picture of Makoto in her princess outfit from the manga. You'll notice that it has the two pieces over top of each other thing. It also has a slit right in the front. Mine is like this, except that the slit is much lower, probably starting at 3 1/2 inches above my knees and it's not as poofy. It's straight down with a slight poof. The back has a very ruffled bow that will be both blue and white.
Now that that's done, I have no clue what type/colour of shoe to wear?
For my hair, it's brunette, but has natural highlights of red and blonde. It goes to my waist and is about 24 inches. The last half of it is very curly and dry. I was thinking of straightning it and either
A)Curling just the ends or
B)Having is go in ringlets
For my make-up...I have no clue what goes with royal blue and white 0___o. Normally I always wear red lipstick with violet eyeshadow. I'd like to wear eyeliner but I can never seem to get it on properly. I don't need to wear massacre because my eyelashes are already ungodly long and it'll just smear on my glasses. If anyone can recomemmend VERY strong, water resistant eye make up, please do so because it would help me a lot.
And that's about it. Any help would be appriciated ^___^

Wiht the shoes I'd suggest either a bule or a white go for shallow heel's.
For your hair humm I'd say go wiht what you now you could handly for the night aka don't say have it down knowing that you'll end up tieing it back as it keep's flopping over your face.
Make-Up try a natural look or eyeshadow that has a tiny hint of bule .
Anywa that's my two-cent's and as for the mascara if you want I'll look out for som for you ^^
edit: spelling error ^^;

For the love of Yahweh, please tell me you both mean "mascara."
For your hair and the dress you described, I would straighten it, but maybe do something else with it, too. Put part of it in a bun, or a small chiffon or something. Straight here, while pretty, is boring on events like this.
Shoes...I would get shoes to match the royal blue of the dress. Though you'll probably find that the shoes won't stay on long anyway. ^^
I can't give advice on make-up colours and such, but I can say to just wear it wisely. Don't overpower your natural qualities, and make sure it doesn't clash with the dress. Maybe pale blue colours?

I was thinking either blue or white for the shoes, I just can't decide on what style and which of the two colours.
For the make-up, I was thinking something like a light or purpilish blue, it's just the lipstick I'm having trouble with. I mostly have ruby like colours and that doesn't really go with royal blue. I have a dark wine colour though.
I might try and scan my drawings of my dress, but I'd have to get them back from my teacher and she doesn't seem like she'll relinquish them anytime soon -_-
Um................I was using the Canadian spelling ^_^; :tries to hide the fact that she's a dumbass:For the love of Yahweh, please tell me you both mean "mascara."

I never really thought of a bun. I'd actually like to have it down though. It never really gets in my face when it's down so it wouldn't bother me. Oh, and what's a Chiffon? For your hair and the dress you described, I would straighten it, but maybe do something else with it, too. Put part of it in a bun, or a small chiffon or something.

That sounds cute ^_^
Like Parakiss mentioned, choose colors that will match. To maintain the consistancy, go with the blue shoes, since the blue won't show dirt as much as white would in case if something happens.
Oh yeah, I never did mention what I ended up wearing at my grad last year. ^_^ For the Friday evening during the ceremonies, everyone was still dressed very formal underneath their gowns. For that day, I wore my hair in a half updo with twists in the back. This proved to be problematic when I wore the cap. D'oh! As far as the dress goes, I bought a white dress that had a french print (looks like the eiffel tower and french women were drawn on the dress with a sharpie) that was originally strapless and had an ugly mesh fringe at the bottom. So I got it altered, removed the mesh and attached straps to the dress. Because my legs were nasty with a rash, I wore black tights so that it didn't show. It turned out quite cute. I still have that dress ^_^ But I honestly didn't wear hardly any makeup.
For Saturday night, I wore a black dress with sparkles along the top hemming. The dress looked beautiful on me but the sparkles were digging into my skin under my arms and it hurt ;_; I wore my hair down for that night because my scalp was really sore and sensitive from the pins the day before. I actually didn't wear any makeup whatsoever for this night. I don't know, I just don't like makeup. Period. I wore the same black shoes for both nights.
Also, a Japanese girl graduated a year before me and instead of wearing a dress to the ceremonies, she wore a yukata.
Hopefully this will get your creativity flowing ^_^

Yeah, you're right, blue would be more consistant. But now I'm wondering if I should wear a sandal like shoe, or lace shoes or how high it should be.Like Parakiss mentioned, choose colors that will match. An East Indian girl at my school was saying something about wearing one of those dresses her people wear, except that it would be one that would show off a lot of her midriff, which is a bad idea in her case -_-Also, a Japanese girl graduated a year before me and instead of wearing a dress to the ceremonies, she wore a yukata.

If you like your feet and aren't embarassed to show them off, go for the sandal like shoe. About the length, if you're confident enough, go for high heels. However, if you're already very tall or like me, tripping all over the place in heels, go for short ones or flats.peachvampiress wrote:Yeah, you're right, blue would be more consistant.
