The Oscars

Post by Hino_Rei552 » Mon Mar 01, 2004 3:45 pm

What did you think?
I was SO PROUD of everyone in LOTR!! I swear to god, I was jumping up and down and screaming. The first two movies didn't get the credit that they so deserved. I was sad, however, that I didn't see Viggo. :(
I was also mad that Johnny Depp didn't win for best actor in Pirates. He rocks! And I think that Seabiscuit should have won at least SOMETHING. That was a freaking good movie.

What are your opinions?

P.S. Billy Crystal sings some interesting songs.

I don't like LotR, so I have no comment.
I will say this; I felt Bill Murry got screwed.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! My mom thinks that Finding Nemo should have won for Best Screenplay. Mind you, my mom doesn't normally think of such high opinions for animated features, so this was very weird for me.

LOTR got way too much recognition, if you ask me. Ridiculous amount of awards.

I think Pirates should have gotten more recognition (especially on the effects part, with the undead pirates), as well as Seabiscuit, and Finding Nemo.

I enjoyed the flashback thingy of Bob Hope. That was humorous. As well as Jack Black singing.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I think that Lord of the Rings deserved everyone of those awards. So much time, effort, and money was placed into those movies, and the first two didn't get reconized a lot...There were so many dedicated people working on these films, and now their efforts are reconized officially, not just by the fan base.
And I didn't watch the Oscars, btw. My friend (a major t.v junkie) sits beside me, so I knew I'd be told everything during Math class.

They didn't get recognized because they weren't put into the ballots until the last movie was completed and premired in the box office. When the LotR was first annoucned as being filmed, it was announced as a trilogy. After all three movies were completed, they were all going to be recognized as one entire movie/event/whatever. As well as LotR movies did in the past I don't think it would have been purposely ignored, unless for a good reason.

Yes, LotR probably deserver some of the awards. I personlly think that LotR was too hyped-up. I saw TwinTowers in the theater with my sister, and I was bored stiff. I felt it wasn't as nearly as entertaining as everyone lead me to believe.

Oh, is that what happened? My appologies...But I understood that TTT won some awards, or something...I don't think they were viewed as one trilogy, because I read somewhere that it was the only movie that won awards...But then again, I'm probably wrong, so my appologies if I am.

Well, I like The Lord of the Rings and I still agree with those who felt that it won too many awards. If you asked me, it should have stuck with Best Music and Best Costumes. That's it. :P

Then again, I would have also loved to see Johnny Depp win Best Costume. He looked (and sounded, but that's another story) great as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean! ^_^

My mom says she think they might have gotten a "People's choice" or some other award, but to her knowlage, they were holding off on oscar nominations until the third movie was done.

::Edit::
My bad. They did get Oscars. My brother was very vague when explaining the LotR trilogy awards thing, either he was vague or I spaced out. Which has been known to happen. I was under the impression that they were holding off on Nominations until the final movie was completed.

Most years I watch the Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys religiously. This year, I've avoided both the Grammys and the Oscars (the Tonys will still be watched in complete silence and death to all who attempt to disturb my broadway orgasms). I just had a feeling that I wasn't going to be pleased with either award show this year, and I was right. I feel that Johnny Depp should have won Best Actor, because he MADE Capt. Jack. Sean Penn in Mystic River was kinda boring, and as for Bill Murray... I love him, but if you've seen one of his movies, you've basically seen them all. His characters hardly ever differentiate. Also, I feel that Patricia Clarkson should have won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Pieces of April, because she (and that movie) kicked the ass. As for LOTR, I'm not a huge fan of the movies, but I do believe they should have won the awards for the costumes and such. The costumes/makeup were amazing in those films. But as for the people who say that LOTR was cheated because none of the actors were nominated, I say "*stare.*" None of the actors measured up to any of the nominated ones...

I COMPLETELY agree.

And I'm with you, Tempest. I got bored after a while with the first LOTR. I didn't even see the second or third ones.

I haven't seen Return of the King. I saw the first two LOTRs though. They're good movies but if ROTK isn't much better, I also don't think it deserved to win ALL of those awards. That was quite a bit...

I'll put it this way for ROTK: Starscream's mom fell asleep in the first two LOTR films, but stayed awake and was on her feet cheering at the end of ROTK.

I'm a big fan of the books, loved the movies, and cheered every time it won an award. It deserved the sweep. :)

That said, yes, both Johnny Depp and Bill Murray got shafted, and I'll admit I was cheering for the song from Triplets of Belleville. I need to see that sometime. :)

Yes, Johnny Depp should have won. He was one of the major reasons that Pirates was such a kick-ass movie.
I was also rooting for the 13-year-old girl nominated for best actress...it was sweet when she finally got to meet Johnny Depp.

Just wait till you see that movie. Its a rather...interesting film. Just a heads up though; there's only about four lines of dialog in the while film. Just a warning.
