Girl Scout Cookies!

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Mon Feb 23, 2004 7:35 pm

Girl Scouts are going around selling those tasty cookies again around here. My mother bought some from a girl at our church last night and I'm really happy about that. I just love Girl Scout cookies and think they're really tasty, my fav being Thin Mints and least fav being Samoa(spelling?) cookies. I'm kind of sad that Girl Scouts don't come to your house to sell their cookies anymore because that's part of the tradidition.

We used to get them and fundraisers all the time, but now hardly anyone ever stops by to sell us something and I kind of miss it. The Girl Scouts tend to do most of their selling either in front of stores like Wal-mart or supermarkets like Food Lion or they sell them to their friends or families or to people at church. What really annoys me is how they have Girl Scout cookies on sale at supermarkets all year round. Where's the fun in that? What makes Girl Scout cookies so much fun is being able to buy them only at a certain time of the year from those little girls with the smiling faces who're raising money for a good cause. To be able to buy them anytime of the year at the store like any regular 'ol cookies ruins the fun to me.

Is anyone else getting Girl Scout cookies and are you getting any Girl Scouts at your front door or in front of stores or other sources and what do you think about 'em? I love them personally, but the fun of buying the Girl Scout cookies is in that one time of year from the little girls who stop by your house.

Sadly, I haven't had the experience of buying cookies from actual girl scouts since at least finishing high school since they don't go door to door in the dorms. However, they did set up a booth in the student union this week, I hope it's a yearly thing, and I picked up 3 boxes since they're so good. ^_^

When my sister started selling them, I had 100 dollars in my bank account.

5 minutes later, I had $70.

I just can't resist girl scout cookies. I am ADDICTED to Tagalongs. I don't like Thin Mints...*dodges bombs thrown at her* I don't like mint. I also like Trefoils. I really don't like Samoas (I can't stand coconut.)

Only, they got rid of Aloha Chips! MY OTHER FAVORITE!!! *sobsob*

I am a Girl Guide (Canadian version of Girl Scouts) and have been for about 8 or 9 years...So I have lots and lots of experience with cookies.
Ok, the fall mint ones were traditionally the nasty tasting ones, the ones that my family, my only customers, would never buy. But last year...They added icing in the middle, and they're sooo good! Much better than the Chocolate and Vanilla ones...

Oh, and if you're wondering why we don't come door to door anymore, it's because most of us are boycotting it...I hate cookie blitzing!! Going to people's houses, trying to look innocent, and then they slam the doors on you...It hurts. And then you feel sorry of all the people with diabetes...And one dude told me that his pancreas or something would explode...
It's rought being a Girl Guide, trying to sell cookies. O.o

Mr. James : Not even.
Dave : I''m sitting on a rather sharp tack.
Mr. James : That's gotta hurt.
Dave : Well, life's a bitch...
Mr. James : ...And then you die.
Dave : My...
Mr. James : ...oh...
Dave : ...my.

Thin Mints are gifts from heaven.

A woman was selling those at the elementary school at which I intern, and I wanted to buy some thin mints but was broke at the time =( I was greatly saddened.

For more information on the G.T.S.T.M.N (Give Tiff Some Thin Mints Now) foundation, PM me. I'm more than willing to receive Thin Mints in the mail....=D

...they think I'm joking, don't they.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

B-but, that's part of the tradition! Girl Scouts are supposed to be tough to stand up to stuff like that! Plus, I would gladly buy ten boxes of Girl Scout Cookies! Actually, my mother would probably end up buying them since she's the one with the money at the time, but I'd still want to have some Girl Scouts at my front door! I'd like to see at least one more Girl Scout at my front door before I die for old time's sake...

I LOVE the Thin Mints. We also got the Tagalongs and shortbread cookies this year. My mom LOVES shortbread. Usually the thin mints are gone first, then any other cookies. Mmm...thin mints...

And Neo Dead Moon, I shall also question your sanity.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

I'm addicted to the Dosidos myself..you know, those little oatmeal ones with the peanut butter filling. I was sad when they discontinued my other favorite cookie, "Snaps" (The little iced ginger cookies) and replaced it with Double Chocolate, I believe. I notice they tend to discontinue certain cookie flavors as soon as they're out there, since when I was in Brownie/Junior scouts, I got to go around selling them. Eventually I left though, since I made the ultimate mistake of going on one of their camping trips, and after what I went through there, I decided to leave..Um, back to cookies now..These are the flavors I sold when I was in Girl Scouts:

Samoas

Thin Mints (These were popular)

Tagalongs

Dosidos (My favorite!)

Trefoils

Snaps (Another favorite..)

Chalet Cremes (These were little sandwich cookies with lemon creme in the middle..)

Juliettes (Chocolate with hazelnut filling, these got discontinued fast..They were in the 'aqua' box..)

Le Chip (The replacement cookie for "Juliette". Chocolate chip cookie with chocolate drizzled on the bottom..)

Nowadays, I see that "Le Chip", "Chalet Cremes", and "Snaps" have gone away, and cookies such as "Double Chocolate" and "All Abouts" have since replaced them..*sighs* If only they kept Snaps..

I still can't believe that they got rid of Aloha Chips. (For those of you who don't know what they are-really yummy cookies with macadamia nuts!!) I swear, I'm going to blackmail the cookie company.

My sister Caro, who's a girl scout, says that there are some cookies that they aren't allowed to get rid of. From what I remember, they're-

Thin mints
Tagalongs
Trefoils
Samoas
Dosidos

That's all I remember. That's mean. I wish that they WOULD get rid of thin mints...
Tiff, I am willing to take my sister's thin mints and send them to you. Of course, she'd kill me. Oh well. ;)

It's weird, because the girl scouts in my neighborhood seem to have no problem going door to door.. And sometimes, more than once ^^; And then the younger ones get their siblings to sell em at school to all the faculty and students, so they'll be around for a couple of months.

I am addicted to trefoils..@_@ And before it was the Chalet Cremes. No one in my family can really stand eating Thin Mints for too long (after the first pack, they just become...bleah) yet my mom buys some every year. We still have a box and ½ from last year! go figure.

I personally hate Samoas. They are the worst IMO.

*does a little dance* we already have our girlscout cookies. They came yesterday. It's so funny, I'm reading this post, and there are a BUNCH of names of cookies I've never heard of, and what you call them aren't what we call them...example: the samoas...they're called Carmel Delites, and the Trefoils, those are just shortbread cookies. I do not like Thin Mints. I hate mint. bleah. They did get this new kind, called Pinatas, they're uberyummy. Best. Cookies. Ever. Well, no. The Peanut Butter Patties might be the best.
The Girlscouts here still go door-to-door because we're in a small town. We often have 3 or 4 girls come to our door, and we always buy from all of them. The same with Boyscouts and their popcorn.
And then the younger ones get their siblings to sell em at school to all the faculty and students, so they'll be around for a couple of months.
When I was in Scouts, my mom took my order form to work with her, then so did my dad. We sold a freakin' crapload o' cookies that year. I got like the all-time cookie selling record or something. There were boxes as big as computer boxes in our kitchen FULL of them. It was ridiculous. My mom tells me that they aren't allowed to do that any more (no one is, actually, for any fundraiser, apparently). I don't know why. Also, going door-to-door is discouraged nowadays for lots of fund raisers. My little sister was doing jump rope for heart (which has changed a LOT since I was in it), and it said in big letters on the top NOT to go door to door. I thought that was so stupid, cuz, man, that's how you get the moneys. Moneys for the prizes.

Heh, it's not like I'm gonna eat them. :)
I don't know when we get ours...my sister has GS on Mondays, and every monday I ask, "Hey Caro, do you know when the cookies are coming?" And she says "No, and stop calling me Caro!" But my mom said we're getting them next week. WOOHOO!!!
I don't think I can live without getting a tagalong in the next month.
