Exactly. I think Celexa was aiming more toward the lines of someone who just..RANDOMLY jumps up, raises her hand, and a huge beam of light strong enough to wipe out all of europe appears in her palm, and she shoots it at the enemy, declaring her love for her friends, etc, etc. Then she gets all overwhelmed and confused about her powers, but yet, she still has them, and there are no consequences whatsoever. In other words, it's the perfect "magic girl awakening" scenario.

Okay, I misunderstood. I wouldn't like that kind of character either, and I agree that's obnoxious.

Yeah, I hate that, too. Sometimes I frustrate myself with my bad RPing. I'm sure you've noticed that Shi-Tou is not even REMOTELY in-character anymore. Tiff's helping me get back on track. =P I'm sorry. I'm making a journal for her to get inside her head more.

And no, Shi-Tou is not that stereotype. As Tiffu said, she doesn't have all this extreme power. Besides, with all the angst coming from Ryoko and Astra (other characters in the RP), we need someone bubbly and fun.

The OOC characters totally get on my nerves.. I started an rpg in a message board I go to for Charmed, and they messed up Phoebe and PAige both! I jsut watned to say, that doen't sound like somethign they'd to at all! The only reason why a character should be OOC is if theya re possessed or under a spell, adn they weren't. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

okay I'm done with that rant lol

Oh and when they join, but then make one post, adn never come back. I'm guilty of doing it sometimes, but it's usually for a good reason, I haven't been online, or soemthign like that. but when they make posts other places on the board, but not in the rp... that's what pisses me off!

Here's one I have: when the GM is a hypocrite. I was in an RPG where the GM had Sailor Senshi she made up for the main characters but said no one else could make up anyone with superhuman or magical powers! And she wouldn't let me make a fat Japanese girl who was 6 feet tall...the fat part was okay but not 6 feet tall, which isn't that weird a height.

Characters that will never admit they don't understand what's going on in a conversation or RP. I mean, really, if you just stepped in to a room with people screaming at each other left and right, act confused. Don't just start interrupting and trying to "make everything better" and shove your justice or whatever down people's throats.

Hm...reading this is actually funny. I just got into rping about 5 months ago. I'm still learning as I go, I have been told by my best friend that I'm no longer a newbie! ::does the happy dance:: But what you guys are saying, I see a lot. On the Gundam site I rp on we have one guy who is a werewolf who is a Gundam pilot with crazy ass stats!! I hate it when your battling someone and they want to do one hit kills. WTF??? Then go about saying they are the stuff cause they killed you in one hit. Yeah anywho, I saw someone talking about D&D and I wanted to share this flash movie. Enjoy...later gators

ya know whats worse? godkillers! I HATE THEM!! players who show up without permission from the GMs or the creator, and isnt even on the GM squad, and just attacks players for just making a second wind. I saw in a few games I RPed in, two characters were having a HUGE extremely powerful struggle, one would fire a huge blast, and the other would do the same, both are matched, posting that they're getting exausted, then both characters fall over, and relax for some time, peace reigns for some time, then when the protaginist, and antagonist stand up after a rest period and get their second wind, this pompus jerk jumps in and posts "I charge in silently killing both fighters, and leave without a trace ha ha ha ha ha". thats really annoying, I banned the same godkiller more than 18 times! and they kept comming back! it's REALLY annoying with "godkillers". they dont make the game fair for anyone but themselves! W-TF!!

ugh... Totally agree on the Attention whores... er hogs... er... you know what i mean lol. There's a charrie in an RPG Is so whoreish, she throws herself at this one character all the time... is brought out ONLY when that character is brought into the RP, and then ONLY calls for him when he's in the middle of something... like a private moment with the character he's dating at the time... annoying!

Another one... People who use internet lingo, and misspell things right and left seemingly "'Cause they can" Such as this:
roxi:: laughs : yea ... well i am ... : looks over at him .. smiles : i'll brb : gets up goes to her room and slides her jeans off and puts on he shorts and puts on a loose shirt to get more comfortable ... pulls her hair up ... the walks back down the stairs goes to the frig an gets another coke ... and then walks back in to the living room

I am not even kidding, This is taken directly from the RP I play in.... And every post is like this... She can spell comfortable right... but can't spell fridge right???? WTF?!

And I've got to say... all my characters are different... all of them have their quirks obviously... but I think I've got some of the most realistic characters in the RP (even though it is a witch/wizard/demon fantasy rp.. lol)

back on subject: another petpeeve is those players who act like they're the GMs, players who say shit like "if you dont RP this way, you're out" and if you do things the opposite way they dont like, they ignore you and act like your character was dead from the start, I think I beat the hell outa a few, but they deserved it for acting SOOO ANNOYING. I kicked a few out thankfully cuz I was the head GM, kind for the most part, but when the situation calls for it, tough and fair. the players play out the story, not just one. the GMs make the penalties, not other players.

Characters who, no matter what happens to them, are flawless in every physical way. Their hair isn't brown; it's "chestnut". Their eyes aren't green; they're "emerald". They all have big boobs. They're all Cindy Crawford tall and have tiny waists. They all dress to kill, and have the poise of a princess. Make me gag. How about presenting me with someone with a nice, healthy curvy body, about 5 feet 2, short brown hair, and some freckles?

Er, I don't see whats wrong with using words like "Chestnust" or "emberald". In my mind, they are different colors from "Green" or "Brown". I see people who don't like Mary-sues, but being anti-description is alittle strange. I also don't see problems with beautiful charaters. Most people prefer to roleplay as beautiful people. IMO anyways.
I dispisde some people who roleplay. Most of them fall under super Mary sue cliche's. I can deal with Being beautiful,talented and well liked, but give them some flaws please. This one place I went to roleplay had all the girls just dodge and attack people 24/7. They act like they own the place -__-. And they call me a Mary Sue >_> Last time I cheeked my charater had a illness, is a horrible fighter and is only good in defensive spells.
Another thing I hate about roleplaying are the creators of it who only want there charater to be powerful. Just yesterday I got into a huge arguement about how my charater was too perfect (The one I mentioned above). And then a bunch of people from the anti-mary sue commity there all agreed with her. It takes alot and I mean ALOT to make me cry, but they brought me to tears.

Wow I cant believe I missed this post. As an avid gamer and roleplayer I will agree to a certain extend with Tiffs arguement. But I look at it this way alot of people use Role play to escape the real world so they tend to go over the top. I use myself as an example in dungeons and dragons and in online muds I tend to favore elfs (though not drow because I dont believe there is a game system that can truly support a drow character the way I like to play them. I dont like being nice but when your stuck in a party of goodie goodies its kinda pointless to play a Drow or any type character thats inheritly evil. And gah I dont like nice drows Drizzts is enough damn it!) </rant> But for the over sex over pretty I'll admit my first venture in Mud games I went alittle crazy Lack of attention maybe. After I calmed down though and see it was pointless text I realized how ridiculous it was but I can understand why people do that.

As for overly gorgeous once again guilty, as someone who has struggled with self image issues I do tend to make my female character beautiful, whether its the mysterious beauty or the all out drop dead men fall over you appeal I tend to like playing those characters cause in reality I dont feel that way about myself. I cant say this goes for all players I just know from my own experience thats why. Just like I have a pretty friend who goes out of her way to play disfigured characters just cause shes sick of hearing how good she looks. Though thats the life when your one of only two girls in a group of guy gamers and the only one who really held any true appeal lol.

Either way I guess it all depends on the format of the Roleplay right now im deep into my Baldur's Gate series again and im enjoying the flirting and losing myself in a fictional character I think breaks from reality help those of us whose reality isnt so great cut loose so if people tend to act stupid I think thats the main reason why. But its only my opinion on that.

I'm pointing out beautiful chars that HAVE NO FLAWS. Which you, yourself pointed out JUST after quoting me and disagreeing. Oy. -_-
And one can be perfectly descriptive without replacing EVERY descriptive adjective with a fancier word. Using the word "chestnut" once in place of brown is one thing. It's when people whip out the thesaurus and start replacing every adjective with a longer, fancier version of the word. Example?

before: She had long brown hair and bright green eyes. She was curvy and tall, with nicely toned legs.

After: She had cascading waves of chestnut locks, and her emerald almond-shaped eyes were glittering, like jewels. She held an hourglass form, and was shapely, her legs perfectly shaped and seeming to go on forever.

I'd much rather read the first, rather than waste my time with the second, k thx.

In a similar vein to what Tiff mentioned earlier in the thread, I have a couple big pet peeves from the Star Wars RP site I'm a staff member on.

There's one guy who has so little imagination when it comes to creating characters that he'll take his favorite character(s) from his current favorite console RP or anime, change their names, slightly change their weapons, add some rather asinine feats to them (poisoned blood, anyone?) and use them as his RP characters. It's so uncreative, not to mention just annoying. He even uses "Auldrant", the world in Tales of the Abyss as the name for a new SW planet in our RP. Oy.

Overpowered characters are always an irritant of mine; doubly so in Star Wars when you have Force users. This same guy has one of his characters being able to use a crystal to unleash massively powerful Force attacks. When I PM'ed him to ask if he thought he was overdoing things a bit, he explained it away by saying she "didn't know how to control them and would learn to do so in time". Somehow, I didn't really believe him.
