Bit Torrent

Post by Celexa » Fri Jan 16, 2004 9:45 pm

I want to download BitTorrent for various music and movies, but after I download, the ZIP file, there isn't any file for me to install BitTorrent to my computer or ANYTHING! Can someone please help me?

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

Go here: http://download.com.com/3000-2196-10234 ... ag=lst-0-1
Click the download now link, click open when a dialogue box pulls up. Once it is done downloading, a new dialogue box will appear a few moments later saying Bit Torrent is now installed and redirect you to a donation page.
Bit Torrent isn't a download program like KaZaA or WinMX where you type something in and it finds the files for you, it's more like a peer to peer download enhancer you use to get file's off of people's webpages.

EDIT: I'm having more problems with it! After I downloaded PGSM, I tried to open it as the avi file, but it won't open with Media Player, Quicktime, or RealPlayer. It says there was an error in coding ore something. I can hear it, but I can't watch it. Help!

If you can hear it, but can't watch it, you may not have all the proper codecs installed, so make sure to check to see if you do.

I had the same problem too, you need Divx player or ashampoo player. www.download.com has those too.

Download the DefilerPak found at http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak/ to keep up to date with the latest codecs and whatnot.

VLC - http://www.videolan.com - works really well for playing all sorts of media. If you can't get the codecs to work, you might try it. It's my favorite media player. :)

Hehe don't forget, either, that those files are actually xvid and not divx ^^;; (when xvid is kinda like ogg compared to mp3 for audio ^^ )

I know that this thread is REALLY old, but BitTorrent and I are having a difference of opinions.

Whenver I try to download a new episode, I get this error:

trouble accessing files - [Errno 13] Permission denied 'C:\\My Documents\\PGSM Episodes\\[T-N]bishoujo_senshi_sailor_moon_act.04[Xvid5FBDAD52).avi'

I tried doing it with an old episode that's already been downloaded 100%, and I got this error:

Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error (10057, 'Socket is not connected')>

I'm trying to download Act Three from Tv-Nihon. Can someone please help me?

I'd say delete the file you have and then downloading it again. If it does it again, maybe it's the torrent file's fault.

You may also want to try a different client. I like the Burst client, available here. But it sounds like a network problem, so maybe it won't work.

There's also a Yahoo group dedicated to BT problems here. Maybe they can help more than we can.

It's all fixed now. I think my computer was messed up that day, because now I'm downloading happily now. But I'd like to ask a quick question: WHY does it take so long to download? I can download a full episode (I did on my server when I changed a file extension) for much quicker than BitTorrent does it. Also, I've heard that the faster it goes, the more people are downloading...that doesn't make sense to me either.

Simple, the distribution of files through the forms of BitTorrent rely on users to be sharing that file. If more people are sharing a file (keeping the window open), it means there are more people to download the parts of a file from. Less people with the window open = less speed, simple as that.
