And i'm with Tempest. It's not the anime bit that bugs me..it's what it's COUPLED with: the valley girl-ness, the ridiculous, idiotic dialog, and the bad choice of programming aimed at girls.

You know what's surprising? I've heard Totally Spies has really GOOD ratings on CN.
NOT. GOOD.

I like Teen Titans. The fact that it is anime-esque doesn't offend me or anything. After all, is imitation not the best form of flattery? Besides, it's really funny, and the characters are done very well. (Raven is t3h kickass!) I don't like Totally Spies (Cartoon Network, either 4 or 4:30 {right before Toonami}, and then at 7 {I'm not sure about this one, but I'm pretty sure it comes on then}) for the same reasons that Tempest and Tiff mentioned. I'm so tired of seeing all these girls on cartoons (anime and non) that are always ditzy, bubbly, and stupid. It's disgusting. It teaches younger girls that this is how they're supposed to act when they become teenagers.

Oh, I just like the way it was drawn. I sort of don't mind the fact that it's ripping off anime. And the theme song is ahem, well, catchy...=O

I'm fairly sure CN is only running Totally Spies at this point in a weak attempt to compete with the ratings for Kim Possible.

It's not an insult to the Japanese. All cartoons are classified as anime to the Japanese. It's the non-Japanese fans who make the distinction between Japanese and non-Japanese cartoons.

Whoa, Chill. Their is no reason to get so mad. I can see where it gets lame and frustrating, but you don't need to bust a vien.

I've seen Jackie Chan Adventures since it original aired on KidsWB a few years back, it's always had Face-faultes. It's not something new as a ratings ploy. It's been going on before the craze. I doubt that was influenced completely by anime. Have you ever seen a Jackie Chan movie? He is very livly and animated in them. The way he moves, bounces around, even the look on his face sometimes reminds you of a cartoon.

I never said that you couldn't have your opinion. I merely stated that anime encompasses all cartoons to the Japanese. You said it was an insult to the Japanese, not yourself. Had you said it insulted you, I wouldn't have replied. And how did they take credit for something they didn't create? They created Totally Spies, which is a cartoon, and therefore anime. Would you be offended if Hayao Miyazaki said he created a cartoon? What's the difference there?

I completely agree. Dinozore also commented about this. The Japanese didn't create cartoons. I can't speak for all countires that draw their own styles of cartoons, but America has been drawing cartoon since the early 1900's, where as Japanese animators didn't start animating until 1950-60, correct me if I'm wrong on the dates. They adapted cartoons to their own style. That style became Japanese Animation. Then anime, for short. As much as I love anime it is still a cartoon. It just varies in style comapred to american-style cartoons.

::edit:: Whoa. I relized I was going a bit off topic. Getting back on.
I don't mind the Japanese Anime influences in american cartoon provided that they don't send the wrong message to their target audiances.

Tempest and ParaKiss, I completely agree with you two.
Some of you need to calm down. NOW. Before things get out of hand.

The only new cartoons that don't have some sort of anime influence tehse days are Justice League/Batman/etc(the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini stuff) which is meant to look more like 50s artwork, and few others. Though Teen Titans is Timm meets anime.

Kim Possible is another good one. Stylistically, it reminds me of Kevin Smith's animated Clerks series without thick lines around everyone.

Yes, and I apolagize If iI came on as rude... althoguh this didnt cut it, I had a very bad day today. YEah, Tempest your right about the dates, but PK waht I ment was that they took the anime trademarks and didnt give any credit to the japanese... It's kinda like Martha Steward in my opinion, they shoudl at least say taht it has charactoristics that they copied and took it as theirs. I do have some japanese friends that like and are craetign their own anime and manga's, and they got pretty upset about the fact that Marathon animation is coping anime.

I don't want to make it seem like I'm attacking you over the subject, but getting made oversomething like this doesn't make sense.

Alot of my drawn artwork has many anime influences, big eyes the hair, but I don't credit anime. I learned to draw by many different anime/cartoons I've seen. I've incooperted little bits of everything to develope my own style. Yes, anime was a big part of devlopment and I acknowlage that, but I'm not going to credit various animes when I had to learn to draw everything for myself.
If your fimiloar with anime, then you can tell some animes were influenced by it.
As far as I'm concerned on the matter, They adopted the anime style, they didn't steal it. Repeating what Tiff, PK, Dinozore and I said; you might was well get pissed off with anime creators adopting the idea of animation. It's hypocritical to call North American animtion companies thieves when the Japanese did it also. All it boils down to is a difference in style.

We may not like it that NA Animtors are starting to draw with anime characteristics, but no one is stealing anything. Sometimes I think it's stupid and unoriginal for people to use anime-esque styles to boost rating or sales, but as long as said cartoon isn't promoting something bad, I can learn to deal with it.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. "Anime" is not an invention. No one person made it up. Anime is a word that the Japanese use that is meant to describe animation. Therefore, THERE'S NOBODY YOU CAN CREDIT.

I watched Teen Titans, and I can honestly say it was amusing, but I still disliked it. They used the anime cues at ALL THE WRONG TIMES in the episode I watched. And Starfighter, that's her name? I felt like it was ripping off Sailor Star Fighter I KNOW IT WASN'T but that's the way I felt in a way. Also when they were playing a song during a chase scene, I caught the word "kawaii." Can someone please tell me what's so cute about a chase scene where the people are about to have their butts handed to them on a plate? I just generally didn't like it. At all. I don't have an opinion on Totally Spies though. I missed it today. (Okay...so it was on purpose...but I missed it all the same!)

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!
