Making Polls

I was wondering how do you make customized polls for websites? I have been searching and searching for poll tutorials but there is not a single good one. I know ASP is involved though. Are there some Javascript versions? Also, the kinds of polls I'm looking for don't include services such as Bravenet, etc. where they put all kinds of pop-up ads
