Hey Everyone,

Okay, this is how I stumbled onto this. I was looking for more information about a new J-pop trio called "Milky Way" (made up of Koharu Kusumi and two other girls from H!P) and I found this: Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls.

They are dolls created by animator Lauren Faust (she's worked on Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends). Another bevy of galactic girls; but instead of powers they all have different talents. I'm not too sure what to think about it now. At first I thought they were just rip-offs of Sailor Moon, but when you read each profile, the characteristics are totally off. I do, however, think that they are a little cute.

What say you?

Looks like any other contrived girl power team to me. They seem pretty flat.

Milky Way
Wow, Milky Way has cream coloured hair. ORIGINALZ

Milky Way is what every girl wants to be and doesn't realize she already is.

Fucked up sentence ahoy! Milky Way represents all girls, because all girls everywhere want the same thing, but she doesn't realize. That means she's HUMBLE and so totally NOT a Mary-Sue :D

When she's back in our solar system, her entourage the Galaxy Girls, are waiting eagerly to hear about her spectacular space oddsseys.

Milky Way doesn't give a shit about what her friends entourage do in their spare time though.

The Sun
I love it when creators give their characters creative and original names.

With the word "HOT" plastered across her top, this solar super star is sure to let every one know she is the hottest act to hit this side of the galaxy!

Words on a shirt mean a lot these days. I saw a fugly chick with a beard at the mall wearing a shirt that said "Pornstar" so it must be true.

Mercury
Mother of God look at her hair.

Her winged sneaker-skates.

I don't even know which word to emphasize. Winged. Sneaker. Skates.....SNEAKER...SKATES! One of these things is not like the other. All of these things don't belong.

She is always, always working out and exercising hard to keep her status as reigning champion of the galaxy!

Looks like every one of them is the best in the galaxy. It's like those high schools that select twenty Valedictorians.

Venus

Just when I thought Milky Way was the Alpha Mary-Sue of the group. Venus, the goddess (another point for originality) has a bio that's nothing but raw sue-age.

The Moon

The Moon's emotions change as surely as the tides.

I'm sure there's medication for that.

Though her mood swings can be unpredictable, this girl's emotional lunar cycle is the foundation BLAH BLAH FUCKING TRAGIC SOUL OH WOE IS ME LAMENT FOLLOWED BY SOME SUPER SUCKY ALITERATION!

Sounds like she's just having her Lunar Cycle. Drink some cranberry juice and you'll be fine.

Her undeniable talent almost makes her moodiness bearable...almost!

Trivializing mental health problems? Nah, self-diagnosed depression makes you special!

Mars
Wow, it's Martian.

Painting, sculpture, collage, you name it! And you've never seen anything like it before, and certainly never will again!

Yeah, like when Andy Warhol did pop culture art, no one ever did anything like that afterwards. Salivdor Dali did trippy paintings that never inspired anybody else to do similar art. And Escher? FIRST and LAST illusionist artist. Sandro Del-Prete doesn't exist.

Jupiter

She is also very spiritual, always striving to become one with the universe.

Wow, the vaguely East Indian Chick cares about the enviroment and is spiritual and wants to be one with the universe. I'm suprised she isn't lighting incense and shaking a tamborine.

Saturn
I can't help but notice that she has a lot of purple on her. That seems familar.

Everyone knows that Saturn is famous for her rings--and her ear rings, nose ring, belly button ring--

What, no nipple ring? She ain't hard core, she's a poser!

Uranus
Apple ear rings....I'm suprised they don't have a worm in them. And I love how she has her glasses on her HEAD (because we have to follow stereotypes like a recipe for beer chicken), but I guarantee will barely wear them, if at all. Everyone knows wearing glasses makes you ugly. They're like a removeable disfigurement. FOR YOUR FACE.

Neptune
I see Michiru got a haircut.

Pluto
I wear black clothes, have pale skin, listen to heavey metal, and wear skulls and spikes. I AM HARD CORE! Like every other goth and punk.

Geez, Johnny Rotten and Siouxsie Sioux would be rolling in their graves if they were dead. Although I'm sure they die a little inside everytime they see how conformist goth and punk has become.

I especially love Milkey Way, who since she is supposed to represent every girl probably does not have a personality.

Is there the self righteous one that always whines about authority abuse no matter how trivial it is?

How about the Typigoth Pop Hippie that likes to go to Raves in a Pink Poppy Sporty Jersey and painting poetry of beaches? Sounds pretty ridiculous...........

Oh, and when I said cute, I meant in the Powerpuff Girl sort of way.... I wish that would come back out or they release the Z over here in the states......Cartoon Network has such crap on it, but I digress, that's another topic.

Okay, here's a question...If you had a friend or brother/sister/relative that had a little girl who happened to know about MWGG and her birthday was coming up and she wanted a doll, would you buy it for her?

My question is, what do they do? Do they fight evil? Perform in a band? Sit around, paint each others' nails and gossip? They seem pretty useless. It's like they took the idea of Sailor Moon and some of the other magical girl animes, took out everything that made them neat, and gave us this.

(Not to mention Mercury's appearance is pretty much a rip on Ami's. Short blue hair, blue eyes...seems oddly close for it to be a coincidence.)

They really are just all stereotypes. Venus as a "lovely heavenly body", the sun as "the brightest star in the Galaxy", I'm not sure what they were trying for with Milky Way, but okay. And don't get me started on Mars...

I like the inspiration for Saturn.

"Hmm... what personality should we give this girl? Well Saturn has rings around it. We could give her tons of piercings... oh! She'll be punk!"

I think they need more characters. Like...

Earth. Earth loves to be on her computer. She spends 80% sometimes even more of her day playing World of Warcraft. She is the leader of the best guild in the game and has one of the most powerful characters on her server. The other girls do not see her very much, because she would much rather spend her free time chatting to her friends across the world on webforums than with them. And she often forgets to shower. When Earth is extremely bored, she spends her time trolling other message boards to get a laugh. She also has a fetish for hacking.

Ceres- Ceres's dad owns a huge corporation and she hopes to one day take it over. She is a capitalist at heart. She and Jupiter do not get along because Ceres does not have any problem with cutting down the various forests across the galaxy. Oh... and she also doesn't believe in global warming so to her, it is perfectly acceptable to release pollutants into the air.

Charon- Charon comes from a backwater planet. She lives on a moutain top with 15 family members in a small house. She loves to wear overalls, a straw hat, and never shoes. Her favorite meals include squirrel gravey, and possum stew. Her favorite past time includes hunting in the wilderness with her father. And there are also rumers that her mother and father are in fact siblings.

Phobos- being the moon of Mars, you would think that phobos would be artistic, but she is not. She is infact one of the laziest people in the galaxy. She spends most of her days laying on her couch, eating potato chips and watching TV. She is pretty much interested in nothing and has no interest in going out to join a club or a sports team. One would think that she would be quite over weight, but since she is a super special galaxy girl, she gets to keep her slim figure.

Deimos- The other moon to Mars, and for simplicity sake, we'll make her Phobos's twin. She is simular to her twin, but instead of watching TV, she likes to read. She reads and reads all day, but not school books. She loves to read steamy romance that would make her father angry if he new. She hopes to one day write her own sleazy romance novels after she gets real "experience". Since she is a galaxy girl, in the future she will have achieved writing the dirtiest, sleeziest, sexiest, novel the universe has ever laid eyes on!

I tried my best with names.

I think they switched the personalities or should I say attributes of Mercury and Uranus around.

My question is, what do they do? Do they fight evil? Perform in a band? Sit around, paint each others' nails and gossip? They seem pretty useless.

I think they're just dolls that the creator makes. I didn't see anything about a tv show or comic or whatever. But for just the low, low price of $22 you can buy a t-shirt
