Futurama: Bender's Big Score discussion **spoiler warning**

Post by Passions55 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 12:44 pm

Who here saw this premiere on Comedy Central on Easter? I did and I really enjoyed most of it though I was a little put-out by it being broken up into episodes instead of it being shown uninterupted as one continuous movie. For those who saw it what did you think of it?

I got the DVD, so I saw it before it aired on TV (and I didn't watch it that night, either. I was returning from a friend's house at the time it aired.) I personally thought it was hilarious, though for some reason to me it seemed like the part they had with Brannigan coming in to lead everyone in the battle against the nudist-scammer-aliens seemed to have been put in there for no more reason than to have Brannigan in the movie. In other words, it just seemed to be completely pointless to have him in there at all. Maybe that's just me, though.

To be completely honest I enjoyed this film but I was rather annoyed with the whole Leela and Fry business. I was disappointed that after the events in last episode of the series where Fry dedicates an opera to Leela and they have that sweet moment at the end where Leela stays to watch the end and Fry makes a simple but sweet montage of the two of them holding hands and walking away, that Leela had finally accepted Fry.

But it is shown in this movie that Leela, despite everything Fry has done to show his feelings for her, still can't accept Fry for who he is. So what if he's not sophisticated and suave the point is that he loves her. Yeah it was implied that Leela and Fry are pretty much destined for each other, but only it seems if Fry changes himself. It kind of spoiled it for me that Leela won't have Fry for himself unless he changes. At this point I think Fry deserves better than Leela. my two cents.

I saw it first on dvd then decided to see the episodes of it. Nothing really all that different to me. I did like Brannigan being thrown in. Not sure why...maybe I just enjoy seeing him not taken seriously. That and it's funny the humilating things he forces on poor Kif.

Yeah, I agree about the Fry and Leela thing. I was extremely disappointed when I saw that Leela still didn't take Fry seriously and even after that lovely opera. But then again, they did say that time had passed between the opera and the movie so I'm guessing Fry did something stupid that turned Leela off again.

After 3 viewings I'm starting to notice something about them though. It's not so much about Fry changing in a forced way. What Leela is attracted to is the more mature Fry. Fry right now is still immature, but he's growing up. The fact that they hang together and are good friends says a lot right there. And I think the fact that Leela now knows that it was Fry she was in love with, even if it was mature Fry, this should start to help her look past the immature stuff and begin to love him for him. If anything, Lars revealed a lot about what Fry will become as he gets older.

I had a good laugh over how many times that Earth could be scammed. And felt for Hermes. Why does he stay with that woman?

Ah, the Futurama movie. ^_^

I thought it was very funny... from beginning to end. A number of scenes in there I found hystarical because I have listened to their commentaries on other episdoes.

The beginning, ESPICALLY, was awesome. The blatantly OBVIOUS bashing of Fox was awesome, not the subtle versions in the episodes. Plus, the re-occurance of the Executive Powder was brilliant too. And I like Barbados Slim, because it's just SO ABSURD. XD "THe only man to win olympic gold medals in limbo and sex!" Plus, all the scenes with Hermes as the Head, and when Zoidberg puts his 'doomed' body on backwards. Plus, the Harlem Globetrotters are brilliant. "Showboating Globetrotter Calculus!" Bender makes the movie though. HAIL BENDER. XD Because he is, THAT FUNNY. Whenever they break into song is also funny... because again, ABSURDITY. Also, everything with Al Gore. Just hilarious.

As for the Fry/Leela thing... they'll drag it out. we know Fry and Leela end up together, but it's dragged on and on because that's how these things work. Jim/Pam was dragged on for 3 seasons on the Office. It's laws of Television. Oh, and did anyone else have a suspicion that Lars was Fry initially?

Actually, about half way through my first viewing, I started to wonder if Lars might somehow turn out to be Fry. But I couldn't prove it, so I just sat back and waited for the surprise.

I loved the Fox bashing. That just made my day. It's always fun to see how a show really feels about being jerked around. Please, Bender is always the greatest! I love how he manipulates even when manipulated. You gotta love it! Kind of weird to see Santa so vulnerable. But I love the vehicles for the holidays. I thought the scene with Hermes taking control of the fight was just so awesome!!

Yeah, I can totally believe that they are going to drag the Fry and Leela thing out and out and out. It brings a lot of viewers back for more.
