Canadian Dollar near parity to US Dollar
In early November 2001, the US Dollar was worth a 1.60 Canadian dollars. (1 $US = 1.602 $CAN)
Today, the US dollar is worth less than 3 cents more than the Canadian dollar. (1 $US = 1.029 $CAN)
Pretty much since the start of Bush's tenure in office, the U.S. dollar has trended downward, and is close to something I thought I'd never see... being worth less than the Canadian Dollar.

Well I dunno if this helps Aya Reiko's Bush theory, but I tend to think it does.

Is this the sweet sound, that calls the young sailors?
The voice maybe one in the same.
Ive heard it too many times to ignore it,
its something that I sposed to be..

Yeah it totally helps Aya's theory. Greenspan is like the god of the economy lolSenshi_of_Vision wrote:Well I dunno if this helps Aya Reiko's Bush theory, but I tend to think it does.

BUT.....
On the same note, what Bush has done is completely dwarfed by the autopilot monsters that are social security, medicare, and medicaid :\ They take up half, if not more, of the budget every year, and if they aren't fixed soon we're going to amass so much debt that our economy will be on the verge of a severe collapse....
But that's a totally different topic >_> *beats self with the semi-off-topic stick*

To me it kinda feels like a blow to our whole Economic superpower status, but lets face it the Yen and Euro has had us running for our money and beat for awhile now. It doesnt suprize me that Canada's money is finally gaining equal status because the country is working on builiding up their economic status. Till our country starts focusing more on our own internal problems and stop trying to police the world the value of the dollar will keep getting owned by other currencies. Im not too worried about the Canada thing though its not like the dollar will go the way of the Rubble or Peso it just means in the grander scale flashing dollars in other countries wont be such a big deal anymore.

It doesn't really mean much, but it does give an indication of how much an american dollar is worth to the world community, and usually its best for it to be worth more. If its worth less then that means the economy isn't as strong compared to other countries.Neon Heart wrote:So I don't understand. What difference does it make if our dollar is worth less or more than another country's dollar?

Uh, sorry about your economy and all, but needless to say a lot of people are happy here. It'd be nice to buy stuff on Amazon.com and not have to give an arm just to cover the difference in currency (Amazon.ca sucks).
You guys aren't welcome here....unless you bring beer. Good beer. We're totally Canada's Mexico.

Maybe that would encourage the U.S. to import less and export more so we don't have such a monstrous trade deficit.Aya Reiko wrote:It means importing stuff could possibly cost more.
Then again, my opinion is far from official. The only thing I know about economics and trade is what I've learned from city-building games. >_>;

Problem is do we even manufacture anything anymore? Most of those jobs have been shipped off to Mexico or China.NameGoesHere wrote:Maybe that would encourage the U.S. to import less and export more so we don't have such a monstrous trade deficit.Aya Reiko wrote:It means importing stuff could possibly cost more.

Some stuff is still manufactured in the US... somewhere... I think.Aya Reiko wrote:Problem is do we even manufacture anything anymore? Most of those jobs have been shipped off to Mexico or China.
. . .
I wonder, does a country stop being an industrialized nation once it's outsourced all of its industries?
