Um, no. Kill Bill is an homage to spaghetti westerns and kung-fu movies. It did not start out as a Japanese movie.

I went to HMV and I SAW the Japanese movie sitting on the shelf, right BESIDE the Kill Bill movie. It had the exact same cover art and everything. I just can't remember the title.

Yes, because that couldn't just be the Japanese release of the movie, could it? Kill Bill is American. Quentin Tarantino wrote the script. He and Uma Thurman CAME UP WITH THE IDEA WHILE WORKING ON PULP FICTION.

And what the hell is HMV?

Sweetie...

http://www.jlist.com/SEARCHES/japan_kill_bill/

Scroll down until you see the kill bill DVD with japanese characters on the back.

Then, I quote: "Last year when Kill Bill Vol. 1 hit movie theaters across the globe, the world was in awe of the cinematic treat that Quentin Tarantino had in store for them. In Japan, this thrill was increased one hundred fold that not only was part of this great film animated in Japan, but that the Japanese were to get an unedited version of the movie for their theaters.
Now that this legend in its own time hits DVDs, the world has a chance to own a copy of the original movie as it was intended to be seen by audiences by the director himself."

It didn't START OUT as a Japanese film. They merely got an unedited version, which isp robably what you saw on the shelf.

http://jeansnow.net/2003/10/24/japanese ... kill-bill/

Still don't believe it? click the link above. It's a japanese VERSION, with no cuts, unlike our version. But the movie isn't ORIGINALLY a japanese one, or a japanese concept. As Parakisu said, it plainly says on the DVD that Tarantino wrote the script and came up with the idea with Uma.

It had a different title. "Kill M_____" I can't remember the Japanese name. It was a box set containing two DVDs. Looking back on it now, I'm not really sure what it was.

Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh. I take it that you guys don't have HMV in the US? HMV is a store like A&B Sound. They sell CD's, DVD's and the like. HMV used to have it's own website, but then they joined in with Amazon.

There's even a Japanese website --------> www.hmv.co.jp

It was probably an older movie that helped inspire the idea. Quentin chose a lot of specific movies to incorporate, and that may have been one of them.

No, I didn't see your reply, since I was typing that up ^_^;;;

That's definately not the one I saw on the shelf. I'm not saying that I don't believe you, but the one I saw on the shelf had different cover art. It may have been a parody of Kill Bill. I have no idea.

EDIT: head * desk head*desk...

I completely missed your reply, Parakisu, when I was typing this one up. You do have a good point there too. Next time I go, I'll make a mental note of the title and come back to this.

-_- I honestly think you were mistaken, hun...I'm sure it was either a Japanese import, or something completely different. Just becuase it had the word "Kill" in it doesn't mean it was Kill Bill o_O; it coul dhave been ANY Japanese movie with the word "Kill" in it.

But it had the black and yellow color scheme and everything. There's no way you could mistake something like that. The cover art was nearly exactly alike with the exception of the title. But like Parakiss said, it may have been an older movie which inspired the Kill Bill movies in the first place.

Okay, it's beginning to get rather chat room like, so let it be dropped now, or someone else speak.

WHAT THE FREAKING HELL.

The Japanese got an unedited version while we got an edited version??? THAT IS F'ED UP ROYALLY. I'm so freaking pissed right now. I wouldn't be pissed if they just re-edited those scenes back in for the DVD release, but they didn't, those BASTARDS.

I hate Quentin Tarrantino. He can kiss my royal hairy butt. He just conned us all into buying Volume 1 and 2 and then he'll probably release a "Special edition" and take ANOTHER 40 bucks from our wallets.

I hope he and his studio (what was this movie published under? Miramax?) die and burn in hell. Money hungry jerks. *is so pissed can't even think straight*

Sorry, but as the site that we're on right now will testify, I don't like getting "watered down" versions of ANYTHING.

Excatly why I haven't bought either of the DVDs yet, I know that this will be milked for all it's worth, and that they will eventually have a special edition with both volumes in it. So no purchase from me until it comes out, since given the popularity of the film, it's a given. I do have to disagree with you about getting conned out of your money though, no one forced you to buy the discs right when they came out. It's common practice for things like this to happen with popular titles, you decided to give in to the first releases rather than wait to see if there might be a special combined one in the future. Other than that, I agree with you. Having an editted down version sux ass so I hope the almost guranteed special editions have the uncut. If not, then I'm just gonna get the R2s.

While this does run a little off topic, that's exactly what I did with the LOTR trilogy. I didn't buy any of the DVDs, hoping that a box set will be released. Whether or not there will be a box set released for LOTR, I don't know, but whenever a series of movies like this comes out, I always wait and see if a box set is released.

and Dan is right...nobody forced you to buy anything. And you can buy the unedited version, SUBBED DVD online. I've looked it up. Also, there IS a boxset with the unedited version in it.

I like that they're putting out all these versions. I don't buy a lot of movies, but when I see a really good one, I'm actually happy to know my money is going to enrich the people who brought it about.
So I'll probably be buying a special edition not only to get the extra stuff but to bump Tarantino's numbers and maybe convince people to give him more budget to make movies.

*points upward* I'm with most of ya...I have yet to see either volume, but I intend to rent them sometime...and then wait to see if they DO get released unedited here in the states if I enjoy them enough. Rare is the sight lately where I purchase a movie, so if it's good enough (and the reviews in this thread have indicated as such), I'll more likely than not have to pick them up.

Right now, however, I must concentrate on the Transformers G1 DVD sets...</off-topic>

Alright, maybe they shouldn't die, but I still think Miramax (or whatever the company is) is a bit evil. You know they're just doing this to con people like me who don't know that there's an unedited version.

In fact, I despise the whole idea of government/business telling me what I can and cannot view. "Land of the Free"..............hah. While America is the most free country arguably in the world (and i don't take that for granted, don't miscontrue me), we're hardly as free as I think the forefathers intended.

In fact, the country is hardly ran as how the forefathers intended, but that's another topic.

Here's a more specific example of what an ethically CLEAN way to release a DVD is.....Lord of the Rings.

There was the theatrical release and also a HIGHLY publicized Extended release. There was no secret that there was an extended release, while with Kill Bill, I had no clue AT ALL, almost as if it was somewhat of a secret. Also, there were benefits of buying both the theatrical and extended versions of LotR, as they had completely different bonus features. Kill Bill had next to no extra features (can't comment on Vol. 2).
