Warning to ANY member who posts spoilers to Harry Potter

Post by AnimeGuru0 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 10:06 am

This is a friendly warning to all members of the SMU forums about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which comes out in less than 48 hours.

Considering how huge this release will be and how many members of the forums are fans of the series and do not want anything spoiled, the posting of spoilers will be strictly prohibited.

Anyone who posts spoilers to the book that are not in spoiler tags and/or are in a thread not dedicated to the Deathly Hallow book or a Harry Potter thread will be INSTANTLY and PERMANANTLY banned and their post deleted. No questions asked. Many people have waited over 10 years for this, so please be respectful of those people.

Also, on a more personal level, I ask that everyone kinda wait a few days (maybe Monday or Tuesday) before even posting about the book, your thoughts, reviews, etc. Even in the appropriate thread, in spoiler tags, sometimes you accidently come across a spoiler without realizing it. So to prevent accidently spoiling the book for someone else, I ask that everyone hold off until everyone has had a chance to read the book before posting about it. This of course can not and will not be enforced, but it's just a simple request to the SMU community.

Thank you, happy reading :)

Just an added pointer I suggest avoiding gameFAQs forums until you've read the book.

Last time those forums were flooded with spoilers about 5 minutes after the book was released. The spoilers were unavoidable too because titles of posts were spoilers.

I advise everyone to just stay away from the internet in general. If you go to, say, IMDb to talk about a Harry Potter movie, you know FOR SURE people will be talking about the book, and there will be those jackbutts who will make big spoilers in titles, and also newbs who don't know any better forgetting to post warnings. And saying, "Aw great thanks for spoiling it, you asshole!" won't revert the probelm, so I say just prevent it in the first palce.

Avoid places like YouTube as well.

Good thinking, Bob. I sure as hell don't want it spoiled for me.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Why make it a sticky when they could make it a Global Annoucement? Just to make sure everyone sees it.

No real need as it will only be relevant for the next few weeks. Just keep it bumped =P

I'm pretty much staying away from the internet for a few days. Last time a HP book came out, it got totally ruined for me. People think it's FUNNY to spoil a book -_-

I'm another one who'll be avoiding the internet until I've finished Harry Potter. I hate spoilers!

I remember HBP got spoiled on a My Little Pony board. o__0 I already read the book, but that was just *wrong*.
I would even avoid places like MySpace and LiveJournal, in case your friends want to post a spoiler or you read comments talking about it.
Yes...I'll definitely stay off the computer for a couple days, at least. =P

Glad to see this is here.

Hopefully nobody read the "review" from the Baltimore Sun that was run in many newspaper nationwide. Pretty much ruined the ending.

Nay, this is the first I have heard of this Baltimore Sun review.
