Queen of Hearts
maybe in your eyes I am still 'immature' and a 'child',but compared to the kids where I live, I'm the oppisite. You don't see me out there, chasing boys at school and fussing over the dance. I don't really wear slutty clothes (more like somthing really stange and out there.) By the time I was 12 my body was fully mature (I never said that my mind was) All the other girls fussed over how big their boobs where when I wished I didn't have big ones @_@
I do alot of things around the house, I love my parents and I take care of my siblings. I don't read magazines, I read books. I grew up sheltered and alone. I never even knew the kids who lived next door to me and I didn't even know how to ride a bike before I turned 9. I stayed inside and studied. I don't even think I had more than 3 friends when I was young. I don't know how to interact with people my age. (Maybe thats why all my friends are hi8ghschool students (the mature ones)).
Maybe in your eyes I'm immature, but atleast my parents and friends think I have a shread of maturity in me. Because, not every single child in the world is immature.
And I never once said I wanted to grow up faster.
No offence, but reviving a month old thread to tell us we're wrong and that you're mature because you read books and are a non-comformist, unlike "Teh Popular Kids!" is the last thing that's going to prove you're mature. It sounds like half the people on myspace.

I read books instead of magazines, I never went outside, I STILL don't know anyone on my street, or around my house, I studied, and I spent the majority of my childhood with NO friends. Occasionally I had one friend, but they either A) moved, of B) stopped talking me. Take it from someone who's been there; you still have a lot of maturing to do.

Queen of Hearts , this thread is not about you. The simplest way I can say this? Get over it. Seriously. Either get back on the topic of society's standards, or leave the thread. You've defended yourself enough, we get it.
Everyone, back on topic.

After having to go relax and calm down from the whole Abortion post I started seriously thinking. And I have to add this to this thread a social standard that has always bugged me is the attitude towards life in general. I think its funny how some people will defend one aspect of life but treat other aspects as irrelevant. I put in the abortion thread that I am pro choice because of the choice people as individuals should have the right to make for their own bodies. But it doesnt mean I have to support what they do with said bodies, and as long as it does not harm me and mine I tend not to think to much about it.
I guess it bothers me that so many people refuse to see the act of abortion as taking a life. It may not be walking or talking but since when does that only classify what is alive? It boggles my mind that anyone can try to desensitize the situation by saying "oh its only a fetus" um hello you were a fetus once to. And you know what without being one you would not be walking and talking. I also consider pro lifers (some not all) to be hypocritical at times to. There are some that try their hardest to be true pro life but it can be hard. I know I could never be pro life not because I think abortion is right or wrong, but because I believe in things like an eye for and eye the death penalty. I have had critters exterminated to keep my home free from pest and will continue to do so if they plague me. And I do see that a proceedure like abortion is sometimes needed. But for health and safety reasons are the few reasons I see the proceedure as "Justifiable." But it does involve exterminating a living thing.
Just like with the death penalty, I dont think I like the thought of someone having power to take anothers life. And when you put it that way if someone asked me that kind of question I think id say no, until I hear it was a mass murder a child killer or a person responsible for mass genocide. Then in my mind it because Justifiable for someone to be put to death, but its still me condoning the taking of a live. Its the same as the people who slaughter animals for meat. And pest control who exterminate bugs and vermin. They are causing mass death of a species to. But said vermin can cause problems for us humans so they justify the deaths threw that. And as ominvores we justify the consumption of meats to keep alive. So I do see the reasoning behind justifiable killing. But extermination in any form is taking a life and now adays many dont flinch at it and that bothers me.
I'll admit as a human ive often come under the haughty attitude of survial of the fittest. But I am truly bothered that many think that Life revolves around us only. As if Humans are the only thing that can dictate which part of life is important, or what part of life is significant. Its like an author I once read said "the only reason why we are still top of the food chain is because we can pretty much kill the only other species opposing us." And you know what our asses can be beat by a life form that is as big as the head of a pin (Ie germs and bacteria) so how important does that make us in the grand scheme? Im sorry if this is long winded but It just bothers me what some classify as Life. I understand that there is no one right view on how to live but it still disturbs me the lack of thought for other life forms and how some do not batt an eye at the thought of a life being destroyed as long as there is a justified reason for it. Im not trying to put myself on a pedestal ive said before I know and understand the reasoning behind some extermination and I know I pick and choose myself what forms of life deserve to live and what just by my diet alone. But I do realize by choosing my diet, by supporting some forms of death for other species including humans that I do support the taking of lifes at times. Its not pretty it can be disturbing but at least I see it for what its for and do not try to sugar coat it or make it no big deal.

The voice maybe one in the same.

I do agree about how kids today are growing up too fast. I honestly feel like barfing for five hours straight if I go through the girls section at a clothing store. Honestly, wtf is up with the designers of these clothes last time I checked they are supposed to be designing for girls, not hookers. Same thing with guys clothing, I really don't give a shit what kind of boxers you're wearing today, pull your freaking pants up and put on a belt!!! I can barely find decent clothing to wear, even the winter where the coats don't look like they'll keep you warm for an hour. Honestly I don't like the jeans for girls, they're too tight IMO.
With the toy thing, I still buy stuffed animals and one time I even bought a little doll. I still watch animated movies (the other day I watched Peter Pan on TV and brought back good memories) yet kids even at eight are like OH THAT'S BABY STUFF!!! I even remember when the TV show Zoom came out on PBS some of my friends were like [we were 8] OH THAT'S BABY STUFF!!! o_0 How the hell is Zoom for babies? Anyone can watch it, I still watch Arthur and in a few weeks I'll be a Senior in High School.
The other day when my niece came over at my home this is one conversation that just left me speechless:
Niece: Do you wear make up?
Me: No I don't like it.
Niece: Then you're not pretty like my mom if you don't wear make up.
Me: o_0
Honestly, she's 7 years old and she believes this-Wear make up=pretty, Don't wear make up=UGLY! What the hell is up with kids these days?!?!?!
I'm not really boy crazy but I do like guys and have a few obsessions. I think by magazines, I don't like stuff like Cosmogirl, Teen People, Seventeen, etc. Although I do like reading magazines like TIME, Newsweek, etc. (and the ocassional Entertainment Weekly) But just because I read these magazines doesn't make me mature.
