True Life

Post by Neon Heart » Sun Mar 25, 2007 11:48 am

Has anyone ever seen this show, besides me? It's one of my favorite shows, it's a show on MTV that's actually good. Basically, True Life is a documentary show, and these camera people for MTV follow the hardships/lives of teenagers and some adults.

There have been some interesting episodes ("I Have Tourettes", "I'm Obese", ect.), and some not so interesting ones ("I'm a Jersey Shore Girl" comes to mind... yay, let's watch an episode of True Life that's almost like the Real World! ¬¬). There have been a lot of episodes made, according to Wikipedia, but MTV seems to play the same bunch over and over. There was one episode about people with eating disorders that I didn't even know had been made, because MTV never shows it.

So far, the newest episode shown was "I Hurt Myself"... in other words, the episode was about three girls who self harm. They didn't actually show the girls cutting themselves (but one girl did end up stabbing herself with a pair of scissors... which she says was an accident), but they showed a LOT of scars, and one girl pulling out her hair. One girl had a really nasty wound from either cutting herself or burning herself. So this was an episode that was particularly hard to watch.

Has anyone else actually seen this? It's on at random times on MTV, but it's worth it to sit down and watch at least one episode. It's not the usual scripted kind of reality-MTV, oh no. It's better. It's actually interesting, because it shows people getting over their problems in the real sense, none of it is scripted or planned out in a "theatric" way.

No, I haven't because I don't watch mTV anymore. I haven't watched more than 10 minutes of their programming in a single sitting in years. It's all shallow teenybopper pseudo-reality crap now.

I checked the casting calls section of MTV.com, and here's what they are casting for True Life episodes. Some of the topics are similar to past shows; there are a few that are kind of new and interesting.

-I Need Anger Management

-True Life: I'm a Gainer
(about gaining weight)

-True Life: I'm the Black Sheep

-True Life: I'm Stopping Global Warming

-I'm Getting out of Prison

-I'm Beautiful

- I'm So Sorry

-I'm Having a Summer Romance

-I'm Leaving Foster Care

-I Make Minimum Wage

-I Live Another Life on the Web

-I'm Looking for my Father

-I Have a Loved One in Iraq

-I'm Just Starting to Date

-I'm Going to Rehab

-I'm Pregnant

-I'm in a Long Distance Relationship

-I Panic

-I'm an Alcoholic

-I Live In the Projects

-I Stutter

-I'm Supporting My Family

-I'm Having An Arranged Marriage

So, some of those episodes sound pretty silly, such as I'm Beautiful. That episode's gonna be a serious vanity fest. I most likely won't be watching that one. But this upcoming season looks to have some very interesting episodes, too. I'm actually kind of looking forward to watching the alcoholic and anger management episode.

-I'm Beautiful
I wanna try out for that XD;

I've seen these. They did one on really smart people (like 150 I.Q or up)

I would have loved to go on that XD; I had a 139 I.Q when I was a child but the stupid advanced program wouldn;t let me in cause I NEEDED to have a 140. >.> jerks

I like this show. Its the only one I watch................

Okay....I like sweet sixteen too ;_; *is ashamed*

The episode "I Stutter" was very meaningful to me because I do stutter. When I was about in the 4th or 5th grade, I could barely speak a clear simple sentence. After years of speech therapy I am able to use various techniques that allow me to speak more clearly and most people today say that they can't even tell that I do stutter. Of course there are times when I may have some difficulty.

It was nice and uplifting to see other people who go through simular experiences. And it was nice to see it portrayed in a more positive light.

The pagent girl was also awesome. :D
