So...let's talk about urban legends. What are the most interesting to you, and which do you hate (or whatever)? When did you first hear about them?
The legend about the munchkin hanging himself in the background of The Wizard of Oz.....well, I heard a different story. I was about 9 and my mom told me about it. But she said it was a girl who had auditioned for the role of Dorothy, and she was so devastated when she was rejected that she hung herself. Years later, I discover IMDb message boards, and I'm about to post the story I heard when I read all these messages about a munchkin hanging himself. And I'm thinking, "What munchkin? It was a girl!"
And then, somebody posts a link to snopes.com and I discovered the truth. Well, at least we were all wrong.
[I'll be back later to add some more. Now you discuss.]
The Facts of the Animal Kingdom:
"Zebras can bite."
"Snakes say sss."
"Lions chase people."
And of course…”Tigers bite you.”

And one from me...Leopards are gorgeous.

The wait-30-minutes-after-eating-before-going-into-water urban legend. It's so stupid and ruins my fun!

I feel sorry for all those kids who have to wait HALF AN HOUR to go back into the water because mom and dad were told to wait when they were young.
Snopes is love, man.

this is not a real urban legend but
there was this story that people told to other people
that when you walk down the park at night
that there is a group that will stop women from walking
and ask them 2 Questions
Angel smile or get raped
if you would say Angel smile they would cut you from ear too ear
so that it look like you would have a big (macabre)smile
and if you would pick the other Q well you know wat would happens next
It was just a story I think to make young women scared
coz there was nothing about it in the papers TV or radio

The legend that sticks out the most in my mind is the one about the supposed ghost in Three Men and a Baby. It was because of this myth that I found Snopes and learned that it was really just a cardboard cut out and not the ghost of a murdered boy. Still, the thing looks really freaky when you see it.

Urban legends scare the hell out of me. I don't know why, but I'll start reading shit like that in Snopes, and completely terrify myself.
Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

The one that really scared me was reading about the girl and her boyfriend are driving, and the car goes dead on a deserted road. So the guy tells her to stay in the car while he goes back for help. After a few hours, the girl starts hearing a
tap tap, and, thinking it's a branch against the car, goes out to break it when she sees it's her boyfriend hung on a tree and his feet scraping the car.
After reading that, I had horrid images of that happening to me and my boyfriend.

So I know that if we ever get stranded on a deserted road....I don't know what we'll do, but we will NOT leave the other alone like that!

I don't know if this counts, but it probably does since I saw it on Snopes...
My favorite Urban legend, the one where they talk about how there used to actually be cocaine in Coca-Cola. It just seems funny to me, I guess... I guess I invision it as "Ooo, Coke! *opens bottle, drink, wasted*"

That is, in fact, true.

Oh yeah, that one IS freaky. It's weird how a simple placement like that could turn into a big huge legend.
