The Wizard of Oz!
Did anyone watch it? It was on TBS last night, and then they showed it again. Instant replays. >< I believe the WB is supposed to air it again in December. I was watching it downstairs, and my sister was watching Charmed upstairs, then she came downstairs and told me that they were airing a commericial for the Wizard of Oz being on tv at 8:00 pm. At first, I thought she meant it was about tonight and I was thinking, "why would the WB be airing a commericial for a movie that's coming on another network at the same time as Charmed? Wouldn't they want Charmed to get better ratings?" and then I found out that the WB was going to air it in December. ^^;; Anyway, what're your opinions about the Wizard of Oz? That movie was always one of my favorite classics, and it's a movie you never get tired of watching no matter how many times you've seen it. The characters are all loveable, the sets are beautiful, and I abosuletly love all the songs. It's just one of my favorite all-time classics. I remember on tv once, they had a documentary about Shirley Timple was supposed to originally be Dorothy, but then they got Judy Garland to do the part. I just can't imagine Shirley Timple as Dorothy. I just can't. ^^ So, what is everyone's opinions about the Wizard of Oz? *is feeling obessesive ^^
Re: The Wizard of Oz!
that actually would have made more sense, because Dorothy was supposed to look much younger.Cardcaptor Takato wrote: I remember on tv once, they had a documentary about Shirley Timple was supposed to originally be Dorothy, but then they got Judy Garland to do the part. But Judy Garland did a lovely job, and her singing voice is beautiful. I enjoy this movie everytime it's on. I love how it goes from black and white to color, which to me, really shows that Dorothy is in the world of her dreams, or rather, "over the rainbow". When I was a little girl, I used to wish I had a pair of ruby slippers XD They're just so...sparkly! *_*

I love The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!!! It's a wonderful movie, and an even better book series. I had almost all of them. The only one I was missing was Glinda of Oz. And I just started reading the book again. I love it!! I love the movie for a lot of reasons. The Wicked Witch of the West is one of my idols (don't ask...), and I love how they did everything. I mean, look at Glinda's entrance in the movie. That was done really well, especially considering the era. But, as I said before, the books are soooo much better!

I am one of a select number of people who did NOT like this movie one single bit. Judy Garland did an excellent job in it, and she's really cute in the movie...but that's about it. My brothers and I tried watching it over the Christmas break last year, and could not get into it to save our lives.

I love this movie, I used to watch it every-single-year! However I havn't acctually sat down and watched it since I was like 11 (I'm 17 now). I'm a BIG fan of Judy Garland and I think that whe was perfect for the part... even though she was a little old... and it showed :Blushes:. Anyway, I liked the sequal with Faruza Balk "Return to Oz", even though it's not a clasic and wasn't as good I think it was still great! I spose that it helps that I'm also a dedicated Faruza fan (even though I can't spell her name
).

I love that movie! I always force my friends to watch it when they come over. That is, if they've never heard of it. Those Wheelers always scared me as a child...Jed-kun wrote:I love this movie, I used to watch it every-single-year! I'm also one of the few people who loves The Return to Oz. I like the actress they had for Dorothy in that movie because she was at the right age for the part. If I'm not mistaken, the 2nd movie is more closer to the books then the first one. Still, nothing beats the first movie with all it's wonderful music and beautiful sets and...JUDY GARLAND! ^^
The Return to Oz was very...weird. I saw it a few months ago with a friend, and I was like "oh my god, wtf". It was just..strange. I think the pumpkin-headed guy freaked me out.
Also, I couldn't BELIEVE that was Fairuza Balk x_x; wow. so different from how she looked in "The Craft" LMAO

Speaking of Oz and all it's sequals and whatnot, has anyone ever read "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West"?
I'm a huge fan of the book, and I'm just dying to see the musical. From what I've heard, though, it's not that great. Still, I just what to see my Fabala alive. *^^*;

I'm not a fan of The Wizard of Oz. Was a little bit when I was a kid, but as I got older, it just seemed to lose interest for me. However I totally agree that the actors did a wonderful job. It just wasn't my thing after a while.
I am a huge fan of Return to Oz! It was just too awesome for words. I saw it once when I was a little girl and it really was strange looking to me, but then I got it a couple years ago and discovered that it's grown on me rather quickly. What can I say? I like the strange and the weird.

The only Oz book I've ever read is Dorothy and The Glass City, or something like that and that was a long time ago back in elementary school.Sailor Europa wrote:Speaking of Oz and all it's sequals and whatnot, has anyone ever read "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West"?

I've read The Wizard of Oz and The Land of Oz and seen both movies (I liked Fairuza as Dorothy. She also did a good job as Mildred in The Worst Witch that same year).
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FIRST BOOK AND MOVIE
The book doesn't have the dream scenario. There is therefore no Professor Marvel, Huck, Zeke or Hickory.
Glinda is the Good Witch of the South, and they have to go to her place to get back home.
The Tin Man gets them through the poppy field by beheading a cat, then asking the mice it menaced to pull them through on a cart he makes (makes sense that MGM would replace it, actually)
It takes Dorothy several weeks to get to the Emerald City.
The slippers are silver.
Dorothy intentionally throws the water on the Wicked Witch of the West, but doesn't realize what she's done.
The Tin Man is shown to have been a real man (the movie makes no such statement)
The Flying Monkeys are shown to carry everyone back.
In Land, we meet a young boy named Tip, who sets out to escape the witch Mombi (who now has a thing called the Powder of Life).
Tip is revealed to be Ozma, the true ruler of Oz (the Wizard stole the throne from her father and she was changed into a boy).
Oh, and then there's the thing that really "hangs my munchkin" (so to speak--that's a Snopesism there): THERE WAS NO SUICIDAL MUNCHKIN ON SET! Seriously, that thing you see "swinging" from the tree in the scene with the Tin Man is really only a bird. No munchkins would have been present during the filming of the scene as the Munchkinland scenes were filmed after the Forest scenes.
SIDE NOTE: The costume Frank Morgan wears as Professor Marvel was later discovered to be owned by L. Frank Baum.

I like the movie once a year .. sometimes. I kinda dislike it because I used to babysit a little girl that only watched that movie. Thier was no other movie or cartoon. it was Wizard of oz all_ the_ time_ . *twitch*
my dad has the book "Return to Oz" and gave it to me. It's sitting in my room somewhere. Perhaps I should read it.

And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I saw that rumor listed at www.snopes.com and the clip they had was in black and white, and it looks more like a munchikin swinging in black and white than it does in color. You can see it better when it's presented in color and then you can obiviously tell that it's a bird.
