Ant Remedies?

Post by Panda » Sun Jul 16, 2006 10:05 pm

Recently my kitchen has fallen into misfortune. With a small rainy season making it's way through town a large group of ants has made my kitchen their home...

So my question is, does anyone know and home remedies for killing ants? Hopefully something that is inexpensive?

Gosh, I hear ya... in Oswego in June/July, the ants are really bad. They're of the "mini" variety, the little baby sized ants. My apartment was recently taken over for a few days by them, so I picked up some spray can stuff and put it around the doors, windows, appliances, etc. and it seems to have worked pretty well.

Those little traps that have the phermones in them seem to work for some people, so you might have luck, but they never really worked for me. The spray on contact stuff did more.

Vacuuming them up is fun too. >P

I've heard that putting ammonium around the outside of your house will keep them from getting in. I will have to ask more about that.

Step on them?

Ok, I don't know about any homemade remedies, but my family buys this stuff called RAID and it keeps killing them for up to three weeks. We only have to spray it once when we see them and it kills them immediately. I don't know how much it costs, but I can't imagine that it would be too expensive. And it will probably last you for a few good years.

We use something that plugs in where you plug in the shaving thing... it looks rather like those air refreshner/perfume-y things, except it kills stuff. ^^ It's kind of fun/creepy to stand there in the bathroom and watch the bugs drop like... well, flies. xD;; Watching them writhe is nasty, though. ^^;;;

We have ants problems here too. Seems like every year we have to fight them off. Raid is ok...but I prefer The Enforcer. That stuff is really painful to them.

Our real problem right now is trying to get rid of all the fruit flies. I'm not sure how to make them go away.
