I just finished reading Night (I forget the author, and I'm at work, so I can't go look at the book). It's nonfiction, and written by a man who as a boy was in a concentration camp. It's a very, VERY emotional story, and it had me gripped from beginning to end.

I also just finished Pet Sematary by Stephen King. I wanted to start getting into his books, and the lady at Barnes and Noble told me itw as a good one. She was right. It DEFINITELY wasn't what I thought it was...it was creepy, and really madeyou think.

I think I'll pick up The Stand and The Shining next .

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

The author is Elie Weisel. I had to read that book for school and I very much enjoyed it also.
Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you''ve got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

The Stand was an intense book - I read it a few years back and it's still pretty chilling.

Right now, I'm between books, but the last one that I read was Bringing Down The House, by Ben Mezrich. The true story of the MIT blackjack team and how they took Vegas for a ton of money. It was interesting even for non-gambler me. :)

i just finished reading The Lovely Bones. its about a teenage girl who gets murdered. its such an emotional and beautifully written novel, and it had me in tears.

I just read Gossip Girl. Can anyone explain to me why the books are so popular? I mean, all it is is girls being bitches towards each other...

Seconding the recommendation here. I also own this and while it's hard to read in places - at least for me personally it was - it's very moving and it is beautifully written.

On that note, I'm now in the mood to re-read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Nifenegger - and will probably start it again today. In a way, it's in the same vein as The Lovely Bones is, because it's also dealing a lot with love and loss - and it's really excellent. Not for everyone, but if you liked one of these books, I'd recommend the other.

I just finished Lost by Gregory Maguire. It's probably one of the most interesting books I've ever read. It's a little different than his other ones because this book is mostly an original story. If you like his other books though, I would recommend it. He's an amazing author. :D
I'll probably be starting Wizard And Glass by Stephen King soon. It's the fourth book in his The Dark Tower series. I'm so excited....I loved the first three books, I think I read them in about a week each or so :D
I'm also considering starting Dracula, I read the first 30 or so pages of it awhile back but never had the time to finish it. Has anyone read that the whole way through? If so...what did you think of it? I wanna know if it's worthwhile or not.

If you mean Bram Stoker's version, then I've read it all the way through. Once the story got going, it was pretty good. In a way, it was better than all the movies (though I still like the movies). I'd recommend reading it if you have the time to do so.

I'm reading Pride and Prejudice right now. It took me a while to figure out who the main characters were and what the plot was, but so far it's a good book. I'm actually almost finished with it, and I recommend that one too.

The Well of Loneliness. I'm up to the bit where Stephen is with the French governess. It's not too melodramatic just yet, but I'm assuming that it's something less melodramatic than Lost and Delirious.

Oh, and speaking of Lost and Delirious, I suggest that you all go and read The Wives of Bath (the book that inspired L&D. It's even more of a wringer than the movie was (but Piper Perabo does insane well--she'd do the Paulie of the book justice, although some bits would prove interesting).

Did you mean to post this in this particular thread? Isn't this relating to a game and not a book?
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I'm balancing Frankenstien by Mary Shelley and Mister Monday by Garth Nix. I just started on the last one and have no idea what is going on because it's very confusing, but it's Garth Nix so it has to be good. ^^

well before the power went out, I read Anne of Avonlea. Very very good book. I've never actually read it before, so it was a new thing for me.

During the power outage I read Anne of the Island, Christmas with Anne and other holiday stories, and started reading Anne of the Windy Poplars. All wonderful books! They kept me sane the whole seven days.

I just finished The Princess Bride. It's one of my favorite movies, and I've always wanted to read the book. I happened to find it in my school's library.

The book is, as my fiancee said, 10 times better. It's just written in such awesome satire. I totally recommend it.

I'm with you on that! But I stopped right in the middle of the book last year due to some personal issues I was having. Good thing I left a bookmark in it. ^^;

I'm trying to read The Lord of the Rings for the third time. I've stopped somewhere in the book the first two times, and I'm going to make an effort to remember EVERYTHING I read this time by reading it on a more frequent basis. ¬¬ At the same time, I'm also making a second runthrough with A Wind in the Door and The Last Unicorn. ^-^
