Vegetarians

Post by Alexclow345 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 3:47 pm

Well, I started being a vegitarian today. I wonder how long I'll make it. To me a vegetarian is a person that just doesn't eat meat. Any tips for begginers?

#1SailorMoonFan, WHY did you pull that crap? You had a perfectly fine response written, and you replaced it with "N/A".

What is your problem? Why did you delete your post and replace it with N/A?

Don't even start. I've already PMed you once about things that have gone on with you.

LAST. CHANCE. Stop it. No more warnings.

Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I am not a vegitarian and I will admit I am no expert in this area but I used to have a vegitarian friend and she always told me that you gotta make sure you get a good amount of protein since you wont be getting it from meat.

She suggested lots of nuts and stuff like that. You probably already know this but its really all the advice I got. good luck to you ^_^

Protein is important, but most Americans get way more protein than they need. Don't underestimate it though, because you will feel really weird if you start to have a deficiency; you'll be tired and your cognitive abilities will be impaired.

I really reccommend trying foods from different cultures that are less meat-intensive (Japanese, Indian, etc.), because in my experience, most foods made for vegetarians are crap.

I also think that if you feel like you will DIE if you don't have a bite of meat (not in the first few days, of course), to just have some and not feel like a complete failure, because a rapid transition is difficult for many people, and a strong urge for meat may indicate that you aren't getting proper nutrition from your new diet.

Hang in there!

You could try protein shakes and vitamins, but they are not 100% filling so you still need the real foods.
And if you ever thought about going vegan (where you don't eat milk or eggs), that might take a lot more work to do since you lack some good protien and calcium.

Ah, vegi-buddies!

I'm a vegetarian, for health reasons. My family has heart and intestinal problems that I feel my body will be less prone to if I cut meat out of my diet. I'm proud to report it seems to be working.

You'll find that many vegetarians are in the game for animal rights regarding their feeling of pain and the horrible upbringing and slaughtering of animals. I personally could care less (which is my reason for staying out of the other thread) but if you feel that way then I suggest more research on the topic before making a commitment. Just so you'll know what issues go with what form of vegetarianism. :)

Anyway, welcome to the dark-side.

I limit my meat for dietary reasons (my dad is diabetic and heart problems run in my family) but I don't cut out meat completely because of animal rights or anything. As long as animals are killed humanely, I don't see any problems with eating them.

I almost considered going vegitarian, when I kept thinking about how sad it is for an animal to be killed for food and for clothing. But then I remembered...I really, really like bacon....

But I agree with Anthy, that a humane animal killing isn't wrong if it's for food. Humans need to be able to eat SOMETHING.

Exactly, Neon Heart. Eating animals is near necessary and natural. I don't condone killing animals for other reasons, like for fur or for sport, because I feel that things like that aren't really necessary. Animals do eat other animals, and that sucks, but it's life.

I don't know how on topic this is, but am I the only one who gets annoyed with people who say "Vegitarians just eat salads"? I mean, I know there's more to it than that...Don't know exactly what...But I KNOW that that's not ALL they eat. I mean, if all vegitarians JUST ate salads, they'd be dropping like flies within a matter of days, weeks, you name it.

Well, it depends on what type of vegetartianism you practice.

I don't eat meat, but I do eat dairy and poultry. Most vegerarians restrict themselves from eating fish and some from eating dairy.

Vegans, on the other hand, don't eat animal products at all. This would probably be the salad-eater stereotype that these people are thinking of.

If you eat poultry or fish, then you're one of the classications in this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian

(where it says terminology and varieties)

A regular, classic vegetarian does not eat poultry or fish.

Though, I think it's pretty ridiuclous to call yourself ANY type of vegetarian (whether it be pesco, pollo, or lacto-ovo) if you consume meat of any kind, and last I checked, poultry and fish are a form of meat. In my book, you eat meat of any kind, then you're not a damn vegetarian. -_-

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

To each their own.

I wasn't sure what the different erms were for the classifications of vegetarian but I was trying to describe a similar concept. I guess were on the same page there.

For the other issue... I'm a vegetarian for health reason, not morality-related reasons. I don't care much for animals so I don't bother trying to cover up my reasons for being a vegetarian with that excuse.

I eat meat when I have to but if I have the choice I don't.
