Christmas Shopping!

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Thu Nov 13, 2003 9:32 am

Well, since we have a thread about Christmas Wish lists, let's talk about our adventures in Christmas shoppin! This'll help us prepare for this year's shopping adventures! Ahem, I really hate shopping for anime. As much as I like owning the DVDs, I can't stand going shopping for them because it's so difficult to get what you want. They're two stores around here that I know of that sell anime: FYE and BestBuy. FYE is closer to home, but doesn't sell very much anime and is very unorgangized, while BestBuy is farther away (it takes almost an hr just to drive over there), it does sell alot more anime and their service is nicer, but FYE is closer to home and usually sells anime alot cheaper, though BestBuy defienetly has more DVD boxsets then FYE. My main problem with buying anime is FYE. Let's see...some of the problems with FYE...first of all, they're unorganized. Sometimes the wrappers around the DVDs will be ripped opened, so you may be running the risk of buying a defective DVD. Second of all, they constanly keep on moving their anime on DVD section. They used to have it next to their video games, which makes sense, considering that anime and most video games come from Japan. Then, they moved it next to their anime on VHS section, which also made since, to have it next to their other anime. However, last time I went buy there, they had moved it again. I looked forever and ever for it, and started to believe they had gotten rid of it, and was just about to give up, until I finally found it next to the mature viewing section (aka porn). >< Anime does not deserve to be next to the porn! They'll also have different sections for the different series and movies they carry, but they'll have them all over the place. Like, they'll have CC DVDs with the CCS section, or they'll have Sailor Moon DVDs in two different places. They never update what they have either. Once someone buys that particular volume of a series, you never see it there again. FYE has Princess Nine DVDs, but I can't even begin buying them because they won't carry the first volume! Then comes the service, oh the wonderful service (and I don't mean fanservice). First, you have to show them to the anime on DVD section. Then, you have to re-pronounce the title for them several times before it finally sinks in (how hard is it to pronounce "Sailor Moon Season One DVD boxset, anyway?). Then, they basically did what you just did and browse around the anime on DVD section looking for it. Then, they can't find it, and come up to you saying, "I'm sorry, we don't start carrying that until next week" even though the Sailor Moon Season One DVD boxset has been out for a whole freakin' week! One of the few things I like about FYE is how they have this ordering service. If they don't have a particular DVD/CD you're looking for, you can have them order it for you! Now, I would like this system more, if they only called you back when it arrived! They have you fill out an order form, and they have you write down your phone number so they can call you back when it arrives, but they never call back and it's only supposed to take a week! We had to go by there ourselves to see if the DVDs had arrived yet after two or three weeks of waiting, only to find them laying underneath a pile of a whole bunch of DVDs, and then they say to you "Oh, I saw that laying there and was wondering what to do with it!" Duh, you pick up the phone and call the person who ordered it! They also give you an application to fill out to work there, but then you turn it in, but they never call back. They just have the same people working there all the time. The same snobby people. Well, at least I got to let go of some steam this morning. I was angry about something else today, and got to let out my anger at FYE. Anyway, this thread is to discuss your shopping adventures, so have fun!

First Christmas shopping I've done for the moment is a small set of... err... those round decorations put on the tree... huh, even THAT word I don't remember ?

Oh well :p

And a small snow man. A cute one. The shop is called "Loisirs & Création" (Hobby/Leisure and creation) and it's got everything you'd need to paint on every support, create jewels, everything for Christmas decorations... amazing *_*

Damn. My "free webspace" provider deleted a few of my accounts. Which means my Sailor Moon site is LOST! T_T !

I don't think there is a real word to call the round decorators. But the decorations that go on the Christmas trees are called ornaments. Tip! If you make your ornaments all one color (or 2 colors max), it will look really nice and elegant! :P

One word: Target.

Cheap, for my incredibly low budget, and it has everything I need. My dad is so hard to shop for because he always says, "I don't want anything. Just a hug." ¬¬;

Usually for grandparents I make something crafty that they can put on their shelf, like a picture frame with shells glued onto it or cross-stiched birds. Simple and thoughtful, I guess.

I do that too ^_^ it's easy, it's around the time when I have enough money to buy gifts (while i'm unemployed..;_; ), and it leaves me a whole year to only worry about birthdays (which I usually buy after my b-day, or middle of summer). However, if I happen to have money, and see something really nice that I know someone would like, I'd buy it around September, Octoberish.
::cries:: Its been forver!! And this place has changed... oh how I''ve missed it all ::hugs::

T_T I wish we had a target nearby. I love target.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

We have a target here, but it just looks like fixed-up Kmart.

I'll be doing christmas shopping cheap again this year, but I do have a strange eye for getting stuff that people like. For the past 3 years, my family has loved my selection in gifts. O.o Events that happened this year prevented me from doing my shopping earlier then I would have liked. I also hoped I would have had enough money put back to do some nice things for close, online friends. *sigh* Next year perhaps.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.
