some thoughtful questions...
I hope you all don't mind me asking these. ^^;
Okay, first of all, what do you think makes someone intelligent?
Second, what do you believe is the meaning of life?
Third, what would you do if, for some reason, all the people who were close to you were seperated from you and you were forced to be all alone? Would you be able to deal with it or would you miss people too much?
Personally, I think the meaning of life is to learn, to acknowledge your talents and strive to be the best in them and to be as great and admirable of a person as you can be.

Re: some thoughtful questions...
One: Intelligence, in my opinion, cannot be found alone through books. Being booksmart is different from being intelligent. Intelligence invovles common sense, the ability to make your own choices through GOOD judgement, having a sense of tolerance and respect for different beliefs, ways of life, cultures, etc...having a sense of tact and knowing when to say something and when not to say something. It's a conglomerate of things.
Two: I believe the meaning of life is whatever you chose it to be. To me, there is no one meaning of life, except perhaps to make the best of it.
Three: One of my greatest fears is being alone. Honestly, I don't think I could handle it. I can barely handle it when a friend of mine deserts me. It takes me months to get over it usually.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I believe that true intelligence is the realization that society controls us, and the ability to break free from that control.
I believe that the meaning of life is to help other life-forms (whether they be humans or trees).
That last question is a real tough one. I've always had a hard time saying goodbye to people, so if I was totally alone in the world... I guess I would live only for life's sake.

1. A lot of factors make someone intelligent. Books can help, but you can't get it from them alone. A lot of it you get from experience, and how you deal with what life gives you.
2. The meaning of life is to find the meaning for yourself. Tell me if you ever find it, I'm still looking.
3. I'm an extremely introverted and private person, so I'm completely used to being by myself a lot. If I do have any fear about this though, it's that thanks to my personally I will be destined to spend my entire life alone.

1. I think intelligence is different things for different people. It involves experience, as well as the ability to think for yourself and not be a mindless slave.
2. I agree with Tiff on this one. And I don't need a deity to give my life meaning, either. (not trying to offend theists or anything here)
3. I'm not sure about your question. Do you mean I couldn't use the Internet-kind of completely alone. I think I might miss some people like my parents, Diana, and the other Sailor Moon fans, but if I could still write my stories and watch anime I would be fine. I could still get food from a store, right? Or do you mean so alone that you have to get food for yourself from the wild? I'm not sure how I would do that by myself. I think if that were true I would more worry about starving than missing people! Like FoxFire, I often prefer being alone anyway, and will probably live alone by choice. Celibacy rules! You get to do what you want! (within reason of the law of course)

Actually, thinking of that, there's one thing I would probably really miss: being subversive. If there's no people then there's no one to be subversive to! (not in a really serious law-breaking way, but more like just not being conformist)
That's why I'm glad there are Taiki and Chibi-Usa haters I can disagree with. It wouldn't be as much fun for me to like those characters if they were popular.

I think intelligence is different for everything. For instance, I know people who can read and understand complex novels, but they can't do simple math. It depends on what you look at. I also think that it relates to more than books. I myself have no common sense, so I don't consider myself intelligent. But a friend of mine can answer almost-anything you ask him. He's got tons of common sense, but he's not doing well in school. I consider him to be more intelligent than I am.
I think life has no definite meaning, per say. I'm alive, and that's that. So I'll just live my life how I want to, without regrets, and without worrying about what it means to be alive.
I couldn't handle being alone. I would probably kill myself. I rely on my friends so much, and I couldn't make it without them. In fact, its thanks to my friends that I'm still alive. I'm just not strong enough to make it on my own.

some degree of law is necessary to civilization. Think of all the murder, rape, torture, pillage, and pain that would go on without it. Sure, those things exist now, and always will...but with law, we can at least tone it down.Cardcaptor Takato wrote:But, if there was no one around, anymore, there would be no law, so you could do anything you wanted! ^_^;;

Yeah, but Cardcaptor Takato is talking about if there's no one around. So if you're alone, there wouldn't BE rape or murder or things, since you're the only one there =PTiff wrote:some degree of law is necessary to civilization. Nice topic, Stephen. ^^
1) I'm not sure what intelligence is. I suppose it's the ability to gather knowledge and make good decisions based on that knowledge. I'm not a very intelligent person. ^^; I do stupid things all the time even when I know better.
2) The meaning of life is to make stir-fry and shaved ice, and to play cards with Chu-Chu. That's it.
3) If I was totally alone, I suppose I could always buy more date-sim games. I'd be okay without people. I don't really need them.

okay, then I pose this: People need people. I don't believe anybody can live totally alone. They would go crazy, literally. What would be the point of living totally alone? You'd have nothing to share: emotion, talent, personality...Temperaments and personality are partly shaped by your environment, and without anybody around, a person couldn't fully develop.Lucied wrote:

1. I consider intelligence to be measured by a persons ability to learn from their experiences in life and from what they learn from others, and apply that knowledge later.
2. The meaning of life is something that I believe is different for everyone. I not really sure I have the experience to know without a doubt what my meaning is. Maybe once my life evens out I'll know.
3. I'm pretty sure I'd be alright, considering I don't really have anybody that is close to me. I don't let people get close to begin with, I never really have. But even if I was forced to be alone, I would go on and live the most fulfilling life as possible.
I don't need people around me to be happy, but they're okay to have around if they're the right people I guess.
