Old School Nickelodeon

Post by Rin » Sun May 28, 2006 10:37 pm

Ok, I look through the last few pages and didn't find a topic for this.

Did anyone ever watch Nickelodeon when they were younger and loved these shows:

You Can't Do That On Television
Double Dare
Salute Your Shorts
Hey Dude
Adventures of Pete and Pete
Today's Special
Pinwheel
Tomorrow People
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
All That (first season)
Round House
Clarissa Explains It All
Secret World Of Alex Mack
Rocko's Modern Life
Original Rugrats
Doug
Ren and Stimpy
Space Cases
Third Eye
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Global Guts
Finder's Keepers
Nick Arcade
Wild and Crazy Kids
What would You Do?
Kenen and Kel
My Brother and Me

And there was probably a bunch more.

I really wanna watch these shows again :)

Oh, and there was some Koala bear show on Nick Jr. One was named Blinky and another named Pinky. Does anyone have any idea what that show was called?

wasnt there a show called Hatty Town where all the characters were different hats. Like the policeman was a police hat, and so on. I remember liking that show.

The show you're thinking about is Noozles.

The only shows I remember watching was Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Grimm's Fairytales (which was a Nick Jr. Show), the classic Nicktoons (Ren&Stimpy, Doug and Rugrats, Rocko), Salute Your Shorts and Pete&Pete. ^^; I don't even remember half the shows you listed. They must have aired after I stopped watching that network.

I didn't watch a lot of Nick when I was younger. I used to watch things like Encyclopedia Brown, Parker Lewis Can't Loose, Eeerie Indiana, and Bill Nye The Science Guy. Unfortunately I can't remember what stations those came on.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

Ah, yes! David The Gnome! Doug! Global Guts! Eureeka's Castle! (that's two E's!)

Ah...good times. I think Nick went downhill when they were celebrating their 20th birthday. That was the godawful day they gave the orange Snick couch stuffed with money to some kid. :x And who knows if the kid even has it anymore?? The poor couch

Anybody remember Cousin Skeeter? Haha I never thought a puppet could walk around the neighborhood and everybody acts like it's normal.

Remember Eddie McDowd? I wish I had a dog like that, so pretty.
OK I could go on but I'll shut up now. ^__^

I was never a huge fan of Nick. I watched Are you Afraid of the Dark, some occasional Doug, and old school Ren and Stimpy. The rest of Nick always annoyed the hell out of me.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Yep, loved it. My all time favorite was AAAHH! Real Monsters. My other favorites were Salute Your Shorts, Rocko, the early seasons of Angry Beavers, early All That (before Amanda "Talentless" Bynes), and of course Are You Afraid of the Dark.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Eeeire Indiana was on Fox Kids and Bill Nye was on PBS. Never heard of the other shows to know what networks they were aired on. I used to love Nick back in the good 'ol days but nowadays most of their new shows suck. The only new cartoon they have that I actually like is Avatar and I hate how Nick is trying to be a wannabe MTV. I used to like the older episodes of Doug, The Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Ah! Real Monsters, Are You Afraid Of The Dark? (I always thought it was better than Goosebumps), the earlier episodes of Hey! Arnold, the older episodes of All That, Clarissa Explains It All, The Secret World Of Alex Mack, Legends Of The Hidden Temple, Kablaam, and the short-lived Animorphs TV show. Does anybody else remember that Nick In The Afternoon block they used to have with the talking popsickle stick host that told corny jokes?

I remember Noozles fondly. It had a vague anime feel to it, liong before I knew what anime was. Also, I liked the whole Ayers Rock-as-gateway-to-another-dimension thing.

You Can't Do That on Television just came out in the US on DVD. Not Canada, ironically. Watching now, I can hear a slight Canadian accent that I missed the first time around. Also, I find the green slime bits are the least funny parts of the show--the trigger phrases just sound forced. The funniest bit on the show was when they revealed Ross's last name: Ewage.

I also liked Roundhouse, another sketch show, for slightly older kids. The gimmick was that it was all on one set, and they just moved in props and backgrounds on camera.

I still wake up sometimes with the Pinwheel theme in my head. Didn't that run for like five hours at a time during the day?

Today's Special was just weird.

And of course, there was Mr. Wizard, who didn't look like a very good wizard, or that good a scientist, but I still know what sufrace tension is, so I guess it counts for something.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

While we've only had cable down here since 1995, some of those shows are ones I loved.

Double Dare was remade, IIRC, into an Aussie version that aired for a while around the same timeslot as Now You See It (which had a little robot named Melvin), Blockbusters and Wheel of Fortune.

Most of the shows aired on ABC, except for Ren and Stimpy, and Doug. Other shows (such as Clarissa, Pete and Pete, Kenan and Kel and Space Cases) didn't air at all until Nickelodeon started broadcasting down here.

Oh, and I loved YCDTOTV. Watching now, I tend to agree with Sailorasteroid about the slime (it's funnier watching Moose try to avoid saying "I Don't Know" and "Water"). Oh, and Barth's Burgery isn't all that funny. It was, however, funny when the kids had no choice but to get shot. These days, there's a fan-made production which ruins the jokes merely by being animated.

I loved watching Nickelodeon as a kid and I remember watching many of the shows you listed above. In particular I remember watching The Secret World of Alex Mack which was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

Ah yes, Stick. They used to do Dip Stick (They dipped the popsicle stick into something and he 'guessed' what it was. He was never wrong on that...) and Stump Stick (They ask him a riddle or question, and he would always get it wrong...)

He also had a brother or cousin or something, I don't remember what, but he would sub for Stick occasionally and he would always get the Dip Stick segment wrong, but the Stump Stick ones right.

One of the main reasons I remember all this is because a cheat code to a game I used to play (Rise of the Triad - A doom-esque type game involving triangle things) was dipstick (The code to enable cheat codes.) ^^;

Also, I remember the "Today is...." segment where they made each day "something special", and on the last day of every month, they'd tell you to say "Rabbit rabbit" first thing in the morning before you say anything else because it would bring you "luck"... (Probably about as much luck as a rabbit's foot, I mean, he had 4 of 'em, so he was real lucky...)

How could I forget about Stick Stickly! He totally rocked.

And yes, Nick Days. I used to actually do those. I remember Kite day, and I made a very crappy kite and tried to fly it.

There was also the Nickelodeon song, it went something like "Nick Nick Nick Ni-Nick Nick Nick, Nickelodeon!"

Noozles? I never would have guessed that.

I can't believe how nostalgic I getting... Nickelodeon either needs to have a classic Nick day or a Classic Nick channel, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Don't know if this actually counts as old school Nick, but I stil l remember the old Nick Jr. segments where they had that one guy who was just a face... And his name was Face.

I remember I got an art pad out and drew him... And I showed my mom, and was all "LOOK MOM I DREW FACE =D!!!!!!" and she freaked out cause she didn't know what I mean't. So she was just all "o_o That's nice!"
