Holy shit. This turned out to be a GREAT movie. It was not at ALL what I thought. It was a complete surprise. Even Derek, who doesn't like Adam Sandler and who is horrendously picky about movies, liked it.

The previews make out to be this mindless comedy, but it's so completely not. There's far more drama and touching moments than humor, and the whole movie completely makes you think. I was crying by the end, and Derek was completely touched.

I loved it.
Yeah, Dan and I saw Click too. I both liked and didn't like it. On the one hand, it WAS very funny, and the theme was very sad (missing out on life and all) even though it's been done before by a lot of other movies better. (It's a Wonderful Life, etc.) But on the negative side, a lot of the jokes were really lame and they overdid the sad parts too much for my taste. I guess I'd rate it average. It wasn't absolutely hilarious like Anchorman or anything, but it was real funny.

See, I like the fact that it wasn't just "OMG FUNNY HAHAH". I like that it was actually a serious movie, and made you think.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Uh, that's not what I said. When I was describing the positives I said overall it was very funny and that it had a sad theme. Which I DID like. But then when I described negatives, I said I thought they *overdid* those parts and they felt too forced at times. And some of the jokes I thought weren't funny so much as crude/stupid.

*Blink* I didn't say you did. O_o; I was just giving my reasons for liking it completely, just as you were giving your reasons for sort of not liking it.

*confused* Yeah, that was a completely independent thought.......>.>

Anyways, I'm completely burned out on Adam Sandler, but maybe I'll go see it to see what it is you're talking about ^^

Exactly. o.O

Yeah, i'm not a huge adam sandler fan, and i've only seen a few of his movies (waterboy, 50 first dates, mr. deeds, and click), and i've liked them, but i'm not like "OMG ADAM SANDLER <3". But I really liked this movie. I recommend it. ^_^

-_-

I thought you meant it as a rebuttal to me, since you quoted what I said. Because I didn't say that the fact that there were serious parts were why I didn't like it.

Pirates of the Carribean: Keira Knightly's. . . I mean Dead Man's Chest

An important part of a movie is how you sell it. For example, the movie Cast Away was advertised as being about a man who has to rebuild his life after being on an island, but it's about the time on the island. Poor selling. Pirates 2 was never mentioned as anything but a straight sequel, but instead it's a setup for another movie, like Matrix Reloaded or Back to the Future 2. This is good selling because you're entertained throughout, and even when things don't come to a resolution, it's not disappointing.

Moreover, Pirates as a series is turning out wonderful, as other than Will Turner, there are no completely good characters. Nor, other than Captain Squidward AKA Davy Jones(not the Monkee, regretably), are there any really bad characters. There's a new stuffed-up English guy, as Commodore Norrington was in the first movie, but this time he's representing the East India Trading Company and has some ulterior motives of his own.

Aside from a little silliness in the first action sequence(which plays off the line in the first movie, ". . . and they made me their chief"), the whole thing is even better than the first.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Adam Sandler is either hit or miss for me, which is why I saw 50 First Dates for the first time last night, which branched away from the usual Adam Sandler nonstop stupid humor and gross outs (except for the walrus part, dear god that was disgusting).

What I also liked was how it didn't end happily ever after, but it was so sad, I could never live like that. If I had to wake up every day to watch a tape in order to learn what's happened, I'd honestly kill myself. Man, and the ending... I'm not sure if really they should have gotten married due to her condition, and how fair is that to the kid?

Yeah, 50 first dates killed me. It was so damn sad. I cried during that one, too -_-

*Shrugs* A child can learn jus tas easily as an adult. The child had one truly stable parent (the father), and it wasn't like her mother would neglect her. The child knew mommy' scondition, and young children are very understanding and accepting. I don't think it would be impossible.

I heart Adam Sandler!

Click was good and funny. I thought it got a little to sad for my tastes at the end and the part with his Dad made me cry a little... but then I cry alot when I'm PMS-ing so I blame it on that.

I just came back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean. I enjoyed this more then the first movie. I found it to be more innovative especially with Davey Jones crew as compared with Captain Barbarossa's crew.
I can't wait until the third movie. It seems to me that Captain Sparrow's compass acts like a moral compass, which is probably why he can't properly use it until that one scene at the end
.

And you''ve got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Kameko, please remember to use spoiler tags. That last bit in your post..I had no idea abuot, and I haven't seen the movie yet. I edited it to include spoiler tags.

I didn't put spoiler tags because it isn't spoiler material. Knowing that before hand doesn't reveal any plot points or anything as the movie never talks about it. It was inference simply on my part, even about it working as you never actually see it working. It would be spoiler if I talked specifically about the actions resulting from it and my is it a spoiler.

Mmkay. Well I consider what you talked about a spoiler, considering the fact that:
I personally didn't know there was going to be a third movie, and your theory on the compass was obviously made by watching the movie. Some of us, myself included, may not know anything abuot that.
Look, there isn't any point in arguing. Just please try to keep information that isn't outright obvious or known by most people behind spoiler tags.

The third movie was annouced before they released the second movie and was in fact shot back-to-back with the second movie.

ADMIN MODE

Kameko - Stop arguing. Just please be sure to put spoiler tags on things that might spoil things for the more casual person. I too, did not know the facts which Tiff had mentioned.

i just saw Click last night. i heared it wasn't anything special, but omg i LOVED it. comedy wise, it was ok. but what got to me is when
he found out that his dad died and saw the last things he said to him. and when he died. that really broke my heart.
i was so sad for him that i started sobbing (which i rarely do at movies) and that made my friend cry, so we were crying together and everyone was staring at us. then my other friend hit me with her water bottle, so i quieted down

Saw Clerks II tonight. I was somewhat skeptical that, 13 years later, the movie might play more toward the mainstream, and lack the raunchy humor that made the first one so great. On the other hand, I was willing to accept that perhaps it would be good enough to warrant buying a ticket. Well, I was not disappointed in the humor, but I was surprised that the movie turned out to actually be uplifting. While the first movie was funny to me only when I disconnected from the characters and laughed at them, I was actually sympathetic to them this time, particularly to Dante and the nerdish Elias. Elias has some of the funnier moments in the movie, like when he
talks about TransFormers and Lord of the Rings, and when he explains why he and his girlfriend can't have sex. The final lines and fadeout are wonderful injokes to fans of the first movie, and it makes one feel good about Dante's overall story.
So I would recommend seeing the movie, and if you're under 17, find a way to sneak in.
