Jen and I saw Shrek the Third this weekend with some friends. I didn't think I'd like it too much - I felt there was far too much pop-culture references in the first one, so I skipped the second - but this one was great. Any P-C references were very subtle and played out brilliantly. The humor was top notch in my opinion, and the soundtrack was great, much better than the first one. Highly recommended, though you'll miss out on some things (Puss, some of Fiona's back story, the main villain) if you have missed the second one.

*Nods* Joe and I saw it, and we both loved it, too. A lot of reviewers slammed it, saying it was exactly the same as the first two, but as you said, it wasn't. The humor was better, imo, and there were, like you said, less pop culture references. I always love the soundtracks, so that was also a plus.

Gomen for the double post but I've returned from seeing PotC 3. It was.....awsome. I can't describe it. Somne parts made me drop my nachos to the floor (Noo ;_; ) It was a damn good movie.

The movie managed to have comidec elements, even during fight scenes or serious scene.

It also mentions Tia Dalma's name. Wich was never mantioned in the 2nd movie. I just had to assume her name after the credits O-o; Ah well. Good movie. A must see.

The songs, the acting, the cameos (Bill Murray's cameo especially), and Audrey II. Wow, even by today's standards the effects are amazing. And I loved his voice. I spent the rest of the day saying "feed me".

But could you imagine if they made it today? Audrey'd be nothing but hyped up CGI, voiced by some no talent pop singer from American Idol with none of the smartass humour.
Check the sequence where Rick Moranis is singing with Audrey II. The sequence was done by having Rick lipsynch at 16fps (to match the plant, which couldn't make 24fps). It's not choppy at all.

Yes, it is. Jack himself says it as they're entering her bayou. "Tia Dalma and I go way back."

And then Tia herself goes "Jack sparrow!" and Jack responds by saying "Tia Dalma!"

Just saw Shrek 3 with my Sister.

Well... I wasn't expecting TOO much. It seems like an idea that's... now, been played out too much. a lot of it seemed predictable or cliche to me... but that's my opinion. There were some good scenes though... to me the first one is funnier, because... well, it was just a newer idea... by now this seems too... well, obvious/predictable.

Humor was mroe mature than the first two... less fart & burp jokes, and more situational comedy. Plus, Eddie Murphy is always funny as Donkey. XD

Soundtrack was awesome. to me, almost anything orchestrated is... WIN.

My favorite scene(s):
The Interrogation of the Gingerbread Man and Pinnochio. XD
The gingerbread's life flashing before his eyes was... brilliant. And then Pinnochio's explaining of where Shrek was. Plus... "ON the good, ship... lollipop..."

My second favorite was Puss N' Boots saying goodbye to his girlfriend/cat... and then all of his girlfriends... all coming up and meowing. XD
-Adam Picard-
Blake? oh, like a coffee break!!
Poet? What is that? Is it tasty? Is it a popular new snack? Usagi, Stars 179

James: For some reason I'm seeing you in a nurse's uniform...
Steve: Thank you Jeff, that will be all. ... He's not here, is he? Oh God I've internalized him...
-Coupling; The Freckle, the Key, and the Couple who weren't

'Who will tell us about this? Oh, no it is didnt know New Orleans was underwater guy.'
-Jon Stewart, The Daily Show

Yeah, I just saw it yesterday. I agree with you saying it's been played out too much. For me, it was a little, well, stale. It wasn't horrible ot anything, and it definantly had it's moments. It's just not quite as good as the first 2. But some parts were SO CHEESY that I literally gagged. Like when
Artie is talking about the bird thing in the fire and he's like OH NOES DADDY GO BUH-BYE!!! I HAVE ISSUESSSSS!!! I was trying not to laugh at how incredibly lame it was.
o.O he was being sarcastic. I laughed my ass off.

I saw Pirates 3 today. It was awesome! It left the door open for a sequel, but can also work as a bookend for the series.

The story had a lot of plot threads, but I didn't find them hard to follow. It also wrapped up nicely in the end (I'm not sure how they did it though...Sea Turtles I guess).

Although it seemed a little long, I can't think of any part that I would cut. In fact I would probably extend some scenes if I could.

BTW: Teague Sparrow (Keith Richards) had ~7 lines, but a strong screen presence.

Did you stay after the end credits for the last scene? If you did, that sort of finalized everything (for me it did, anyway). If they make a fourth one, I'll probably only go see it if they get the original cast back.

Yeah I saw it, but it only gave closure to Liz &Will. Jack still has an adventure to go on (as seen in the last scene before the credits). So they could make another movie without Liz and Will (or only have them a cameos).

The problem is that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly have said that they want to move on. So its unlikely that they will return in any major way.

BTW: I'm disappointed that Jack didn't make a eunuch crack about Will in this movie. I thought it was a great running gag in the last two films.

I to saw POTC 3 today. Barbossa and Tia Dalma are my favorite characters, so I was happy to see them play such a large role. I thought the movie was great, a little confusing with all the subplots, but it flowed well (it hardly felt like 3 hours). The final battle was so awesome and the ending suprisesd me. My favorite parts:
-Barbossa marrying Will and Elizabeth during the fight XD. I thought it would have been Jack since he mentioned it in the second film, but Barbossa makes the scene more interesting.

-Seeing the crew of the flying dutchman, especially Bootstraps, in human form.

-The scene with Davy and Tia in her cell. It was so sad, plus it was neat to see Davy briefly as a human.
There were some things that bugged me a bit though:
-The music. I noticed a lot of reuse from the second film. Which is too bad because the bits that were new sounded good.
-What happened to the Kraken kind of ticked me off. In Dead Man's Chest it's built up to be this horrible, fearsome creature, and all it gets here is "We made you kill the Kraken TRA LA LA next scene." The Kraken deserved much better.

-Tia's Calypso form was kind of a let down. When they released her from her human form I kind of expected her to look less humany, more goddessy. I'd hoped she'd do more once released, but it was like "We release you" *poof* *turns to crabs* "That didn't work, now what?" and she's gone. Seeing her with Davy after he died would have been nice.
-Number one big complaint
Elizabeth is probably my least favorite character, but she was tolerable in the first two movies. Here she's become a full blown Mary-Sue. The whole 'everyone wants to bone Elizabeth' thing got really old. Will loves her. Okay, most movies have romance to them, and their relationship added to the story. Jack shows some feelings for her. Well Jack's a drunken, horney pirate who routinely visits prostitues. Perfectly in character. Norrington added some conflict to the first movie which was fine.....then they kiss in this movie. Okaaaay. Sao Feng, WTF!? Debatably you could add Barbossa to the list (I think Gefforey Rush mentioned some sort of "between the lines" thing he added to his character in the first film.)

And then there's killing off Sao Feng early in the movie (greaaaat, this awesome character that was built up before the release that's snuffed out so Mary-Swan can shine) and making her captain, and then later she becomes King of the Pirate Lords, or whatever title it was. W.T.F.!.?. How many Mary-Sue hits do we have: 1.) Everyone loves her, 2.) She gains an uber awesome title and power/responsibilty, 3.) Masters quickly what it takes others years to learn (In Dead Man's chest I could overlook her learning in a few months how to sword fight so well because it made her more useful at the end, but now it seems ridiculous. 4.) Big Mary-Sue cliche here. Mouthing off to authority/someone higher and getting away with it/earning their respect. I really wanted Sao Feng to slap her at the beginning when she gets an attitude with him.
Looks like I ranted a bit there, but despite all that, I still really liked the movie.

I hated Elizibetch from the start. Shes like a real life Sakura Haruno from Naruto or Esther from Trinity blood.

Edit: XD; I Elizibeth was misspelled! I did NOT do that on purpose! XD; i find it funny

I was disappointed in the lack of closure for
Calypso and Davey Jones. Is Davey Jones just dead like Barbossa, in the locker or is he now able to be with Calypso? He just topples off the boat and that's it.
Yeah, no kidding.
You have a character like Sao Feng who Barbossa describes as being worse then him, who Barbossa BOWED to, get what was possibly the most pathetic death ever (a suprise cannon ball out of no where 30 minutes into the film).

BUT MARY-SWAN MUST SHINE ON ^___________________^!!!!!!
There's a very interesting photo I found on the spawn boards here (scroll waaaaay down). Actually this is the only place I've found this photo. I wonder where it's from since
Jack shouldn't be wearing Asian clothes since they found him way after they left Singapore
Very nice costume though.
