MySpace

Post by SeiUsa » Fri Feb 17, 2006 12:45 pm

What do you all think of MySpace? Do you think it's fun or just a waste of time? I think it's somewhat disturbing because it's usually used as an excuse for people to show off how "sexy" they are. I'd hate to post my pic on the net like that in fear of dirty old men printing it out:shock: Everybody used to ask me "Do you have Myspace?" and when I say no they say, "Jeez everybody has one!" Well finally I did make one but I forget all about and only have two friends on there :-P Well anyway do any of you have it?

I hate it.

It's outrageously slow, unprofessional looking, encourages people to use terrible HTML in their profiles, and is chock full of ads.

But... it seems like everybody and their mom is on it now. -_- Almost all of my friends are. So I have one. http://www.myspace.com/sylphiel (username is shocking, ne? :P) I've turned to the dark side :/ I don't really plan on using it though.

I prefer Facebook much better, it's better looking, faster, and overall more organized. But for those that don't go to college I can see the appeal.

*insert various EMO jokes here*

I've seen it a few times. *shudders* It's like an asylum for L33Tzz0rs!!111. I have no interest in sites like that, so I think I'll be safe from the darkside for a while.

Also, I was listening to the radio a week ago and they were having a story about how parents should monitor their children if they use myspace because it has bad stuff on it or something (it was an advertisement for the topic and they didn't say what was wrong so you'd have to tune in to find out.) I never actually listened to the discusion, so I don't know what it was about (I assumed pedophiles and the like. The kind that are all over the internet and not just myspace -_-).

Too many ads and random invites from people you barely know. Unfortunately, it's the best way for me to keep in touch with my brothers on the web (they don't like/want to use LJ), and it's annoying how many stupid plug-ins and other such nonsense they have plastered all over their pages.

I hate MySpace for the reasons listed above. I've had an account for aover a year becaus a friend of mine got one, but it's never been used.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I also agree because of the reasons already stated above. I've read some of the posts, and it aggravates me that some people cannot spell to save their lives. Not only are the posts hard to read, but once I understand what they're trying to say, I'm just like "um.. yeah". *types in smuncensored.com*

EDIT: I wanted to add that I think LiveJournal is a much better service as most of the people there are intelligent and it's ad-free. I think paid accounts are a much better and considerate way to pay for the service instead of spamming everyone with ads.

... *shrugs* Dunno about it, I don't have an account, and I never plan to get one. really, the only forums I go to are this one, an RP, Speed Demos Archive, FE:SS, and occasionally GFAQS. it sounds bad though... and I'm not one for blogging.

I just got one too for the hell of it along with Kait. Really, I can't add anything about it's crappiness that hasn't already been said. Maybe I'll finish filling out all the profile stuff at some point, but I have a much better use of my time. Though one nice little thing is that I'll be in touch with a good amount of my employees at my current store and can better stay in touch with them when I'm getting bounced around as my promotion goes through.

Would that myspace were around when I was a teen, so I could have enjoyed the ability to find potential mates (read: one-night stands) from the comfort of my computer. Now, yeah, kinda skanky. (sour grapes? Maybe.)

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Oh yes, I forgot to mention earlier that I do not have an account on myspace and have no intentions on getting one. I just can't get past the ads and stupid posts.

EDIT: If you're bored, search "Hanson" on myspace. There's a million pages on there that claim to be one or all of the Hanson brothers. Hanson have said in a recent radio interview that they do not have a myspace account aside from the one they use to promote tours. I don't know how many Hanson myspaces there really are, but there's a lot.

MySpace is okay... My friends wouldn't shut up about me getting one, just because they have one, too (and because I think they like whoring themselves way, way, WAY too much o_O)... And because they wanted me to "fit in" (those were their exact words), they insist I get one, too.... So, I did. ^_^;;;

Don't have a MySpace account, don't want a MySpace account. It's just an extreme version of a High School popularity contest in most cases. That, and the fact that I have yet to see a MySpace page with anything remotely interesting listed on it.

Of course, extensive online profiles annoy me to begin with. Whenever I use an online service that has a profile feature, I usually leave the fields blank, or fill them with nonsense (like my LJ profile). What ever happened to asking people about their lives? Even I can carry on a coherent enough conversation to relay basic information, and I am about as socially adept as a soggy couch.

Not a fan of MySpace, really. A lot of my friends are, and that's fine, but I can't stand the site personally. Not so much for the reasons everyone's listed above. I find that just being on the Internet at all you find these things. Grammar problems? Angst? Hell, those things exist here.

The website just has no point for me. I have an audioscrobbler for music. I have a livejournal for a blog. I have a facebook, but only because at UNC, it's practically a necessity. When assigned group work in a 300+ people class, you get your partners names and e-mails. You can go to facebook and get the rest of the information you need to meet up.

So I suppose it has its values, but it's just redundant for me. Also, I have a fierce hate of embedded music files and embedded video files. Anything that makes those things easy to create? Ugh.

I love Myspace, it's the only way I can keep in touch with a lot of my friends.

Okay, I admit it - I've become addicted to Myspace! Everyone at school kept posting all these neat photos from the last day of school last year, and it got me thinking that I should really scan mine in, which I eventually did. Now I can't stop checking other people's pages for updates!

Same here. But I don't mind Myspace. It keeps me occupied with a lot of my friends that have graduated(since most of them were seniors).

to be honest, I hadn't even heard of MySpace until it was talked about on The Big Idea. And that was when they were talking about online predators.

If anybody wants my personal opinion, I think MySpace is a little better than Xanga. Xanga is just confusing to me for some reason (like changing the look of what your Xanga looks like and all that), plus I think the layout for Xanga really sucks.

I like MySpace well I love my page. I don't have random people adding me. I get update from my fav bands & get to be "friends" with them. Some are smaller bands so I get more of friends to check them out.

As for online predators, well they are everywhere anyway. I don't put my name, location or picture on my page.

I have a myspace account, but I really don't care one way or the other if I have it or not. I just got it because of friends.
