Government

Post by Jed-kun » Sat Nov 08, 2003 8:23 pm

This is specifically geared toward the discussion in the topic "Freedom of Speach" that was veread off topic, sorry Tiff. Bassically, voice your complaints about the Government and it's doings here (i.e. the Patriot Act). But please, refrain from random praising (i.e. I LOVE THE GOV'T/I LOVE THE BILL OF RIGHTS/etc.) UNLESS defending somthing form other peoples complaints.

Also, please don't insult the actual posters by saying cruel things that are just opinion i.e. "Republicans(or Democrats) Suck Insert swear word here."
Have fun.

Personally, I don't much care for Bush, but I also don't trust Dean, Leiberman, or the other candidates. Especially not Pat Robertson, who's an admitted racist. And personally, I don't really think Clinton was all that special. He's got a big smile on his face because 9/11 didn't happen under his watch.

I don't think Bush ruined the economy. Without 9/11, it probably wouldn't have been too different now that it was in early 01.

Yoshmaster5, come on. If you aren't going to contribute intelligent arguments or thoughts, don't post at all. Don't just come up with "BUSH SUCKS" and leave it at that.

I do not care for Bush. I do not agree with any of his policies and he has done nothing except talk about improving war methods. I'm not implying that the goverment was perfect before he came into office, but I will say certain problems have gotten worse.

The patriot act? Isn't that the right to execute any person or persons if they are suspected to have contributed in a terrorist act knowing or unknowingly? ::shivers:: If it's the same thing, I read about that. It's just not right.

I don't like Bush at all. He recently proclaimed "National Marriage Week" or something. He says "Marriage is a sacred union between made between a man and a woman which we must strive to preserve the sanctity of."... something along those lines. He vehemently opposes gay rights. He can't pronounce nuclear. Basically, he's conservative while I subscribe largely to left-wing philosophies.

I don't like our government. It's unfair, like all governments, and one day it will have to come to an end (like every government does). Sucks that humanity can't find a way to manage itself.

GOD, I'm so glad someone else gets irritated when he pronounces "Nuclear" wrong. NU-CLEE-AR. NOT NU-CU-LAR. Jesus, Bush.

And about the gay rights...well, I hate to say this, and this isn't to offend any Texans, but it has heavily to do with where he's from. There are so many closed-minded people down here in Texas, people who believe they're the greatest Christians to ever walk the land, but when it comes to gays, they can't wait to shoot 'em. It's part of the reason why I cannot stand living here.

Yes, it does suck that human nature can't do that.

FWIW, Tim Allen also says nu-cu-ler. Just watch Big Trouble.

I'm not sure of the Patriot Act includes executions or not. If it does, it probably falls under the treason clause in the constitution. Which, technically, execution is the punishment for treason, but isn't enforced anymore. John Walker Lindh is a perfect example of this.

If you want someting to be mad about, why is the statute of limitations on rape 5 years? Traffic warrants are pursued longer.

The Patriot Act... I don't think that it has much to do with execution, however I havn't acctually read it and I'm starting to wonder if anybody has, we've only heard bits and peices. Anyway, it basically say's that the government has the right to search all of your personal belongings (house, mail, work, phone line, etc.) without warent OR your permission. It pretty much gives the power to spy and arrest people/charge them without a truely good reason. I don't like the gov't as it is for WAY to many reasons to list here and now, but I also don't see to many new people comming in with good idea's. I'm gonna have to start paying closer attention 'cause this is the first time I get to vote (YAY!), and if at all possible (i.e. if it's an actual fair election!) I'd like my vote to count and be made on an informed judgment.

Can you explain that to me? I'm sorry, I'm not good at what a lot of these things mean. It sounds like it would irritate me, though.

Basically, if you've been raped and you don't press charges within 5 years then it's just tough luck (this is only for adults though, child rape is different). Where as the gov't can pursue traffic violations for more than 5 years... say 10 or somthing. I hope that explained it, sometimes I sound confusing and don't realize it.

It means that if a rapist isn't caught within 5 years of the initial report and charge, the case or cases are closed and most likely never reopened.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Dude...that's just sick. What the hell?! >.<; I suppose Traffic violations are SO much more important and it's SO much more imperative that we put a stop to that instead of rape. How stupid of me.

I know, it's stupid. I don't think it's fiar for a speeding ticket to get more attention then a violated person, but their criminal law for you.

To be frank, I hate the lot of politicians. I don't like conservatives because they seem to be set on creating a country that enforces two-parent, two-child, two-car-garage families. I don't particularly like liberals either, though they annoy me less than conservatives. They seem to be disorganized and unable to get back into power. Oh well, I can't vote anyways, so my opinion doesn't matter much at all.

I'm Canadian, and I hate how our government focuses almost solely on the east and never does anything about us in the west.

About Bush, I don't know too much about him but one thing about him that I do dislike is how he bases alot of his arguments on stuff from the bible (ie. gay marriages), he needs to realize that not all Americans are christian.
