My Aunt was diagnosed with it on Monday, ovarian cancer... because of that she can never have kids...
That's the reason I haven't been on for a few days... worried...

Oh, what a terribly sad topic, my heart goes out to any who know or have themselves any form of this desies. My fav. teacher had a rare form of breast cancer that was supposed to be terminal, but she had a possitive attitude, lived for the moment (since she might not have had that many left), and pulled through and is allive and kicking to this day. Also my Greatgrandfather died of a brain tumor, but I didn't know him so it didn't effect me.
Yoshmaster 5, and anybody else dealing with this, I would recomend the movie Wit (Staring Emma Thompson). It was an HBO special a few years back and is EXCELENT. However, be warned that it is sad and the end is debatable between sad and happy. I do, however, feel that it was a wonderfull film that dealt with the subject matter bluntly.

One of my favorite teachers has breast cancer. Shehad to get her breast removed... and I get extremely pissed when people maken fun of her because of it. I can't believe people can be so unfeeling. It's like, you have it removed or you die... and I'm sure it must be a difficult thing for a woman to do.
My grandfather also died of lung cancer 3 years ago (smoking, of course). That was my first experience with death. When my grandma died, I was too young to understnd or see her in the hospital. But I saw my grandpa on his deathbed and it messed me up for weeks. I had to say "goodbye" to him, literally, and it was just... I can't describe it. I was in utter pain.

*Nods* People just don't understand the pain women go through when they have to make that choice. It's just as horrible when they have to have their ovaries removed. My mother had to have a hysterectomy, and she felt pretty empty after it for a while. It's almost as if a part of their womanhood is gone...in fact, it IS that way. I felt badly for her.Jeff wrote:One of my favorite teachers has breast cancer. Shehad to get her breast removed... and I get extremely pissed when people maken fun of her because of it. Loosing somthing, due to anything, is tough. But especially women when they loose there Breasts/ovaries. Breasts are almost an outward symbol of women hood in our society, and ovaries are what acctually give women the estrogen that, well, makes them women. However, just 'cause you loose part of your physical body dosn't mean that you are a different person, they didn't change YOU, just part of your body. It's sad when people loose somthing and become obsessed with it and acctually end up loosing more. I'm rambling now so I'll get back on topic. Dose anybody know if they've got any closer to finding a better cure for cancer than Radiation, or at least more localized?

my Aunt Kathleen said that my Aunt Renee started crying when she found out that she couldn't have any children because of the cancer... in one a tumor was 22 pounds, the other... 10 pounds.Jed-kun wrote:Loosing somthing, due to anything, is tough. That is sooo sad!!! Lots of cancers like Ovarian, Uteren, and Prostait can prevent people from having kids.

Yeah, it is really sad when someone get's cancer, it's such a hard time for the victim, and their family and friends. My thoughts and feelings go out to anyone affected by cancer.
I sadly have to say that I knew someone with it. I knew him since elementary school, even though I didn't know him as well as others, he was a good friend, and became closer in junior high to when he moved in the summer of 1998. He was a junior after that summer and me a sophmore, and that spring in 1999, he was diagnosed with a rare form of lukemia. It hit home hard, but all of us who knew him kept our faith, our youth group always prayed for him, and the hospital he was at down there sets up little home pages for their patients for family and staff to keep updated and have anyone leave comments and we kept leaving entries in the guestbook, some of us everyday that summer.
However, around 8:30AM on March 30, 2000, he had died. If that wasn't bad enough, since our school decided to not announce it when called that day (and you'll see that's a key factor as to why I hate the principal with a passion), approximetly 12 hours later on the ride home from school, my mom told me that our youth advisor called with the news earilier, which made me the first student to know, which in a sense made it my responsibility to tell the others. After crying myself to sleep, that next morning I prepared to do that hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I decided to write a small thing to be read on the announcements, and wrote his name on the band room board with his years on it. I almost kept reserved, tried to avoid any contatct with anyone because I knew I'd break down, and it worked up until I wrote on the board, when someone asked me in a worried tone "What about Steve?" She kept asking, and I couldn't take anymore, simply said "He's dead," finished writing 2000, and broke down in tears as she ran in the hall calling another good friend in the omg tone voice. I don't really want to get in to the rest of that day, but I pray to God that no one EVER has to do that. Just remembering that day brings tears to my eyes.
Cancer is a terrible desiese, and like I said above, my heart and prayers go out to all victims and their families and friends with hopes that things will turn for the better and that no one has to suffer through a loss.

Dan, that is so sad. I'm sorry you had to go through that. *hugs*
It's weird with my aunt..I barely knew her, becuase she had just married my uncle like a year before. I had only met her maybe twice. But she was a nice person, and my uncle loved her so much. It was amazing the way she held on to life..she was supposed to die a lot earlier, but she kept living, and i'll always admire her spirit throughout that time. I feel so badly for my uncle...he finally finds someone he truly loves (after two other failed marriages), spend only a year or so with her, and then she's gone.

I can relate to everyone here. My granddad died of cancer last May. He was 86 1/2. A WW2 veteran. He was also the father I never had.

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well.
Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.
