My pet peeve at the Department of Corrections when I worked there was people coming up to the window and asking if there is a public restroom when the sign saying "No Public Restrooms in this building" is staring them in the face!! It makes me want to scream. Especially since it's posted in the window, in the window beside the door, and on the wall! I made those signs myself even, in big bold letters, with a yellow background! Another time the background was pink or something. I bet they'd still ask even if i put it in big neon lights that flash and move.
Yes, thank you.
And as for the sign...god, I know how you feel. We have one entrance and one exit. There's directly across from eachother and at opposite ends of the store. They cannot go out the entrance because it's an automated door and only opens one way. People ALWAYS park near the entrance,a nd so therefore, they want to go out that way. We have this big green sign that says "EXIT IS AT OTHER END OF STORE", and it seems invisible to them. Then, when you point it out, they get all irritated. "Well, I want to go out this way." "You can't. The door won't open." "Well, I parked over here." "....Ma'am, the door still won't open." Then, they flip out, stalk over to the exit, and leave. Now here's the really stupid part: They always want to go out the entrance because it's "closer", but in reality, the distance from the registers and to the entrance is the same as the distance between the exit and their car.
Dumbasses.
I can totally relate. I worked at Superstore, selling Christmas trees outside the store (people have to pay inside, and we just help people pick out a tree and bring it to their cars) for three weeks in December last year. We have an enterance and an exit at the front of the store. Because our shirts were long and it was cold outside, we were allowed back inside the enterence to warm up. The doors are automated, but they can be opened from the insideby pulling them apart. You could also push them open in case of an emergency. But when we did that, we would raise our hand to the censor so that the door would close again. We don't wear uniforms since we worked outside, but we wore ID cards around our necks. When people clearly saw an employee exiting through the enterence, they figured it was okay for them to do it too. They would pull the doors open, but they wouldn't raise their hand to the censor so that the door would close again. Then the door would stay partially open until someone else came to the enterence. That just annoyed the hell out of me.
Another time was when I worked at Mcdonald's the summer after grade ten:
Woman: Could I get a chicken mcgrill and chicken nuggets?
Me: what size of chicken niggets would you like? We have a four pack, six pack and a ten pack.
Woman: Six pack please. How long will it take to cook?
Me: 3 minutes
Woman: 3 minutes? I want you to take two minutes!
Me: But, m'am, it takes 3 minutes to cook.
Woman: But it should only take 2 minutes!
Me: I'm sorry, but...
*Woman storms out the the restaurent*
I also find it offensive when people refer to Japanese as 'Jap'. Whenever I play my j-pop music, my entire family tells me 'Meghan, turn off the Jap crap!' They also refer to anything they see Japanese, they call it 'Jap crap'. I've talked numerous times about that, but they still insist on calling it 'Jap crap'. It offends me a lot.
