What kind of new TV show would you like to see?
Don't just say something like, "Something GOOD", because that's definitely number 1. I mean, would you like to see a TV show about someone with a different religion, or someone who's a military brat or a foster child, or anything else? I thought those might be some things I'd like to see on TV, and I have more but I have to think. How about you?
The Facts of the Animal Kingdom:
"Zebras can bite."
"Snakes say sss."
"Lions chase people."
And of course…”Tigers bite you.”
--From Tiffu’s Pre-K students. =D
And one from me...Leopards are gorgeous.

OK, follow me here: the only real network TV show I like these days is "House," about the doctor who is mean, boorish, insulting, and supremely competent. This is virtually unheard of in television-land; if you're a jerk, it follows that you're bad at your job. Here the rule is broken and the show rocks. However, the limitations of the hospital show format mean that a lot of character relationships have to be written to keep it from being too dry. Compare with the Law and Order series in which everything is about the case and the characters' personal lives get no more than a few minutes in a season. So what I want to see are shows set in a more accessible profession than medicine, centered around the "genius asshole" character.
In the same vein what I'd like to see is a well done show based on the magical character type. As it is, all characters with powers are either not fully competent, or charged to use their powers to fight evil, or (increasingly) both. Charmed, Medium, Joan of Arcadia, all those type shows. Just once I want to see a character whose magic is there for their own satisfaction and pleasure. You know who really got it right? Bewitched, with its portrayal of witches as upper-crust socialites with magic in place of money or class. My model for the perfect show: take The BOFH, extend each one to 30 minutes, and change technology to magic.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

If you want to watch a show about "genius asshole" characters, then you should watch Traders. The majority of it's main characters are respected professionals who vary in their degrees of assholery (loud mouthed "Do it my way and only my way" asshole, aloof, dry witted asshole, desperately seeking anger managment asshole, and classy, charming, but manipulative asshole.)So what I want to see are shows set in a more accessible profession than medicine, centered around the "genius asshole" character

Sounds cool, only it doesn't seem to be available in the States. And I don't speak Canadian--has anyone fansubbed it? ^_^ It would be cool to actually see Terri Hawkes in the flesh though.

Sailorasteroid-"Speak Canadian?" Aside from French, I thought Canadians spoke English. I went there once and the only language problems were with my Dad messing up the French in Quebec.
As for the topic, I can't think of live-action shows I'd like, since I prefer animated stuff (especially anime). If anime counts here, then my ideal anime would have these characteristics:
-The art style and bright hair colors of Wedding Peach.
-The character personalities and setting of Azumanga Daioh.
-Emphasis on comedy, not romance (like Azumanga Daioh) and mostly females (like Azumanga Daioh)
-Characters with magic powers.
-Some fat anime characters.
-At least one stupid character who wears glasses.
-A character who is cold and stern but also clumsy.
I suppose if only live-action stuff (or American shows) count here, then it could have all the stuff I mentioned but not the first thing about the Wedding Peach art style.

Joke on my part (see the smiley?) because Canadian-only TV shows are virtually unheard of in the US. And because Canada roxx0rs.Rainbow wrote:Sailorasteroid-"Speak Canadian?" Ah. I didn't know what that smiley meant, or else I ignored it. Thanks for explaining.

With all the obscure Canadian references in our shows, you may need a fansub to know what the Hell is going on ^_^. Since you have an interest in Traders I'll send you a PM so that my ZoMG tRaD3R5 f@NGuRL mode doesn't drag this topic off.
As for shows I'd like to see, as much as I've bitched about reality T.V. sucking, I've grown to like three Reality shows. Right now I love Hell's Kitchen, Nanny 911, and Trading Spouses and would like to see more shows like them. Hell's Kitchen reminds me of Jamie's Kitchen (which I also enjoyed), so I'd really like to see more hot British chefs on T.V. yelling and swearing at people to make better meals.
I'd like to see more shows like Nanny 911 and Trading Spouses because for some reason I like watching families that are incredibily screwed up.
Better talk shows would be nice because there's only so many times you can watch Maury say "You are not the father". I wish he'd show more of the unruly teenage daughters that need a good ass kicking.
That's all I can think of for now.

Well, I couldn't give you a full outline off the top of my head, but there are a few elements I would like to see in a new show.
- A distinct lack of cheesy sexual tension that was just put there for it's own sake.
- Fight scenes on trains, mountains, and/or rooftops.
- Women that can actually be interesting on their own merit.
- Plots and events that don't talk down to the audience.
- Explosions.
It's not going to happen, but I can dream.

This is coindiential considering right now i'm in the middle of writing a sitcom. I'm not professional or anything. This is just a side project and if i'm lucky, someone will actually want to make it. I'm currently working on the outline for the pilot.
I want to see a return of the funny sitcoms of old. You know, where the jokes were relatively clean and the stories somewhat believeable. Where you get to know the characters so well that they almost seem real. Frankly I'd like a show that didn't make wanting to be a good person seem stupid. Lately it feels like if you have any high standards you're dull and unacceptable.
*sigh* if I want change, I have to take charge. wish me luck!

Actually, I just had an idea for a TV show:
Take about 8 socially awkward and unathletic people, put them in a gymnasium, give them an exercise program, and then have them compete to see who the next socially awkward Joshua Jeffries will be.
Where my not-too-sudden interest in gymnastics sprang from, I have no clue. FYI: Joshua Jeffries was this year's Australian finalist for the World Gymnastics Championships. He lost out seriously--largely due to not being built for a pommel horse.

Couldn't tell you ^_^;. I never went to public highschool and I honestly didn't know what Degrassi was until last week when it was on a T.V. special called "Canada's ten best shows in the last twenty years" and it placed number one for some mind boggling reason.So...are Canadian schools anything like on Degrassi?

Maybe it was just the capacity to make people think Canadians actually said the word "aboot". I myself have known about Degrassi for about 15 years--about the time that Degrassi High first aired down here (although I started with Degrassi Junior High).peachvampiress wrote:Jusenkyo no PikachuCouldn't tell you ^_^;. I also wouldn't mind seeing a revamped version of Kids Incorporated (aka the show that gave us Martika, Wild Orchid, Black Eyed Peas' Fergie and Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as serving as a springboard for Mario López and Shanice), although if someone does put it on, I suggest they put as much effort into the script as they do into selling the band.
