DOOM: the movie

Post by RoastedTwinkies » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:46 pm

Yes! The famous computer game is coming to the big screen folks! I'm not sure about you guys, but I haven't seen the previews airing on TV yet, and the movie comes out this Friday! I find it really strange that the commericals aren't airing. I wonder why... the only reason why I know about this is because I saw the poster at a local fair recently.

From the previews, the movie looks really exciting! I like the fact that they're showing much of this movie from the first-person perspective like it was in the video game.

What do you think?

o.O the preview has been playing like..every commercial break here. It looks so fucking stupid x_X

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

It looks lame.

I liked the games, too... but c'mon.

Basically what I got from the previews is it has no plot and is just an excuse to run around and blow up monsters. Which is fine for a video game. Not for a movie.

Judging that the movie is currently getting a measily 21% on the tomatometer, I think I'll pass on this. That, and there's no satanic references in this at all. What's Doom without Satan? :P

I saw the movie yesterday with my boyfriend i thought it was going to be so boring but it wasn't. I think the the rock is so hot but not only that the visual affects were pretty good to. I wouldn't waste $8 on it though so unless someone else is paying or your a big Doom fan don't bother.

So it turns out that Doom is in fact released in Canada despite the lack of TV commercials. Maybe the trailers weren't approved by the Alberta Film Board? I have no idea. But, I saw ads for it in the paper this weekend. w00t!

A bit of news to pass along...

Earnings for the Oct 21–23 weekend: $15,488,870
Earnings for the Oct 28–30 weekend: $4,228,385
(from boxofficemojo.com)

That's more than a 70% drop in ticket sales. That, quite simply, is a very bad sign for a film that cost $60 mil to make. (And no telling how much to market.)

As I said earlier, Doom w/o the devil isn't Doom, so I didn't bother to see it. And have no interest in seeing it either.

I would go to see the movie no problem. But, then again, I can get a free movie ticket every week from my college which means I won't have to pay for my Harry Potter movie ticket.

So, I finally saw the movie over the weekend.

This. movie. sucks. big. time.
The movie turned out to be a big disappointment. I thought there would be more monsters from the video game, but there wasn't. I also thought there would have been more scenes from the first person perspective than what there was. The only monster we got to see from the video game was the pink demon really briefly. All the other monsters were like your typical Hollywood monsters. They looked similar to the brown demons, but they didn't spit fire; they just attacked people with their tongues.

Also, there weren't really that many monsters in this movie to begin with.
So basically, it barely has any reference to the original games. Good thing I passed on it. And it looks like others are doing the same, it earned less than half of what it earned last week. Making a guestimate, it'll finish a little over $30 mil, about half of what it cost to make it. Guess this'll be yet another name to be added to the VG-to-film hall of shame.

So I bought Doom 3 today. I have never played Doom 3 before now. It turns out that the movie is more based on Doom 3, rather than the older games. The old Doom games didn't really have much of a storyline, while Doom 3 does. The plot in the movie is vertually identical to the one in Doom 3 from what I've seen in it so far.

However, I still like the older games more because they were simple. You got to start shooting monsters right away, whereas in Doom 3, I keep being sent on these missions and I haven't blasted any monsters yet!

So the Doom movie is a LOT more accurate than I thought it was. But I still think it could have been a lot better.

Having played through Doom 3 and reading what you wrote about the movie, it isn't. Satan and hell are very much in Doom 3 (the first qoute in my sig is from Doom 3 when you find the doctor)
In fact, the bald man's plan is to build teleportation technology to get hell here and to earth and the last level takes place in hell
All the monsters are there also with some new ones, too. And it only took me a couple minutes at most to get through the first part and to the monsters. How long were you playing?

What I wrote before is simply an observation from what I've played in Doom 3 so far.
I've only been playing Doom 3 since yesterday. I'm still at the beginning, looking for the missing scientist. So, I haven't got to the monsters yet. However, look at where the game is taking place. It's taking place on Mars, we're looking for missing scientists, and that's what was identical in the movie.
