Movie goofs

Post by Jusenkyo no Pikachu » Wed Aug 24, 2005 9:41 am

Every so often, you'll be watching a movie. And, no matter how meticulously the movie's made, you'll note something wrong, like, say, the fog in Casablanca or the title of Krakatoa, East of Java.

This thread is for the goofs that have most entertained you.

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE
This film is riddled with them, so here are some of the more notable ones:
--Many scenes switch between day and night
--When the flying saucer passes over the graveyard, it knocks the characters down. This also causes a cardboard cross to knock over.
--For that matter, whenever the flying saucers pass overhead, the exhaust knocks the characters down, but doesn't mess their hair up.
--Vampire Woman must have practised ninjitsu. It's the only way I can think of that she could be watching her own funeral.
--Watch the scene where Kelton and the detective are inspecting Clay's recently abandoned grave. The detective points his gun all over the place.
--Trent says the saucers are cigar-shaped. I'd think that he, having actually experienced the events of the opening scenes, would know that they were saucers.
--And, in what must be the most famous B-movie technical gaffe ever, Bela Lugosi is seen leaving his house and getting killed by a car. However, when his character rises from the dead, it's now an obvious double who is a foot taller than Bela was, and plays the part with a cape to cover the fact that he isn't really Bela.

STAR WARS
--There is sound in the space scenes. Sound requires air in order to travel.
--famous error from this movie: A stormtrooper bangs his head on a bulkhead. Which is odd considering the stormtroopers are actually all clones.
--other famous error: Lightsabres would generate a lot of heat. Therefore, the bloody arm in the cantina scene would have been cauterized.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
--The carpet disappears during Columbia's tap dance.
--When Dr Scott is summoned to the lab, the wire used to pull the wheelchair is clearly visible.
--Incorrectly regarded as goofs: During the church scene, what looks like a boom can be seen. Closer inspection reveals that this is a lamp.

AKIRA
--During the giant teddybear scene, Tetsuo steps on some broken glass, which cuts his foot. Later on in the hospital scene, his foot is uharmed.

ANNIE
--The movie is set in 1933, but the film Annie goes to is Camille, which was made in 1936

AMERICAN BEAUTY
--In the scene where Ricky shows Jane the plate, the glass in the door disappears between shots.
--There is no way that Col. Fitts could have seen Lester and the two Jims running towards him.

2010
--The screens in 2001 were all flat screens. Here, they are CRTs.

I can only think of one.

In the first Spiderman-movie, the Green Goblin showes up and throw a bomb at a building (on the outside), but when it blows, the explosion comes from inside of that building. That seems kinda wrong to me.
My youtube-account / My multiply-account

I dunno. I was just looking at it and I suddenly got this urge to get inside. No, not just an urge - more than that. It was my destiny to be here; in the box. And then when I put it on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner peace. I can´t put it into words. I feel... safe. Like this is where I was meant to be. Like I´d found the key to true happiness.

I´m some kind of high powered mutant, never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Bad luck! I´m are suffering from Rivalee´s Syndrome.
Cause: thinking too hard
Symptoms: aphasia, vague gills, mildly squeaky voice, eyelid swelling
Cure: cryogenic freezing until science catches up

Superman II
--The criminals are shown communicating vocally in space. Although I have no problem with Superman being able to fly into space (especially since post-Crisis Superman can only stay for a limited period of time), the absence of air should make talking a problem. In the same sequence, Ursa is shown being able to hear an astronaut. Unless Kryptonians are sensitive to radio waves (I never followed the comics), this should also be impossible.
--For that matter, all space scenes have flapping clothes (including Superman's sign-off).

Solarbabies (I know I'm not the only person who has seen this movie)
--The glacier Greentree mentions should have dried up long ago. Last I checked, lava was very very hot.
--When Metron skates up to the Aqua Bunker, he's wearing his skates. However, as he vaults over the gate, his footwear momentarily changes to normal shoes.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
--"Momentarily" in its British English usage means "for a moment", not "in a moment" as Professor McGonagall states. It's extremely unlikely that an old British woman would use the word in its American use.
--Several extras appear to be chosen for multiple houses.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
--One sequence shows someone exiting a car on the left-hand (American) side. However, the car is clearly Australian: the steering wheel is on the right of the car. This is because the movie was shot in Sydney (as is evidenced by the skating sequence early on).
--The "comet" is actually a fireball.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
--A plane hitting water at that velocity would have its wings ripped off.

if you go to imdb.com and type in the name of the movie... you can see all the goofs for it hehe

Star Wars Episode I The Phontom Menace:
The shadows that the battle-droids leave on the ground when escorting the captured Queen across the courtyard do not match the shot from above just before the Jedi Knights leap down to rescue them.
When the Gungan army set up their shield at the Naboo plains, you see the Trade Federation tanks coming over the hill. When the camera turns to behind the tanks, you see the bottom of one of the beige tanks disappear slowly.
When Qui-Gon asks Obi-Wan to check Anakin's midichlorian count, Obi-Wan says that he has a count of "over twenty thousand", but if you watch his lips he is clearly saying "ten thousand".
In the scene when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are talking to Jar Jar when they first arrive on Naboo, Obi-Wan's hair is wet. When Jar Jar spins around and Obi-Wan is forced to duck, his hair suddenly becomes dry. In the next shot it is wet again.
When Darth Maul and Obi-Wan are fighting at the end of the film, Darth Maul hits Obi-Wan's light saber three times but there are four clashing sounds.
When Darth Maul is killed, he is holding his lightsaber as he falls. When we switch shots to see him falling, he has no lightsaber and we do not see one falling through the air.
During the pod race, Anakin's face switches between being dirty and being clean several times.
: In the Boardroom in Otoh Gunga, as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon turn to leave, you can see Obi-Wan's lapel mic just inside his tunic.
As Anakin and Qui-Gon are heading to the Queen's ship, Anakin says, "Qui-Gon sir, wait, I'm tired." But his lips are moving only half the time.
Queen Amidala slips just after they have taken the viceroy hostage in the throne room.
In the final scene of the movie, you can see a girl in a peach colored dress standing behind R2-D2 and Anakin. A few shots later, she is seen in the foreground of a shot of children throwing confetti down onto the parade. A few shots later she is back behind R2-D2, Anakin, and the Queen.

Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones:
When Padme falls from the ship Dooku shot, she can be heard screaming, but her lips do not move.
When Obi-Wan talks to Yoda about who might have erased Kamino from the Jedi Archives, Yoda is instructing Younglings in sabre technique. In one shot an alien Youngling appears in the back of the class, in the next, he's in front of the class. When the shot re-establishes, the alien is once again in the back of the class.
When Obi Wan sends the message for help to Anakin and Amidala, Amidala presses a red button in order to transmit the message to the Jedi council. A minute later she presses the same red button in order to view a map of a galaxy, without first doing anything which might be expected to change the function of the button.
After Obi Wan sends the message for help to Anakin and Amidala, Amidala says she is going to Geonosis to "help Obi Wan", though her lip movement indicates she is going to "save Obi Wan."
The space traffic seen in the window of Palpatine's office repeats itself exactly during every scene, day or night.
When Anakin is talking to Padme on the red couch his profile shows his mouth is moving, but he says nothing.
During the fireplace conversation, in one of the "over-Anakin's-shoulder" shots, Anakin stops talking, but we see him say another line.
The nexu rips into Padmé's back with razor sharp claws and cuts clean through her top, digging into her flesh, yet later on there is no wound to be seen.
When Obi-Wan is talking to Jango and Boba in their "apartment", Obi-Wan pauses. He's not moving and you can see the back of his head. When Jango walks behind Obi-Wan on the screen, you can see Jango's "shadow" through Obi-Wan.

Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith
During Anakin and Obi Wan's final fight, bodies on the floor appear and disappear between shots.
When Anakin arrives at Mustafar he tells R2-D2 to stay with the ship. As Anakin walks away he puts his hood on. His right hand (his mechanical hand covered by a glove) has somehow turned back into flesh again.
In the scene where Anakin enters the temple accompanied by the army of clones, the sound is of lots of people marching together, but the visual shows them walking out of step with each other.
In the final sequence on Tatooine, when Obi Wan is handing the infant Luke to Beru, he opens his cloak to bring the baby out as he approaches her. This is first seen in a long shot from above. There is a cut to a two-shot, and he opens his cloak and extracts the baby again.
During the scene when Yoda enters a room to confront Darth Sidious and knocks the two guards unconscious using the force, the position of the guard's bodies shift during their fight scene and are positioned (conspicuously conveniently) out of the way.

Star Wars: Episode IV A new Hope (original movie)
The R2 unit with the bad motivator appears back in the lineup after he explodes.
Just before Alderaan is destroyed, Governor Tarkin asks the Princess "You would prefer another target, a military target, then name the system!" In the reaction shot of the Princess you can see Tarkin's mouth moving but there is no sound.
Scenes from outside the Millennium Falcon indicate it has four windows, yet shots from the inside indicate three.
After Ben has been killed, the blast door closes completely. The next shot shows it closing again, giving the impression that it closed on Vader's gown opens, and then closes again
It is frequently claimed that upon returning to the Rebel base after destroying the Death Star, Luke exclaims, "Carrie!" when he hears Leia (Carrie Fisher) call "Luke!" Sound designer Ben Burtt has confirmed that, after extensive listening, it appears to be "Hey" or "Yay"; 'Mark Hamill' reports that he said, "Hey! There she is!" but mumbled the last word. Yet, trained lip readers report only two syllables being spoken and they look like Carrie.
When the Falcon is escaping the Death Star, they are pursued by four fighter craft. After three of the fighters are destroyed, what should be the lone remaining craft is next seen accompanied by another. The second craft apparently reassembles itself just long enough for this one fly-by, as it is not seen again (this was corrected in the Special Edition, as only one TIE fighter is visible in the shot).
During the fighter sequence, rebel pilot Porkins (who clearly identifies himself as Red 6) is the first pilot killed in the battle. Yet later a voice over the radio says "Red 6, can you see Red 5?" Oddly enough, a voice seems to answer.
When the Death Star is approaching the planet to destroy it, the countdown as shown on the computer display does not match the announcement over the PA.
As Princess Leia is about to undergo interrogation by a droid in her cell, the needle bears the legend "Made In England" (of course, England could be a small planet on the outer edge of the Empire, famous for its medical suppliers).
At the start of the Vader vs. Ben lightsabre battle, when Ben turns his on, a cord can be seen that runs up Ben's sleeve.
When Luke returns to the Lars homestead to find it destroyed, in all shots from behind Luke (or from his point of view) the wind is blowing from his left; all shots facing Luke show it blowing from his right.
When the Millennium Falcon enters the Death Star, the rod holding it is visible for a short time.

Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back
When Luke is asking his tauntaun if she smells something just before the wampa attack, the boom mike is reflected in his goggles.
When the Millennium Falcon is inside the worm and a tremor makes Princess Leia fall on Han Solo she says, "Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited", Han Solo is mouthing her line.
Dead Captain Needa helps the Empire crewman that picks up his dead body.
When Luke is fighting Vader, just after he does his summersault, you can see a crewmember on the platform move out of the way.
When Luke is doing a handstand, lifting cases and Artoo, the wires holding his feet up are visible.
Flipped shot. When Han Solo first walks into the command center and the camera cuts to Princess Leia, she's looking at him over her right shoulder. In subsequent shots, she's looking at him over her left shoulder. The men on either side of her are switched as well.
During Darth Vader and Lukes light saber battle, Darth knocks Luke down a flight of stairs. Darth then leaps through the air and the wires attached to his back are visible.

Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi
After Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother and kisses him, she removes her hand twice from Han's neck. Also in the next shot, when Han kisses Leia back, his hand disappears from Leia's face.
When Vader is searching for Luke in the Emperor's throne room, he is holding his ignited 'red blade' lightsabre in his right hand, and another un-ignited lightsabre handle in him left hand. This is because of a deleted scene where Luke throws his lightsabre out to Vader.
On the Endor moon, Leia is shot in the shoulder. Han lifts her out of the way and, in so doing, touches her left breast, causing her grimace of pain to change to a broad grin. --- HEHe I find that hilairous
Any actor playing an armed Ewok had to have the thumbs cut off of their costume so they could grip the weapon. Most visible when Wicket is poking Leia with his spear.

Those aren't all of them either. sad huh?

Superman
-At the climax of the film, Superman flies up (presumably faster than the speed of light) and appears to undo the Earth's rotation to take it back in time a few hours. In reality, this would cause everything not nailed down to go flying off.
-For that matter, I don't understand the whole reversal of time thing anyway. I mean, shouldn't Lois still be dead?

Show Me Love
-Elin is wearing lipstick during the first kiss, but it doesn't transfer to Agnes' mouth like it should.
-The film is set in Åmål but, since officials wouldn't let the crew film there, it was shot in Trollhättan. The only artifact from Åmål is the sign in the bridge scene.
--In order to get Agnes' attention at the film's end, Elin throws pebbles at her window, which breaks the window. However, Agnes' room is on the second floor of the house. It is nearly impossible to break second-floor windows with pebbles.
--After Elin and Agnes kiss for the first time, Agnes attempts to slit her wrists. However, she does not do a good job of it and Elin interrupts. Several other times, we see brief glimpses of Agnes' wrist, without any trace of a scar.
Possible correction to goof on IMDB: During the birthday scene, Agnes' mother answers a doorbell to welcome in the wheel-chair-bound Viktoria. There are stairs up to the doorbell. However, this might not have been the only instance during which Viktoria has visited the house, and they may have a second bell installed especially for her.

I don't really like discussing movie mistakes because it kind of takes away the magic, and half the stuff on moviemistakes.com look like you have to rewind, pause, and zoom a few times just to get them. But I'll admit, that ledge scene in Jurassic Park is kind of funny.

D.E.B.S.
--After the shootout at Les Deux Amours, the D.E.B.S. all split up and somehow Lucy and Amy literally run into each other. They pull their guns on each other, and Lucy charms Amy out of an arrest. During this sequence, we see individual shots of both Lucy and Amy, and despite the range at which they're shown during the two-shot, neither individual shot shows the other gun.
--In fact, there's a gaffe during the shootout. The FBI, CIA and Homeland Security are all shown to be staking out Lucy's date with Ninotchka, yet, aside from Bobby's shooting the champagne bottle, all three of those groups go unnoticed.
--When the D.E.B.S. are en route to the bank, Phipps says that it's coming up on the left. It comes up on the right.
--As Lucy remarks, D.E.B.S. security is for shit. It's obviously on 24/7, because even though it's shit, it's better than what us common folk have. However, Dominique is repeatedly shown with a guy in her room. Although Amy and Janet are both shown walking through the (very plaid) forcefield, Lucy is shown using something akin to a glass-cutter. So how does Dominique manage to get guys in every night?

Dr Who and the Daleks
--For menacing beings, the Daleks are amazingly stupid. Certainly, they completely fail to notice when Ian is in the Dalek suit, despite an obvious voice change (and the Daleks almost certainly rely on external hearing).
--In 1965, Daleks could only move on flat surfaces (meaning they were buggered if they ever encountered a flight of stairs), so what the hell is with the weight sensor?

Daleks' Invasion: Earth 2150 AD
--What use does a Dalek have for a CB radio? Couldn't they just have a radio in the console?

Well, this one was one I pointed out when I first watched the movie instead of having to watch it 36 more times to see it. You should congratulate me on it. It was fun watching the movies. I got to see Jesse Metcalfe and Brittany Snow again. Jesse played Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions and Brittany played Susan "Daisy" Lemay on Guiding Light. Anyway, here is the goof:

In the scene where Scott is talking to Kate in the school lobby about how he's supposed to be a spy for John, look background when they're both staring into each others' eyes. In one shot there are two people by the pillar, 2 seconds later they're gone. Then Kate says "Go, fight, roar" and suddenly those two people are there again.

Here is one from "See Spot Run":

In the beginning, Gordon is driving his truck and "drinking" something out of a thermal mug. He's be-bopping around so much it would have spilled all over him. If you look closely, you can see he's not really drinking at all.
