Wow, I honestly can't believe this. Today we were at Wal-Mart and what do I see? A five year old girl running around in a belly shirt, a mini skirt, and I think they were clogs. Honestly, I don't understand! WHY are parents letting their kids dress like this?

Maybe the parents find it "cute" to let their children dress like they probably do? Or maybe they're living vicariously through their children, and since their parents never let them dress like that, they dress their children as such?

I don't know, but I will never allow my child to dress like that if/when I ever have children.

Hard to believe it wasn't that long ago (maybe ten years?) that children who were in that age group between kids and young adults couldn't get decent clothes that made them look their age. You had 12 and 13 year olds dressing like six year olds. I remember in one of my classes, my teacher showing us a Please Mum advertisement with, I swear, a 13 year old and two 7 year olds wearing matching clothes.

Now they've got adult clothes for five year olds. One extreme to the another.

And good Lord...have you seen the little girls' make-up? They look like fricken clowns!!! And I don't mean the cute Halloween clown, either...
And I'm just worried that when I have kids of my own, all the decent, modest, and ACTUAL CUTE clothes will all be gone. And the only swimwear to buy will be a thong bikini for LITTLE GIRLS. :shock:

Don't worry, just take up knitting and sewing. xD You'll probably end up having to make your kids clothes by yourself or finding someone who can... ^^;

I once saw an eight or youner year old girl in a cropped shirt and a really. Really. REALLY short miniskirt. Panties were visible, methinks.
Her shirt was also see through. It looked like PLASTIC. o.O;
The parents were well-dressed.
... The heck?

But anyways- my principle at my elementary school liked uniforms because that way the girls don't know the rich from the poor because they all wore the same thing, thus no fighting.

I think things like that would make/have made school life a lot easier. >_>; Financial status was big in one of the schools i went to. Making everyone wear the smae thing would have saved some trouble for some students. The only problem is, and this was mentioned before, that not everyone could afford uniforms.

Actually, the slutty clothes are ALOT cheaper than the modest ones. Didn't one of you say you were at Wal-Mart? I don't think they have those in Beverly Hills...

Plus, sex sells. Let's face it. I guess it's because my generation is like this already but I don't see how most of this bothers anyone... How do you know they weren't wearing shirts/skirts like that because it was summer (correct me if I'm wrong here). Culture has roles in this to. I wore belly shirts all the time when I was a kid. I was a tomboy though so I won't comment about the skirt thing.

(I do aggree that the super-short-mini's are a tad innappropriate but those things aren't allowed at a public school anyway...)

I was the one at Wal-Mart. Yeah, it was summer, but the girl could have easily worn a tank top. Name 5 cultures that have something to do with little girls wearing belly shirts and mini skirts!
And about your comment about the super-short-minis, they are allowed in my school.

1 school in a million then.

Belly shirts aren't that bad. Perosnally I think tehy're alot nicer than some other clothes I've seen people wear. It's only my opinion (around here at least) but think some of you are taking this a little to seriously.

Become a teacher. Then make that judgement again.

It's very annoying and can be very hard to teach in a classroom where the four year olds are running around in asspants and bellyshirts. Kids that age DO make sexual comments. If it happens at four, think about what happens at 8. and 13. and so forth. There doesn't NEED to be sexuality in kids that young, especially with kids in preschool and kindergarten. It's unnecessary and it deters from the teachings they need. Kids that age are learning social and life skills, and it's damn hard to teach that while they're making sexual gestures to eachother or comparing whose butt-glitter-writing-pants are better.

There's this wonderful fibre called cotton. It's light weight, soft, and breathable. It's also the most widely used fibre in clothes so it's easy to find. And because it's so breathable you can make clothes that cover your stomache, breasts and ass and keep you cool in the summer. Skank wear for children is fairly recent and kids have been able to keep cool during hot weather for a long time before it.

No need to be a bitch about it, Peachvampiress.

Also, Tiff, I never said kids that age aren't sexual. I just don't understand why you guys think this stuff is fairly recent. I mean there isn't anything that can be done about it really. It's the parents and sometimes the kids themselves but I guess, unless theres ways to subconciously control kids than we're screwed.

(No kids for Panda then. Her kids would be slutty as hell...)

Okay, I really don't want to take this thread off-topic (at least not any more than it already is) but I didn't do anything wrong. I personally think she was being disrespectful to me. If she was being sarcastic she needs to say so and not leave it to be interpreted by people who can only see the text. The way I see it she picked the fight, not me.

While I stated before that I am in favor of uniforms, I am not against sexual dressing in school. It may be distracting, but it's one way the children have a chance to avoid the rigors of education. Children are *forced* to be there, so it's little wonder to me that they want to express that they'd rather be engaged in sexplay than boring learning.

It hearkens back to my own high school day where the big issue was baseball caps. Kids wanted to wear them and the teachers wanted to stop us. An issue of respect, they said. What I wanted to say, but didn't, was A) wearing a hat is not a sign of disrespect among this generation, B) we're less likely to respect you anyway for quibbling over dress and not understanding A, and C) we don't particularly respect you anyway, since you are our chief barriers to an enjoyable day.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

The point of going to school is to get an education, NOT to express yourself or "kill your childhood freedom". As it is, kids get 3 months off in the summer, 3-4 weeks off during the course of the year, endless national and (in some cases) religious holidays, and the weekends. There's a time for play and a time for relaxation, and the school day is NOT that day. Don't want to "force" your kids to go to school? Then don't enroll them, that's your perogative. But if you are putting your kids into an educational system, their responsibility, first and foremost, is to learning, from K all the way to college. Part of that package includes attending to your studies and respecting your elders (something that should be applied to all of society, not just school, but that's another topic entirely). Act "sexual" and "rebellious" all you want when you're out of the classroom, but schools have rules and regulations that you and your children agree to when you sign up, so if you are going to violate them wantonly, might as well just take your kid out of the classroom and educate them yourselves.

Panda has a point. If you have to reprimand her for making a "bitch" comment it's only right to point out that peachvampress was making what appeared to be a smartass comment that would show direspect. I know that sarcastic remark at the begining of her post pissed me off slightly as well.

ADMIN MODE:

Okay, you know what? This ends NOW.

Panda, I don't care WHAT anyone says to you on this board. You CANNOT respond by calling them a bitch or any other name. It's insulting and disrespectful. If you had a problem with what Peach said and a mod DIDN'T catch it, then you were more than welcome to PM a mod about it, and we would have taken care of it. If you felt any mod's decision was unfair, you take it out in PM, not in the public forums. I'm not going to become a babysitter between you and anyone else becuase you two are bickering. It's over and done, drop it. From now on, follow my guidelines above if you have a problem.

peachvampiress, while I understand the point you were trying to make, there wasn't a need for that much sarcasm. I understand you were trying to make a point, but in the future, please tone down with it. I can also understand how someone can interpret it in an insulting manner, and so please next time just explain your point.

Everyone else in this thread: If we cannot discuss this without intelligently and politely expressing our opinoins, I will lock it. I do not want another out of control thread. Be respectful and stop insulting eachother. It's childish. I'm done babysitting this thread. Please be respectful.

Thank you.

THANK YOU TIFF! I have an idea, since this thread seems to be drifting from school uniforms, maybe we could change the thread title to "School Uniforms and Kids Dressing Skanky". It's all up to the admins and mods, though.
