Yah but... wouldn't wearing the guys uniform just get you more made fun of? Just suggesting...

That's another issue. For the schools that require the girls to wear dresses we have the tomboys who despise them. SO they want to wear the guys one and it causes more problems O.O

Also, I don't think having a uniform makes it easy to pick out clothes every morning. If anything it makes it harder. What if you only have two pairs of the uniform? One you wore the first day of school and one you spilt Kool-Aid on yesterday. The first one smells and the second one looks trashy. Where do we go now!

On you first point, not at all. Girls never get made fun of for "cross dressing". It's guys who get made fun of for cross dressing. And on getting your uniform dirty, you should probably wash it everyday. And it just depends on what color it is. If it is white, it's nothing a little bleach couldn't solve.

In my elementary school, we wore uniforms and I couldn't stand them. They weren't really all that bad, we wore red, white, sky blue and navy blue polo shirts or sweatshirts, navy blue pants (or shorts in a couple months) and girls could wear plaid skirts if they wanted to. The skirts had to be knee length. One Friday out of each month we got to have a non-uniform day--everyone looked forward to it.

However, I am totally in favor of uniforms in schools for all the above posts' reasons. I didn't like them at the time... but I don't remember anyone being teased much for their clothes. Of course it was a small Catholic school (only 30-some kids in my grade) and we all had known each other almost our whole lives. When I (eventually) become a parent I know that uniforms would greatly help. And looking back at pictures of all of us--we really looked pretty sharp. No girls facing a wardrobe malfunction?! What an idea!

It's said that the kids won't have to buy as much clothes. But what about their clothes for the weekends, breaks, and summer vacations? There is always a chance they will dress slutty. Then again, as long as it isn't at school so everyone can have a good learning environment. I personally think you shouldn't be allowed to dress slutty until you start high school. And only in free time.

Preferably, people wouldn't dress slutty at all. You can look sexy without looking like a slut.
Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you''ve got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Well, that all depends on what you define as slutty.

uniforms would be cool if they were the sailor uniforms. is that what they wear in japan? well, also, if they had shorter skirts. where i live the skirts are knee length, and they should be shorter. i'm not saying like, slutty short, or anything, but i just dont like long skirts and they should be 1 inch below fingertips, thats a good length.

I like school uniforms, especially the ones in Japan. I`d like to have school uniforms because I don`t have to spend so much time worrying about what to wear to school tomorrow. Also, kids wouldn`t be picked on because of what they wear (that happens way too often in my school, it`s rather annoying) and girls wouldn`t be so uptight about their clothing.

I hate school unifroms. I had to wear one for a month(because I was in that school for a month), and I hated it. I belive that School unifroms should be only in private schools. I also see dressing skanky is a problem but there are dress codes for a reson. In my dress code your not alot to even wear damn TANK tops (unless the sleeves are as wide as a slab od lasanga). Your shirts/skirts have to be past your fingertips (where mine fall pretty high) And if you break them it is weeks of ISS and you have to wear a really ugly shirt for the rest of the day. As a person who likes to dress unigue, and expresses herself through clothes, I hate wearing a unifrom. Because schools over here are strict. At the private school I went too, you couldn't have your hair a certain length, or color. You couldn't have jewlery. Everyone looked the same, like robots. I was in hell. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to be part of a group of same people.

Another problem people bring up is getting made fun of for clothes. I don't see how that makes anything different. You will get made of for what you wear anywhere. And, it just gives the bullies other resons to make fun of people. Doesn't really change anything.

Also, I see that many stores and clothing outlets, have major sales and make major profit around school time. So, if everyone had to wear uniforms, POOF goes those sale times and the money along with it.

Just a mindless teenagers opinion on that.

Wow, talk about bumping a dead topic. :P

Anyway, no one at my school ever follows the dress code. We have girls with their shirts half-way up looking like prostitutes for most of the day and no one says anything about it. We're not allowed to wear flipflops, mini-mini skirts, half shirts or spaghetti straps but everyone wears them anyway.

Hell, I wore a shirt with guns on it (against the rules) to school since 7th grade and no one said anything about it. I even sat through a D.A.R.E. class and the officer said nothing. XD

Sounds like a pretty good policy to me.

All schools in England all have a uniform, I personally would be very surprised if i came upon one that the students could wear what they wanted.

While i hate MY uniform (blazer, shirt type shirt, sensible shoes, sensible belt buckles, no make-up, tie done properly, shirt tucked in, no extreme hair styles or jewlery), that is mostly because it makes me look like a boy with longish hair, for a boy anyway.

But i think that if we diddnt have uniform over here, i would complain and ASK for a uniform, for the simple fact that i usually dont like what i have and i make it a kind of hobby to rule against authority that i do not like.

Yes, anyway, uniforms are equalisers, and everyone has the right to be equal and not be singled out (even though i dont wear the blazer, i wear the jumper, which NO-ONE else wears, i like to be different than other people) and picked on because of it.

If we had no uniform, then the bullies would most ceartainly find their next prey to pick on. The person with the "out of date" clothes, "out of fashion" or ones that do not "show off their figure" (providing they are female of coarse)

And, mostly, we must not forget that what most other girls bully other girls about, is what they look like, my uniform hides any weird abnormalities or small breasts or big, everyone just looks like a boy (that is why i choose not to wear the padded shoulderd blazers and the jumper) and normal clothes, unless they are very baggy, will not hide anything like that.

Even when we have a non uniform day at our school (VERY rare!!) it is called a Dress Down Day, because all we are allowed to come in is jeans/sensible pants, and a t-shirt.

anyway, to conclude, i believe that uniforms are equalisers, and everyone has the right to be the same and not singled out because they are different.

Plus.
I'm from the young generation, and i dont have any impulse to go out and dress like a slut, maybe its just me, but I prefer to cover my curves instead of flash them.

I think i'm rarther backward, i would rarther dress like a victorian than a modern-day-girl.

I'm 13 now, and my mum would have NEVER dressed me in inapropriate clothes.

Here in England, there are a lot of, well, rarther large people going round in hipster pants and boob-tubes.

and i just want to say "EEWW!" its disgusting! dont their mother tell them that fat is hanging down from their trousers?!

anyway back on topic, i would definetly prefer a "sailor fuku"to our blazers and ties! all that i want is a skirt not too short!

I have been wearing a school uniform from Kindergarten up until now (I'm going to be a Senior soon!) and I am going to MISS my uniform when I go to college. Honestly I would miss it, mainly because with my uniform I don't have to worry about what to wear everyday. I agree that uniforms or dress codes are necessary for all the reasons everyone has already stated. Although I would like a sailor fuku as some people have mentioned. =D. There was actually a Korean exchange student at my school this year and she had the coolest uniforms a summer uniform and a winter uniform and it was colorful! :D
