Cybersix

Post by peachvampiress » Thu Aug 11, 2005 10:12 pm

Is anyone else here a fan of Cybersix (either the show or original comic)? For those who've never seen it, it's a show about a woman who was created by an evil scientist, Von Reichter. She ran away to a city and disguises herself as a male literature teacher during the day. She's dependant on sustanance, a liquid that all of Von Reichter's creations need to survive. So at night he hunts out his creations, kills them, and drinks the sustanance that they leave behind. She falls in love with a fellow teacher, Lucas, who is friends with her male alter ego, Adrain.

I've watched it since it first premiered on Teletoon back in 1999. I thought it was anime at first and got hooked on it. I kind of wish they made more than thirteen episodes though. Especially since it was rerun to death. They aired it everyday for about two years, and since it's only 13 episodes, people got bored with it. Teletoon just brought it back again and I've been recording all the episodes.

FOX aired it briefly on Saturday morning a few years ago, but skipped an episode and didn't air the last two. They were hacked to bits. Scenes cut, music changed, the kickass intro shortened into crap, dialogue changed and censored (because a show with a rating of C8 needs to be censored ¬_¬). Basically, think of what DIC did to Sailormoon.

I also came across an English fan translated version of the first issue of the comic book (the original comic is from Argentia and is only available in Spainish, Italian, and French). It's much deeper, darker, and violent (not to mention sexual >_>) than the show. It also explains Cybersix's background more. From what little I've seen, I really like the comic, probably more than the show. Ebay.ca has a lot of the comics, but I've never seen the origianl Spainsh versions, and it I'm going to buy them in a foreign language, I want them in there original language.

If you get the chance to watch it, than do it. It's a good story with amazing animation (each episode took one million dollars to make).

Discuss everyone! *cracks whip* (Oh, and the reason this is in Off topic instead of other anime/manga is because I don't consider it anime. It was created in Canada and made in English first. And the comic book is NOT manga. It's from Argentia, stop calling it manga people >_>)

Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Are you interested then Tiff ~_^

Ah, don't worry, hundreds have made that mistake. When Cybersix first aired on Teletoon (Canada's equivalent to Cartoon Network) they got a couple of angry letters from parents who asked them to change the name since their kids kept pronouncing it Cybersex (cause, you know, it's easier to change the name of a show and erase the word from all the scenes in said show than it is to teach kids to speak clearer).

I remeber seeing commericals for it on Fox, but I never got the chance to see it. I do hear about alot though, and I'm a bit interested in seeing it. Does it have a complete ending?

BTW- In'st it an anime?
(Not like there's a difference to me, animation is animation)

It has an ending. Many say it's a cliffhanger, but I don't think it's really hard to figure out what happened (I won't give it away).

Whether or not it's anime is debatable. It isn't anime in the sense that it's originally from Japan and dubbed into English. It was made in Canada. They got voices actors from Vancouver (who have also done voices for dubbed anime) and the music was composed in Quebec. They then sent it to Japan to be animated. Apparently it was given an animeish look to make it look unique. The characters don't really look animeish though. They all look like they did in the oringal Spanish comic. It's like that show Totally Spies. They both look like anime, but they're not from Japan. And unlike Totally Spies, Cybersix doesn't have the visual anime gags like face faults and sweat drops. It also doesn't suck :P

I meant to give this link before but the site was down, but now it's back up *yay*

Probably the only good Cybersix site that's still up

The guy who wrote this site is from Quebec, so the English isn't perfect. What makes this site kickass is the fact that he has really detailed synopsises of the comics. Just reading his summaries are what got me hooked on them, even though I had never read a single issue. The links in the multimedia section work to, although he doesn't have the ultra bitchin' opening sequence for some reason (my favorite video on the site is the "Clothing Scene". The best scene in the entire show).

Unfortunately the character section is lacking a bit and missing some people. But it is still a good site if you're interested.
