"After all these years, you know it's not about control. It's about trying to do everything I can. And for you, it's about setting an example. Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1

The Associated Press is saying a group related to Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack.

I heard about it when I was getting ready to go to work this morning.

That group posted it on their web site, but they pulled it off later and they had falsely claimed responsibility for other attacks.

Now, as tragic as this was, consider this: In 2001, the major terrorist attack in New York killed around 2600 and injured about 6300. In 2003, the major terrorist attack in Madrid killed 191 and injured 1800. Today in 2005, the terrorism in London has killed 37 and injured 700. I think we are winning against these barbarians. I think if we keep up our agression their attacks will only grow more ineffective.

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I didn't bother to read the article. I saw it on the news this morning. It's scary, really scary. They were also talking about how much these imfluence these terrorist groups have on people, like how people come to truly believe their ideas and go out and do their own terrorist attacks.

my boyfriend called me this afternoon and told me about it. I don't really watch the news much so I tend to not really know whether things are getting better or worse. But I honestly never imagined that this would happen over there. I guess I shouldn't really be so surprised. This world just keeps getting scarier.

my heart goes out to the families over there.

That's like saying, "Please stop all violence. Thanks."

Things like this can't just be...stopped. They are always going to exist, in some shape or form. You might as well ask for world peace if you're going to ask that all terrorism stop.

It's a sad happening in London, but...I'm not really broken up about it. I wish them the best of luck and hope, but I'm not going to pretend it scares the beejezus out of me, or that i'm terribly upset.

I refuse to let this sort of thing hinder my life...it happened to us, it happened in Spain, and now it's happened in London. I just hope that, at least, we find a way to lessen the terrorist attacks.

But stopping them completely? Not going to happen.

Ditto to what Tiff said.

And I should add that, even though it's closer to me (cause I'm near Paris after all) , while I do have sympathy for the families and everyone who died or that was hurt... I'm not going to look for every news article about it.

I'm not going to talk everyday about it.

I'm not going to WATCH all news about it.

It's depressing and sad already, so, well, I know about it, I'm a little sad about it, but that's it. It's not cause I don't care: I don't think I know of anyone in London that's close enough to me to even cry about it. And I can't do anything.

All I can say is what I just typed.

Amen to Tiffu's and Akarui's comments.

this stuff has been happening for centuries, it's not going to stop because of a president that has a grudge on the middle east, or so I think. our chances of stopping this, is slim to none. there will always be people who think this way... everywhere in the world. this group, right now, is the major one.

*nods* Exactly. I watched one news report online, and that was it. That's all I needed. I refuse to let things like this rule my life, even just a little bit. I was the same way about 9/11, and when we first started going to war afterwards.

They are just trying to make us afraid of them. If everyone shows that we are strong and wont let things like this weaken us, they wont win.

Is it strange for me to be surprised this made so much news internationally? As Em said, we're strangely used to news of bombings, but I don't remember if Omagh made quite as many headlines and am forced to wonder if G8 or Al Qaeda fever is the reason behind the publicity.
Rosencrantz: Do you think death could be a boat?
Guildenstern: No; Death is not, it isn’t. Death is the ultimate negative; not being. You can’t not be on a boat.
Rosencrantz: I’ve frequently not been on boats.
Guildenstern: No; what you’ve been, is not on boats.

I don't think that it's so much G8 or Al Qaeda fever as that it was an attack on a major world city. London is a name that practically everybody knows. If LA, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, or any other major world city were attacked it would make just as much news. It helps that there are rumors of Al Qaeda being involved, sure, but I don't think that it would be much less if there weren't.
