Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Post by peachvampiress » Tue Jul 05, 2005 7:16 pm

So is anyone else looking forward to this movie? I've been wanting to see it since I first heard about it a little under a year ago. I'm a big Tim Burton fan and can't wait to see it, but in all honesty I don't think it'll be a "OMFG that's the best frickin' movie I've ever seen LOL!!!!1111" movie, but rather a "That was pretty good" movie.

I love the costume Johnny Depp wears as Willie Wonka. I want that jacket and cane *_*

As for merchandise, I haven't seen a lot of things that I'd get. I saw a few figures of Willie Wonka that had a lot of detail, but they cost an arm, a leg, and a human corpse T_T

I am really looking forward to this movie as well. I loved the original as well as the book, and I also like Tim Burton's work as well, so this is really exciting to me. Johnny Depp seems to play the role really well, and I agree his costume looks good too. That man seems to play whatever role he is given very well, big props for that. This is all seeming to be a great movie so far, I can't wait! ^_^

Yes! The book was. . . OK. But the first movie is a classic of cinema. I remember one time waking up in physics class to a discussion of the sado-masochistic themes in the various demises of the four non-Charlie kids. I also love the way Gene Wilder yells at Jack Albertson at the end in faux Latin. But for the new one, well, Johnny Depp is a good actor, if a bit of an oddball, but that can only help in playing the Wonka part.

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I adored the first movie...so i'm hoping this one will be good. It is definitely darker and more...strange. But then again, I've heard the book's that way, too (I've never read it). I LOVE the way Johnny Depp looks as Wonka (I'm with you on the outfit, Peach *_*), and while I really don't care for Johnny in anything except Pirates of the Caribbean, I'm hoping he'll be good in this one.

www.yahoo.com has some clips from the movie available on its page. They kept freezing up on me, but they were pretty funny, especially the one where Violet glomps onto Wonka:

*GLOMP* "I'm Violet Beauregarde"
"...........I don't care"

Oh, and it looks like the Oompa Loompa's sing too. :D

As a fan of the book and the first movie, I'll have to see whether Depp can fill Gene Wilder's shoes.

And as for Depp's look in the movie, he looks like Marilyn Manson (no surprise, since Manson is a big fan of the book and movie).
"After all these years, you know it's not about control. It's about trying to do everything I can. And for you, it's about setting an example. Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1

Don't know if its true, but I heard a rumour that Gene Wilder has a small cameo in the film.

Two confirmed cameos I read include Tim Burton's son and a really quick (as in blink and you'll miss it) cameo from Jack Skellington (who also has a cameo in Tim Burton's other film Corpse Bride).

...

Am I the only one who was seriously disturbed by the original movie?

x_X;

I mean, let's everyone's just run around singing and dancing and being merry... WHILE EVERYBODY IS DYING

lol. Seriously, it scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. Gene Wilder's Wonka screamed pedophile to me, and the whole concept of it being a happy smiley acid-trip place with death at every turn. I still consider it one of most psychologically freaky movies to this day.

I'm not sure about the book, but aren't the kids fine in the movie? I thought Wonka told Charlie that they were all fine and would go back being the same people they were (meaning they hadn't learned anything).

In the first movie
Wonka did assure Charlie that the others would be restored "maybe a bit wiser." Of course, he may have been lying. :)
In the book
when the three of them are in the Great Glass Elevator they fly over and see the others leaving, alive but affected by the various factory machines they've fallen into. OTOH he does fulfill his promise and give them their lifetime supplies of chocolate, which the movie implies he didn't.
And still, even its true and they really ARE fine at the end, how would Charlie and the parents etc. know that at the time that they are disappearing into the machines? It just seemed like everyone was really creepily happy and sing-song while the kids are seemingly getting killed. That's pretty messed up stuff for a so-called kids movie. :P Then again, there's some really gruesome stuff in fairy tales and the like, so I guess its not TOO traumatizing...
I really want to see this movie. I loved the original Willy Wonka and even though I've never read the book, I'm all for remakes that try to follow the book versions more accurately. I've seen the trailer for this movie and it looks really good. Sadly, I'll probably have to wait until it's released on DVD before I can. My parents are those kinds of people who hate remakes and think this movie is going to destroy the original classic.

I'm looking forward to this movie too, hoping it'll be better than Bewitched (not a bad movie, just dragged on a bit).

I really like Wonka's whole attitude towards the kids.

Um...what? Wonka sent the parents off to the appropriate rooms. And (at least in the movie) some of the parents wanted out.

Sylphiel: I wouldn't necessarily say that everybody was sing-song happy as the kids were disappearing. The parents freaked out and panicked when they realized something had happened to their child. And I wouldn't call any of the OompaLoompa's songs happy. They were grim lessons.

HA HA HA!!! PH34R the occasionally sexy Danny Elfman!!! (Seriously, you type his name in a seach engine and it's near impossible to find a good pic of him.)

Kind of weird to know, but a friend of mine was supposedly going to audition for this movie and his agent messed up the dates and he missed it. I'm not quite sure what part he could have gotten since he's my age and most of the actors are either adults or little kids 0__o
