Micheal Jackson child molestation trial
I'm surprised that no one posted this topic! I really don't think I need to do any explaining on this highly publicized case. But here's some of the latest articles on the case:
http://entertainment.sympatico.msn.ca/t ... 97363.armx
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8171418/
Any ideas as to what the verdict may be? I'm really hoping that they find Micheal Jackson guilty, but I think there's a good chance they may find him innocent despite the overwhelming evidence. I say this because of the fans and protestors. If the jury finds him guilty, then there's no doubt that they would raise a big stink about it.
What are your thoughts on the case?

Don't really care. the guys crazy, and probably should be isolated from the rest of the world. IMO.
Verdict: dunno. He just pulls a bunch of stupid crap during the trial too... *man, that was funny what comedy shows did about THAT!* But either way- I won't be effected. except for the Daily show reactions.

Well while I don't really care about it, the only thing I have to say is that, if he's guilty, I just hope he doesn't get less of a punishment just because he has fans and is one of the most famous human beings on the planet.
Conversation with an "obsessed" fan (my sister) :
- Hey, what happens if he's found guilty ?
- He's not.
- Yeah you think that but what happens if he's found to be guilty ?
- I'm telling you, that's impossible.
Talk about blind people.

I can say one thing about this--he is rich, so whether he really did anything or not, he's likely to get off. I don't mean to sound biased about it, but that is the way it usually turns out.
In relation to this, a friend of mine a while back said Jackson really hadn't done anything, because the first boy whose parents complained about it actually said that nothing had happened. Later the same boy came out and said Jackson molested him, after saying nothing had happened, that Jackson had slept on the floor the entire time and he had the bed.
So I don't know what really happened, but this is what I think about it.

Re: Micheal Jackson child molestation trial
Overwhelming evidence? huh? Are we watching the same trial? From what I've seen, there hasn't been overwhelming evidence, in fact, there's been nothing but a lack of evidence. The child, his brother, and his mother, all seem to be very shady people. The prosecution's case has been laughable at times, and the defense seems to have a much stronger case.RoastedTwinkies wrote: Any ideas as to what the verdict may be? Remember, to get a guilty verdict they have to decide he is guilty WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT. If there is reasonable doubt, then the jury is supposed to give a not guilty verdict. From what I've seen of this case, there is so much reasonable doubt that I can't see them coming back with a guilty verdict on the molestation charges. On the supplying alcohol to a minor charge...That's something different. I'm not sure what the verdict on that will be.

Honestly, I could give two craps about this case. Everyone knows, judged guilty or not guilty, he'll moom walking out of court with another little boy duct taped to his back.

I used to think he was guilty, but Tiff's argument in the other Michael Jackson thread made me start to think other wise. And when I started watching the re-enacted trails on MuchMoreMusic (Canada's equivenlent to VH1) I started to doubt the family even more. Although, in all honestly the entire trial is one big gong show. All Jackson's lawyer with the idiotic white hair can do is say "Objection" everytime someone says two words and the prosecution's witnesses are hardly reliable. Basically they've called a bunch of ex-employees who saw this and that but did nothing at the time. And the boy's mother, "Shady" is an understatement. If the actress re-enacting her was accurate, then she's a freaking wingnut. She alone makes me think that Jackson is innocent. If her son was really molested, I don't think she'd be acting the way she did.

There is also the fact that the mother has tried to sue celebrites before for shit, and got a settlement in all of them. Jim Carrey and Jay Leno are two of them, I believe. We were talking about it in my Criminal Justice class before the end of last semester. My teacher, who is an attorney and used to work for the District Attorney in my area, said this trial would actually have been able to be completed in a month or less if there wasn't so much media attention given to it. And Bob-san is right, in order to win a case, you have to have good solid evidence that proves beyond a reasonable doubt whether the suspect is guilty or not. That is why I said whether he actually did anything won't matter, because this entire trial has been a freak show to begin with.

Lemme do a recap of some of the evidence against Jackson. Because of this evidence, I'm convinced that he is a pedophile.AnimeGuru0 wrote:Overwhelming evidence? huh? Are we watching the same trial? ~fingerprints of both Jackson and the victim were found on pornographic magazines. I highly doubt that the child was just snooping around, although that is an arguement that the defence could make.
~Jackson said directly on TV that he thinks it's okay to sleep with children, that sharing your bed with a child is the most loving thing a person could do for their kids. Is there not something wrong with this picture? It's certainly not okay to sleep with your children, especially with someone else's children. That is the classic defence of a pedophile; they don't believe that what they are doing is wrong. By the time a child is about 5 or 6 years old, it is no longer appropriate for an adult to share a bed with children. It's not normal and it's not healthy.
EDIT: Also, just because the accusers may have sued other celebrities doesn't mean that child molestation didn't happen. I don't believe that proves Jackson's innocence.

Jackson caught the kids looking at porn. Grabbed the magazines and scolded them and then hid the magazines. Reasonable doubt.RoastedTwinkies wrote:Lemme do a recap of some of the evidence against Jackson. Because of this evidence, I'm convinced that he is a pedophile.

This trial isn't about Jackson being a freak. I think we're all in agreement that he is WEIRD. That doesn't mean he's a pedophile. If he really was a pedophile, do you think he'd be so open about the fact that he slept in the same bed as kids? If anything, it looks as if he thinks he's still 10 as well. Just because someone is WEIRD doesn't mean that they're CRIMINALS. Again, resonable doubt.~Jackson said directly on TV that he thinks it's okay to sleep with children, that sharing your bed with a child is the most loving thing a person could do for their kids. No, it doesn't prove Jackson's innocence, but it places REASONABLE DOUBT as to the pure intentions of the accuser. It paints them to be money hungry at celebrities expenses, which places MORE reasonable doubt as to whether Jackson actually did this. It's all about reasonable doubt, and there's so much of this floating around this case, I don't see how the defense even has a case.EDIT: Also, just because the accusers may have sued other celebrities doesn't mean that child molestation didn't happen. I don't believe that proves Jackson's innocence.

When I was younger, I'd get scared and sleep with my parents. That seems normal as young kids, but if it's with another adult, I'm kinda scared/wierded out. But, I think it's a mental thing Jackson has... that he still thinks he's a LOT younger than he actually is.

Re: Micheal Jackson child molestation trial
Bob hit it right on the head. Sleeping with a child does notm ake you a pedophile. Does it make you strange? Sure, in some peoples' opinions. Other people think there's nothing wrong with it. I know adults who sleep with their children. Has it been proven to be psychologically damaging? In some cases, yes. But that doesn't equate being a pedophile.AnimeGuru0 wrote:This trial isn't about Jackson being a freak. I think we're all in agreement that he is WEIRD. That doesn't mean he's a pedophile. I slept with my mother until I was 8. I was terrified to be alone. My mother had a choice..listen to her child crying and sobbing all night, alone and scared, or sleep with me until I fell asleep, and give me the comfort of knowing she wouldn't leave me scared and alone. On my 8th birthday, I told her "I'm going to be a big girl and sleep alone." and I did. Becuase I knew that if I really DID need her, she'd come. I'm in no way psychologically damaged from that. I'm a healthy 22 year old woman who can and will sleep alone.
You want to tell me my mother is a pedophile? I fucking dare you.

My friend was saying that if Michael does go to jail he'll be going to the same prison with Charles Manson. The reason for putting him in a maximum security prison is because he has to be isolated since he wouldn't last in a normal prison with cellmates and what not. Either way, going to jail will probably mess him up even more whether or not he's alone or with another person.

I believe that there is far too much reasonable doubt in the case against Jackson to get a conviction, and I do not think that he will be found guilty on the molestation charges. The giving alcohol to minors charge is something I haven't heard much of, since the media focuses on the molestation charges so much, so I cannot say anything certain about that.
For about a year when I was six, I slept in the same bed as my mother as I was going through a phase where I couldn't even stand in a room with the lights off for a few minutes without freaking out. When I was about ten, I slept with both of my parents in the back of our van when we were homeless. An adult sleeping in the same bed with a child does not automatically mean that molestation took place, no matter how odd the circumstances may seem on the outside.
The man certainly is strange, but if oddity alone is enough to convict someone in this country, I am in deep shit.

I also don't think the odds are in favor of conviction, though stranger verdicts have been rendered. That being said, I do think he is factually guilty, if not legally guilty. Reasonable doubt is not my standard for guilt, and I think any parent who lets their child near him is playing with fire. Heck, *I* wouldn't want to be left alone with him.

Well, he'd be put in a cell for his safety, is what it would be about. Surveys and studies have been done in prisons that prove that the regular prison population of drug dealers, theives, murderers, and whatnot cannot stand anyone who does something to a child, including but not limited to molestation. There is a case happening in Louisiana right now about some people who were molesting kids (these are not celebrites, either). As they were in jail awaiting trial, the woman of the two accused was assaulted physically by the other female inmates in the Parish prison where she was being kept and had to be moved to another prison where she could have a cell to herself. So if Jackson got a cell to himself, I don't imagine that it would be so much because he is a celebrity as much as it would be because of what the general prison population would do to him if he were placed in a state or federal prison.peachvampiress wrote:My friend was saying that if Michael does go to jail he'll be going to the same prison with Charles Manson. I know that it's for his saftey. What I was saying is that either option can't be good for him. If he's put in a cell with someone else his cellmate will either kill him or make him his bitch, but if he's put in isolation it'll probably mess him up even more. Isolation tends to make normal people go crazy, and it'll probably make a weirdo like Michael even worse.
