In a battle of wits, who would win?

Anything and everything (outside of the stuff on the above forums) can be discussed here.

By the way Distant Memory, The Batman is from DC Comics, not Marvel Comics.
"Oh yeah. Someone is definitely tired of breathing." ("The Main Man", Part 1)

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Err... it depends. For now I'd say Mercury, but is it Super Sailor Mercury, LV. 1 Sailor Mercury, or LV. 2 Sailor Mercury?

Well, it'd depend on the exact setup of the contest. For some reason, when you say "battle of wits," I see Ami sitting there saying, "Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows." And if they were actually battling with lives on the line, in a setting without actual defined rules, I think Batman takes it. But in a strict game, like if they sat down to play chess or reversi, something where it's just sheer computing power, then Sailormercury has the edge.

I woud think that it all depends on what kind of intelligence we're talking about. Again, Batman has a lot of worldly knowledge that Mercury does not seem to possess. She's still quite young and very naive about the world, and her intelligence seems to lie in mathematics and science, and games that involve logic and strategy. Batman has had to match wits with psychopaths like the Riddler, and thus probably has enough intelligence and experience to deal with logic problems and strategy games. Overall, I really see this going to Batman, just because of the sheer amount of wordly knowledge and experience.

A lot of good the force did for those Alderaanians :)
Ya they should have used the shworts (spaceballs the movie). It goes against every thing I believe in but I am going to have to say Batman (sorry Ami) because every thing Sailor Mercury can throw at The Bat he could easily counter. :D That was the schwartz--it's yiddish for "black" (see also Blazing Saddles), but I think it was picked just because it sounds like "force" and also because it's just a funny word.

True, but this isn't a fight we're talking about. I still say that braino-a-braino, Ami has a good shot. A lot of people have said, truthfully enough, that Batman has more life experience, wheras Ami has just book-learning. But the knowledge in books is there for a reason.

But really, it's difficult to get a firm mental grip on the question, since the two of them are really from different universes. Batman deals with genuinely criminally insane people, with almost no friends, certainly no equals or leaders (I'm not counting Justice League), for his own purpose, with nothing but his own hands and mind (this last is a major reason I like him a lot more than Superman or Spider-Man). Sailor Mercury fights aliens, sometimes ones that are downright wacky, as part of a team, using elemental water powers. It's kind of an apples-to-oranges thing.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I think age, too, can play a role in who comes out the victor here. Not to knock Ami or anything, but despite her perspicacity and reasoning capabilities, she is still a 14 - 16 year old, and can act like it when she's around friends or other highschool situations. The show or comic does not really give us much insight into how she would behave with someone who is close to her in mental capacity - excluding Berthier and Viluy, who are treated as enemies, rather than friendly adversaries, as I am assuming for this Batman v Mercury "battle".

The operative word there being "can." One of the complexities of Ami's character is that at some level she wants to live the common life of a teenager, and has to fight her genius girl reputation to do so. On other levels she recognizes her gift and wants to live up to the potentials it provides. There are people at that age with both the desire and the capacity to interact with the world as a fully functioning individual. To some, age is just a number. But this is a form of iconoclasm, so it takes a strong will. It would have been possible to write Ami's character as such, and would have given her greater capacity in the sort of contest we're discussing here. Instead, she is written as more well-rounded, so perhaps the question should be not who would win if they were pitted against each other, but who has the greater arsenal for battle in the theoretical arena.

All true, but Ami-chan doesn't have acess to one of the greatest crime labs around... The Batcave.

....Batman. Duh.
since they're both brilliant strategists
What the heck has Ami done/said that could be considered "brilliant strategy"? I certainly can't think of anything.

And as far as battle goes, what's she going to do? Bubble him to death?

I would say Ami. First she could use her Shabon Spray, then simply use Shine Aqua Illusion and freeze him.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot it was a battle of wits. -_- In that case, I would say Batman would win.

But Mercury, unlike Vizzini, is actually smart. She'd realise that there'd be the chance that both goblets were poisoned. Of course, Batman could fool her and poison neither one...

Now onto the bit where Batman, the Hulk and some rogue Spaniard with superb sword skills take on sixty men armed with Uzis.

Anyway, otherwise, Batman would definitely better her. No two ways about it.
