Because no one has brought it to the attentions of the courts in those respective states to have it taken off the books. The court system in the United States is, unfortunately, reactive. They can't do anything until someone brings it up in a case. And if this case goes to the Supreme Court like they're planning, that may just set the precedent to have it taken down, assuming they win.

That whole story bugged me, K I can understand being upset losing a spouse. I can understand being upset about the adultery and the child that resulted from it. But suing for loss of affections? WTH? And if she didnt cheat and leave him what then? There are many causes for lack of affection and for such an archaic law to still be around is crazy. I did breathe a sigh of relief to see Fla and SC isnt on the list of the states that still have it cause ugh these states have enough problems.

Yeah..it's like those obscure old laws...you know, the ones that say things like: "You can't wear a hat in front of a ladies clothing store past 5:00 on a Thursday."Laws like those usually aren't enforced ^^;

But I have to wonder if this one will be. I mean, someone was stupid enough to bring forth a lawsuit using it as a basis.

I, for one, am hoping it will be. I find it disturbing enough that a law like that is still in place anywhere, let alone Mississippi. But laws only come into existence as a society needs them, and when the society evolves beyond the need for the law, it becomes obscure, and it will either be repealed or ignored. It's my belief that this guy will lose the case because of that. Women are no longer considered property in the United States, therefore his only grounds for suing is because she broke his heart and he wants to make her and her new husband hurt in some way. It's possible that the Justices will see it that way and overturn the verdict.

No respect for the dead

You know when people have to start protesting the war at fallen soliders funerals its upsetting to me enough. But their whole arguement makes me fear for humanities future even more. How in the hell is people supposedly condoning Homosexuality killing soilders? And how come these idiots arent being arrested? In normal protests people get taken in all the time but because their a church their allowed to rub salt in the wounds of grieving families of brave soliders who gave their lives to protect their cushy asses?

Ugh Now I wish I had gone out tonight instead of reading the news...

It's the Westboro Baptist Church (and I use the word church loosely because the members are pretty much just the Phelps family). There's no point in trying to understand how their thinking works. I'm just glad someone successfully sued them.

you know I really try not to be one of those people who says halloween costumes are getting too sexy for little kids, but last night I saw a girl about 10 dressed as Daisy Duke and it was just wrong.

Her shorts hardly covered anything up and she had the really skimpy top too and a pair of really shiny stockings on.

I can almost justify that, since Daisy Duke is a legitimate character...but still. Wow.

What really gets me are the lil ho and lil pimp costumes i've seen that you can actually BUY. Who in their right mind dresses their child up as a pimp or a ho?!

And do parents not get that parading their little girls around in skanky dresses/shorts is an invitation to pedophilia? ESPECIALLY when the girls are sent out alone to trick or treat without adult supervision?

Wake up, parents.

I cant understand any parent who would think their kid would look adorable as that and I grew up in a not so nice neighboorhood. Maybe its why I moved out cause I can almost see that mentality there. But what kind of legitimate shops would sell those kinds of costumes to kids? Ugh

I remember my most risky costume was a witch outfit with a long black dress. My others consisted of barbie, home made die (dice) and clown I just dont get what ever happened to plain old fun costumes for kids anymore.

Witnessed that all day yesterday. Fourtunately, I didn't help out at the elementary, and from what my friend says, it was bad. Kindergardners in sexy costumes 5x too big for them.

And parents taking pictures of them, saying how cute they where...

Bleh...

If it's a Chick tract, wait awhile and see if it goes out of print, then put it on ebay. I've heard those sell for a nice little bit of money.
