American Dad

Post by DuoTheShinigami02 » Mon Feb 07, 2005 12:04 am

I've watch it right after the Super Bowl, and from what I've seen, it may be promising.

I also like the way they skewed President Dubya with his conversation with God!

My thoughts:

The dog: VERY sick-looking!

The purse-snatching scene: Too bad that the son (forgot his name) was out of shape

The alien: Wonder if the alien slime gag will continue on? That, and gotta love his obsession with food.

The Smith family: Your typical right-wing family (with the exception of the daughter)

That's all I can think of, for now...

Did I tell you that it's from the maker of Family Guy?
"After all these years, you know it's not about control. It's about trying to do everything I can. And for you, it's about setting an example. Everyone looks up to you. They listen to you. If you tell them to fight, they'll fight. But they need to be inspired, and let's face it, 'Superman'...the last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead." -- Batman, to Superman, Infinite Crisis, issue 1

I've been awaiting this show for a long time now and I can proudly say I am not disappointed one bit. I loved every second of it. It's got a good mix of characters and everything flows well between them. Like you said, this has a lot of promise and had an awesome start.

For those of you who missed the showing of the pilot, Adult Swim is airing it next Sunday at 11:30.

I was definitely looking forward to the show. I <3 Family Guy, after all. However, while I thought it was good, it really just seems like a rehashing. There's nothing new about it. IMO, it just tries to do all the things that Family Guy does. But it's not as good at it. I'll probably watch a few more episodes at least, just because I try not to judge shows that I somewhat-like with one episode.

Yeah. Exactly.

Derek and I turned it off about 10 minutes into it. It was irritating, IMO. I think they shoul dhave just left it at Family Guy, and focused on getting the new eps of that out.

I'm in agreement with Tiff and ParaKiss. As with the Simpsons and Family Guy, the father is the only funny character on the show; the only scene I actually laughed at was the Iraq Ikea one. Everything else reminded me too much about Family Guy, but with a political twist. I won't be watching the rest of the series.

I thought it was funny as hell. True, it's very similar to Family Guy, but it's a good show to watch until the new episodes of Family Guy come out in May.

I'm in agreement with Kisu.

This show was seriously.....Family Guy. There was nothing new or original about it. Same jokes. Same Animation. Same characters. Same music. Same....everything. I mean, it was funny and I enjoyed it, but they really should have just saved all this for Family Guy.

For a little bit of background, here's what happened.

Family Guy got cancelled.
Seth McFarlene (creator of Family Guy and American Dad), knows Family Guy was a great show, but Fox is freaking lame and wont pick the series back up, so he tries again and makes the pilot for American Dad.
American Dad enters production.
Family Guy DVDs sell through the roof, it does amazingly well on Cartoon Network.
Fox reconsiders picking Family Guy back up.
Seth McFarlene has a doozy on his hand. With Family Guy coming back, there's no need for his Family Guy clone, American Dad. However, American Dad has already had lots of money put into it.

Thus, that's why we are now going to have 2 identical shows. Yeah, it's lame.......but I guess that's just the way the world works. I'd be surprised if both shows last 2 seasons together, one or the other will probably get dropped, and I'm pretty sure it wont be Family Guy.

This is typical Fox.

They take a show that is promising (Futurama [I'll have to admit that it's a little bit funnier than some of the later episodes of the Simpsons], Family Guy, and Firefly) and then bury it to make room for these UN-reality shows (American Idle, The Swan, The Simple Life [That's enough, Paris and Nicole!]).

I've found this article about this:

It was funny, but it could've been better. And the German fish and alien have to go. They're no Brian and Stewie.

I only got to see the clip that they showed durring the Super Bowl (the nacho chip thing) and it looked pretty funny. However, I must agree with Tiff and Parakiss, it looks like a cheap rip off of his old show Family Guy. *thinks fondly of Family Guy*

It kinda irritates me that he has decided to go with some pre-ordained recipe for success. Especially since I've seen one of his other pieces of work, a cartoon cartoon one time special thing that's really funny, and while it has simmularities to FG (Stupid Guy, Smart Ass dog) it was still original (i.e. the scared people-phobic Scottsman).

See, I turned it off after a few lines from the alien. And the german fish is just stupid.

Funny thing is that if I remember correctly, that What a Cartoon Show segment was actually named Family Guy as well, but I would have to find who has the Family Guy bootlegs to see if I remember correctly or not. Someone on my dorm floor had bootleg DVDs before the offical DVDs were announced and that short was on one of them as an extra type thingy.

From what I've read from you guys, American Dad may not last five episodes, but we'll have to wait and see...

Unless the Fox screwjob comes into play...

It was "Larry and Steve," the first real incarnation of the friendship between a man and his dog in Seth McFarlane's point of view.
