Anybody hear of Takeshi's Castle?
Also known to us as MXC. Has anyone ever seen it? (Either Takeshi's Castle or MXC) I've only seen MXC, and it's getting annoying.
I know the English people bought the rights to it, and translated it, but I don't really wanna listen to Takeshi talk with an English brogue...

I love MXC XD! My mother who got me addicted to the show. It's like a train-wreck : you can't take your eyes off of it. I've never seen the original japanese version, but the English adaptation is highly amusing dispite the fact that it's aimed towards men. I know that it's probably translated incorrectly but I still like it. I stopped watching after a while because they removed it from their 5&5:30 timeslot on spike TV, so I forget to watch it on Thursday. But when I do watch it I get a good laugh from it.

And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

Actually, I first saw the show in Japanese class three years ago!! Then I hadn't seen it again until August, when I was visiting my friend. She was watching MXC, and when I saw how badly dubbed the show was, I was like 'what the hell?' I like Takeshi's Castle, but I hate the english version. Though it's still fun to watch, it just really irks me how badly the show is dubbed.

I'm a big mXc fan too! I like how they give made-up personalities to the people, like Ken's gramma or Vic's none-too-amicable divorce and alcoholism. I think Guy le Douche would be a great cosplay to try out, since I could carry a microphone and ask suggestive questions to people. And of course, I love the idea of people falling on their heads to entertain me. I want to make an avatar of the tryout game "Board to Death."

Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

*giggles* I also like MXC. The best parts about it are the sex jokes and the top 10 most painful mess-ups (or whatever they're called). Before it got taken off the 5:00-5:30 timeslot, my dad and I used to watch this show religiously. Ah, good times... XD

I like MXC. I think it's hilarious.
I would like the show in the original Japanese format, just to see what it was actually like, since the dub is probably nowhere near it. But I love the jokes and stuff they put in, they make me go all hysterical.

The dub was nowhere close to the original. They made up their own dialogue and everything. They made up profiles for contestants with bullshit that they were from California or something when you can clearly see that they're Japanese.Lady of the Light wrote:I like MXC. I think it's hilarious.

I've seen Takeshi's Castle a few times... That guy from Red Dwarf (Craig Charles... I think... gah, terrible memory) does the voice over. I'm not that fond of the show, but his comments can be funny. So they show the english version in the US? That show is really old though, I think it aired around 10 years ago in Japan... according to my japanese teacher.

You're right, it's Lister. He's also a writer for the show (I guess the Red Dwarf actors have to occupy themselves somehow until the Red Dwarf Movie finally gets made ;_;).I've seen Takeshi's Castle a few times... That's Lister on mXc? As which guy?! Wow, as if the show couldn't get any cooler.
Anyway, smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Anyway. I just saw an add for this today...and realized that it's a show my dad watches regularly. I've seen pieces of it, but I guess I never paid that much attention to know what it was called (or that Craig Charles was the narrator). I'll definately watch more of it now.

Some imdb research reveals that the UK version is not the same as mXc. It's a more "straight" version. But it does have Craig Charles. Smeg.

The version over here isn't really dubbed, you can still here all the people speaking japanese in the show (I can sometimes understand bits of what they say) So, am I right in thinking the US verison is completely dubbed?

Yes, the American version is completely dubbed over. You can't hear any of the original Japanese. However, the english logos don't always cover the original Japanese logos completely, so I can read some of it.doodlebuguk wrote:Off Topic: Bring on the Red Dwarf Movie!

I haven't seen the show since last summer, so all the episodes are pretty much a blur now. But I saw that in pretty much every episode. Watch carefully, and you will find the Japanese logos and text.SailorSpace wrote: Oh I've never noticed that! Do you know which episodes that you can see part of the original logo in?

w00t for Takeshi's Castle!
We do get it down here, but it's on cable and has Aussie commentators doing it in the style of a regular sports show. There is, however, a man dressed in an East Asian opera get-up who does translations.
It's also interesting to see Takeshi Kitano doing something like this.
